Norristown 68, Chester 64
The Eagles put on an impressive offensive display in Wednesday night’s non-league game against the Clippers. Four players – Nicole Graham (17 points), India Grady (15 points), Sydney Morse (10 points) and Precious Tempson (10 points) – finished the game in double figures.
“I’m ecstatic,” coach Ashlee Harrison said. “We did a really good job of getting the ball up the court and getting into our offense and attacking the basket.
“The first half they left us play, and the girls did a really good job going to the basket and creating shots for themselves. We have struggled in some of our games this season, but I think the girls are finally finding their confidence, and it’s coming from all angles. It’s coming from bench players, it’s coming from starters. We’re getting a collective team effort. We’re improving. This was a huge win for us.”
The Eagles, who upped their record to 7-3, jumped out of the gate to a 10-2 lead and never looked back.
“We finally came out and played the way we’re supposed to play,” Harrison said. “The girls did well and played with composure.
“If we continue to play this way, we have a bright future.”
Chester’s Georria Clark scored a game-high 30 points.
Council Rock South 42, Souderton 31
Alex Wheatley turned in a brilliant 18-point, 25-rebound effort to lead the Golden Hawks. The junior center also was a force on defense, helping to limit Souderton’s big guns in the paint – Carley Kendall and Libby Wetzler – to just five points each.
“We played defense well,” coach Monica Stolic said. “We started out strong – we went up 9-0, and that helped set the tone.”
The Golden Hawks led 15-8 at the end of one quarter with Wheatley accounting for 12 of those points. It was a 22-16 game at halftime, and the Golden Hawks maintained that six-point edge heading into the final quarter when they outscored the Indians 10-5.
Gabby McAndrews led the Indians with nine points while Bianca Picard added seven points.
While the Indians fell to 3-4 overall, Rock South improved to 6-1. The Golden Hawks, who have not allowed more than 36 points in any game this season, will be tested on Friday night when they host Abington.
Saucon Valley 61, Quakertown 48
Lauren Starzecky turned in a superb 26-point effort, and Brittany Buaonanno Taylor added 17 points in a solid supporting role. Unfortunately for the Panthers (2-5), the rest of the team managed to score just five points between them.
Saucon Valley led 17-10 at the end of one quarter and took a 31-19 lead into halftime but outscored the Panthers by a scant 30-29 margin in the second half.
