Kelly Rogers excels both in the pool and in the classroom. The North Penn senior is not the fastest swimmer on the team, but through hard work and dedication, she was able to qualify for districts last year in swimming’s most grueling event – the 500 freestyle. “She does everything you ask of her,” coach Matt Weiser said. “She’s always the first one out on the pool deck, she’s always doing what she’s supposed to. She rarely misses any part of our swimming sets. If she does miss, she’s always quick to make it up when she can.”
As a sophomore, Rogers suffered a stress fracture in one of her ankles while running cross country. That spring, she tried track but didn’t last a week before getting a stress fracture in her other ankle. When she tried cross country again as a junior, both ankles fractured again. It has not prevented her from excelling in the pool. “She’s a great leader by example,” Weiser said. “She’s a little bit quiet and shy, but the kids always respect her and look at what she’s doing.”
A member of the National Honor Society, Rogers is ranked fourth out of 1,016 in her senior class. She earned perfect scores on both her math and writing SATs and a 720 in critical reading. She also is a National Merit Scholar Finalist. Her college list is a prestigious one and includes Penn, Penn State, Brown, Carnegie Melon, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Renseleer, Yale and Pitt. Her top choices are Hopkins and Yale. She plans to major in biomedical engineering.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of Jan. 2, 2011)
Charlie Anastasi is a senior captain of this year’s highly regarded Council Rock North basketball team. The 6-6 forward is the consummate team player, and although capable of putting up big numbers, Anastasi is far more concerned about the outcome than his own stats. “I can’t say in words how important he is to us both on and off the floor,” coach Derek Wright said. “In terms of what he does for us on the floor – he’s our best communicator. He knows our system the best, and he is probably the most respected amongst our players for what he does on the floor. He’s an excellent rebounder, and he’s a great passer for his size. He’s one of those guys – if teams aren’t focused on him, he can put up points, but he’s most concerned about wins and losses. That’s what he is all about.”
A natural leader off the court as well, Anastasi is the president of the Student Executive Committee, Rock North’s student governing body. He is a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society and writes for the school newspaper, The Indianite. He is a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.
In the classroom, Anastasi boasts a 4.0 grade points average and is ranked 11th in his senior class. He had a perfect score (800) in the English portion of the SAT test. “He’s a leader in the classroom as well,” said Wright, who had Anastasi in a class as both a freshman and senior. “He keeps you on your toes as a teacher.”
Anastasi plans to continue his basketball career at the collegiate level, but he has not settled on a college. “I might walk on to an Ivy League program or go to a smaller D-3 school and play,” he said. A member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Anastasi plans to major in business management.
