BASEBALL
Chestnut Hill junior John McGinley (Wissahickon) was one of 56 student-athletes who achieved a 3.5 GPA or better during the fall semester to earn a spot on the 2010 Fall Academic Honor Roll.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Khalif Wyatt (Norristown), starting for injured point guard Juan Fernandez, scored seven points and pulled down two rebounds in Temple’s 57-53 win over St. Louis on Sunday. In Wednesday night’s 70-51 win over Fordham, senior Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) scored 12 points.
Philadelphia University sophomore guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) earned honorable mention in last week’s CACC Awards. Connolly led PhilaU with 23 points in last week’s 73-70 overtime win over Assumption. He leads the Rams in scoring this year, averaging 16.5 points per game and shooting 42.5 percent from the field.
Connolly contributed 23 points, four assists and three rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 77-73 win at Felician on Saturday. Sophomore guard Eddie DiRugeris (Pennsbury) added 12 points in the win. In Thursday’s 72-70 win over Bridgeport, Connolly led all players with 21 points. Connolly is ranked fifth in the nation in free-throw percentage (95 percent).
Bryan Harrity (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points in Elizabethtown’s 97-59 win over Penn State Berks on Wednesday.
Pete Williams (Hatboro-Horsham) and Christian Santos (Cheltenham) each scored three points in Millersville’s 87-52 win over Lock Haven on Saturday.
Senior Chris McDevitt (Central Bucks East) contributed 12 points and five assists in Widener’s 75-74 Commonwealth Conference win at Lycoming on Saturday. In Monday’s 88-67 rout of Central Penn, McDevitt scored a career-high 22 points. He connected on five three-pointers for the third time this season and fourth in his career to tie a personal best.
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored 11 points in Bloomsburg’s 78-65 loss to Mercyhurst on Sunday. In Bloomsburg’s 75-58 loss to Slippery Rock on Saturday, Christmas scored a team-high 15 points. In Tuesday’s 67-65 overtime win over Cal, Christmas contributed five points. In Monday night’s 66-54 loss to IUP, Christmas scored a team-high 14 points.
Bruce Kennedy (Wissahickon) contributed nine points, eight rebounds and four steals in Cheyney’s 88-68 win over Lock Haven on Monday night.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Stacey Smalls (Cheltenham) will be among a five-member class to be inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame on Jan. 21 at the Palestra. Smalls, who played from 1999-2003, finished her four-year career with the Temple women’s team as the program’s sixth all-time leading scorer, amassing 1,258 points. She also connected on a still-standing school record 154 career three-pointers. She is the only Owl to score more than 1000 points and lead the team in assists in four straight seasons. Smalls dished out 359 assists, fifth on the TU all-time list, and made 187 steals, ninth all-time. As a junior in the 2001-02 season, she led the Owls to their first Atlantic 10 title and was named the tournament’s MVP. Smalls was a three-time first team All-Big 5 selection and a three-time second team all-Atlantic 10 Conference honoree. She also was a two-time A-10 all-Defensive team selection.
Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored 11 points and handed out a game-high five assists in Haverford’s 71-67 loss to Immaculata on Saturday. In Haverford’s 61-50 loss to Gettysburg on Wednesday, Miller had seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
Redshirt junior forward Brittany McClain (Harry S. Truman) contributed 16 points, six rebounds and four steals in East Stroudsburg’s 77-37 loss to California on Sunday afternoon. In Monday night’s 72-71 overtime win over Slippery Tock, McClain scored 13 points.
Senior Lindsey Tennett (Pennridge) scored a game-high 19 points off the bench to lead Holy Family to a 78-60 win over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday. In Thursday night’s 87-53 win over Chestnut Hill, junior Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) scored nine points and dished out six assists. In Holy Family’s 73-65 win over the University of the Sciences on Tuesday night, Peters scored 14 points after shooting 4-of-6 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Redshirt sophomore Ashley Rosario (Harry S. Truman) scored 12 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 62-52 win over the University of the Sciences on Thursday night.
Teanna Ziegler (Souderton) scored four points in Elizabethtown’s 80-59 win over Immaculata on Thursday.
Senior Addie Micir (Council Rock North) scored her 1,000th career point and led her Princeton squad to a 94-51 win over LaSalle on Tuesday. Micir became the 18th women’s basketball player in Princeton history to reach 1,000 points for her career. She joined the 1,000 Point Club on her first shot of the game, hitting her 38th three-point basket of the season. She finished the game with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. On Saturday, Micir scored 18 points to lead Princeton to a 56-45 win over Penn in the 2011 Ivy League opener.
Sophomore Shakia Robinson (North Penn) contributed 14 points, five rebounds and a career-best five assists in the University of Massachusetts’ 75-64 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.
Senior Liz Leer (Abington) scored a season-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor to lead American to a 64-51 win at two-time defending conference champion Lehigh on Saturday night. The win snapped Lehigh’s 18-game home winning streak against Patriot League competition – which dated back to the 2007-08 season – and extended American’s winning streak to nine. Leer also had seven rebounds, three blocked shots and three assists. She was 3-of-4 from three-point range and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. The 25 points were two shy of her career-best, which she set last season in a win over Colgate.
Senior guard Taylor Magnus (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored the tying basket to send Philadelphia University’s game against Felician College into overtime. The Rams lost 86-81 in overtime. Magnus finished the game with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. In Thursday night’s 82-52 win over Georgian Court, Magnus connected on 2-of-3 shots from three-point range, finishing with eight points and four rebounds.
Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) contributed five points in Bloomsburg’s 75-64 loss to Mercyhurst on Sunday. In Monday’s 84-62 loss to IUP, Derr scored four points.
Junior guard Alli Rosati (Central Bucks East) and senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Upper Dublin) each scored 12 points while freshman forward Sarah Martin (Central Bucks East) added 10 points in Ursinus College’s  79-75 overtime win over Centennial front runner Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In Monday’s 61-40 win over Delaware Valley, junior guard Jen Sroba (Council Rock North) scored 10 points. Martin pulled down 11 rebounds to share game-high honors.
Swarthmore senior Kathryn Stockbower (Upper Dublin) became just the fourth player in program history and 12th player in Centennial Conference history to reach 1,500 career points, thanks to a 21-point effort in Saturday’s 68-48 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday night. In Swarthmore’s 72-47 win over New York Tech in Tuesday’s final of the NYU New Year’s Classic, Stockbower contributed 19 points and 13 rebounds. It was the 72nd double-double of her career. For her efforts, Stockbower was named to the all-Classic team.
Sophomore Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) converted a layup with 16 seconds remaining to help lead No. 18 Millersville a 51-48 win over Edinboro on Sunday afternoon. Newman finished the game with 14 points while teammate Sophia Waters (Norristown) added 11 points. Waters is the only Marauder to tally double-digit scoring in each of the last eight games. On Saturday, Newman contributed 17 points and nine rebounds in Millersville’s 71-59 win over Lock Haven. Junior Sophia Waters (Norristown) added 12 points while teammate Brittney Gunn (Cheltenham) added four points. In Tuesday’s 66-38 win over Clarion, Gunn pulled down a career-high eight rebounds to go along with her career-high three steals. Waters scored 11 points, and Newman added 10 points.
Freshman guard Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored a team-high 14 points in Cabrini’s 50-48 win over Albright College at Madison Square Garden on Monday. Jenn Casper (Council Rock North) pulled down six rebounds in just 10 minutes play off the bench. In Wednesday’s 48-45 loss to Alvernia, Sandone scored six points.
Senior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) scored 29 points in LaSalle’s 69-54 loss to Fordham on Saturday afternoon. She hit six three-pointers, tying her highest total of the season. In LaSalle’s 94-51 loss to Princeton on Tuesday, Gale scored a game-high 23 points, which included 18 second-half points. In the second half, she connected on 9-of-9 from the free throw line. The national Division I steals leader also grabbed a team-high four thefts.
Freshman Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored 13 points and pulled down three rebounds in Lock Haven’s 80-75 win over Shippensburg on Tuesday. Teammate Heather McHugh (Norristown) added seven points and two assists. In Monday’s 70-40 win over Cheyney, Ryan had four points while McHugh added six points.

FOOTBALL
East Stroudsburg University’s Matt Freed (Souderton) started at outside linebacker and had seven tackles, a tackle for a loss and a pass breakup in the Cactus Bowl on Friday night at Texas A&M. Freed’s seven tackles were tied for second most on the Blue Devils in their 28-6 loss to the Red Storm. He had four tackles in the first half, assisted on a tackle on the opening kickoff of the second half, served as one of the personal protectors on the punt team and also had a snap in the offensive backfield on a fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line in the fourth quarter. This year marked the Division II All-Star Game’s first season without the traditional East-West format, as the Cactus Bowl organizers sought to select the top players at each position regardless of their region of the country.
Syracuse sophomore Justin Pugh (Council Rock South) was named to the second team All-Big East squad. The sophomore offensive tackle started all 12 regular season games for the Orange this season, helping the squad to convert 34-of-40 (.850) chances in the red zone, which ties for second in the Big East. On Dec. 30, Syracuse (8-5) defeated Kansas State 36-34 in the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. The Orange amassed a school record 498 yards of total offense.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE

MEN'S SOCCER
Marywood sophomore Ryan Jones (Council Rock South) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region team. Jones was named to the Mid-Atlantic's Second Team as a defender to become the first men's soccer player in Marywood history to be selected to the NSCAA All-Region team. He helped lead Marywood to a program-record 14 wins and its first-ever appearance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship game. A first team All-Conference selection for the second straight year, Jones helped anchor a defense that posted a goals against average of 1.03 for the season and set a program record with 10 shutouts. Playing primarily as a central defender, Jones was also a key contributor to Marywood's attack, ranking third on the team in scoring with 17 points on two goals and a team-best 13 assists. Jones set a program record for assists in a season while finishing the season tied for sixth in the nation in assists. After just two seasons, Jones has already doubled the former career assists record, which the sophomore now holds with 18. Jones also has been named to the Jewish Sports Review's 2010 Men's Soccer All American Team. One of just 13 players from NCAA Divisions II and III to be named to the squad, Jones earned his second straight JSR All-America honor following an outstanding sophomore season.
MEN’S SWIMMING
The Bloomsburg University swim teams took part in the 41st annual International Swimming Hall of Fame Ocean Mile Swim on Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. On the men’s side, Nick Ortlieb (North Penn) finished second in the College Sophomore Division.
Tim Dorsch (Souderton) was part of Bloomsburg’s 400 medley relay that broke the team record with a 3.28.37 performance earlier this season. It marked the first time in history that a Bloomsburg medley relay broke the 3:30 barrier.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Sophomore Paige Whitmire (Souderton) captured first in the 100-freestyle with a time of 52.40 in Penn State’s non-scoring meet against North Carolina on Tuesday in Naples, Fla. She finished second in the 50-free with a time of 23.82.
Sophomore Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) captured first in the 50 SC free (26.68) and the 100 SC fly (1:03.16) in Maryland’s 180-119 win over Rutgers on Saturday.

WRESTLING
Freshman James Vollrath (Council Rock South) posted a 13-3 major decision at 165 in Penn State’s 37-12 win over Edinboro on Saturday. In Sunday’s 24-12 win over #15 Michigan in the championship final of the 2011 Virginia Duals, Vollrath lost an 8-2 decision to Dan Yates. The Lions are ranked No. 2 nationally.
