Ouch!

Pennsbury (9-6-1) is one hot ice hockey team and the Falcons blistered William Tennent (6-8-2) by a 5-2 score in a Suburban High School Hockey League National Division game played at Grundy Ice in Bristol.

Pennsbury has won its last three SHSHL games by an impressive combined goal total of 22-4.

“Pennsbury is one hot team right now,” said William Tennent head coach Nick D’Aurizo. “They have two top tier players in (Ken) McCormick and (Mike) Hlatky, but they have a lot of other good players.

“That # 79 really hurt us tonight,” added D’Aurizo in reference to Pennsbury forward Luke Matthews. “They have a good squad top to bottom.”

Pennsbury solved the riddle of WT goalie Eric HorroX who stopped 51 – yes 51- shots for the Panthers.

“(HorroX) is big and takes care of all of the rebounds,” said Matthews – who scored a pair of goals for the Falcons. “There is no way that you are going to score any garbage goals off him.

“We have been playing very well lately, and we want to keep up the momentum,” said Matthews. “We have been playing well as a unit, and we want to keep getting wins and get set for the (SHSHL) playoffs.”

“We are playing with all the confidence in the world right now,” said Pennsbury head coach John Bria. “We got up 3-0, but Tennent got those two quick goals and made a game out of it.

“But we were able to fight and claw through it, and against the best goaltender in the league,” added Bria. “You can never relax in a one or two-goal game, and we were able to come through in the end.”

Pennsbury also received a two-goal performance from Ken McCormick. McCormick leads all SHSHL Class AA scorers with 42 goals.

The other goal scorer for Pennsbury was Drew Sweetland.

AJ Carbone scored a pair of goals for William Tennent.

“Pennsbury had over 50 shots on us in both games that we have played this year,” said D’Aurizio. “We were missing two of our best players tonight in Tom Rook (flu) and Clint Ausspring (club commitment), and I was proud of how we played being short handed.

“Especially against a team the caliber of Pennsbury,” added D’Aurizio.

CR South cracks Rock North

Council Rock South (14-0-1, 29) remained unbeaten in SHSHL play this season with a 5-0 victory over district rival Council Rock North (5-8-2, 12).

“Council Rock North came out real quick and outshot us 5-1 early in the game,” said Council Rock head coach Joe Houk. “If they had gotten an early goal, they would have grabbed some momentum.

“(Hawk goaltender) Steve Jastrow came up with some big saves,” added Houk as Jastrow recorded 23 saves in the shutout. “And we played pretty well in front of him.”

The Golden Hawks showed some depth – their top line was shut out - as the line of Nick Keck, Greg Aguaro, and Kyle Walter did most of the damage for the winners. Keck and Aguaro each scored a pair of goals, while Walter had three assists. The other goal scorer for CRS was Thomas Kozior.

“Council Rock North has a very young team, and their best days are coming,” said Houk. “We took control of the game from the middle of the first period to the end.

“Right now, we are getting ready for the (SHSHL) playoffs,” added Houk. “And then we will get ready for the Flyers Cup.”

Ready or not – here come the Hawks.
