MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Jaymes Miller (Abington) was named Millersville University's Athlete of the Week for men's basketball. He continued his development as a low post scoring threat for the Marauders by averaging 16.5 points in Millersville's two PSAC East games last week. Against PSAC-leading Kutztown, Miller produced a career game, scoring 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. He followed that effort with 11 points against East Stroudsburg. In six PSAC East games, Miller is averaging a team-high 14.5 points per game.
Steve Sims (Abington) tied his season highs of 14 points and four assists in Valley Forge Christian College's 105-69 win over Washington Bible College on Thursday night. Sims has started 24 of 25 games and is averaging seven points a game. He has a team-high 60 steals to go along with 50 assists.
Freshman AJ Picard (Souderton) contributed six points, three assists and three steals in Goldey-Beacom’s 75-56 win over Malloy on Monday.
Sophomore guard Derek Brooks (North Penn) scored a career-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting in Gettysburg’s 72-59 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. On Monday, freshman forward Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) scored six points and pulled down four rebounds – including two in the closing minute of the game – in Gettysburg’s 76-73 win over Harverford College.
Freshman CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 11 points and tied his career-high with nine blocks in St. Joseph’s 76-72 loss to LaSalle on Wednesday. Aiken ranks second in the nation in blocked shots and is the highest ranked freshman and only first-year player in the top 20. He leads the Atlantic 10 with 4.1 per game and 5.8 in conference games only.
Senior Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) contributed his second straight double-double to lead Temple to a 72-54 win over St. Joseph’s in an Atlantic 10 Conference battle at The Palestra on Saturday. Allen scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. He made seven of his 10 field goal attempts while also dishing out four assists and rejecting two shots. In Temple’s 76-67 win over Charlotte on Wednesday, Allen had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) led a balanced scoring attack of four Owls in double figures with a game-high 17 points to go along with six assists and a career-high six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored a season-high 37 points in Philadelphia University’s 92-86 overtime loss to Concordia on Saturday. Freshman Nick Christian (Bensalem) added 13 points. In Thursday’s 72-62 loss to Dominican, Connolly contributed 18 points and five rebounds while Christian added 11 points. Connolly, who leads the Rams in scoring with just under 18 points a game, is featured on CBS Philly.com. Junior Dan DelConte (Wissahickon) contributed seven points and three assists in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 68-64 win over Immaculata on Thursday night. The win was the fifth straight for the Griffins, who improved to 12-4 overall (7-2 CSAC).
Bryan Harrity (Central Bucks South) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds in Elizabethtown’s 80-59 win over Alvernia on Saturday. In Monday’s 86-68 win over Lancaster Bible College, Harrity contributed 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. He also was 2-of-2 from the foul line and pulled down six rebounds.
Sophomore Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) scored six points – including a clutch trey with 8:52 remaining to put the Mountaineers ahead 50-42 – in West Virginia’s 66-55 win over Cincinnati on Saturday night. In Wednesday’s 55-54 loss to 19th-ranked Louisville, Pepper contributed 10 points and four rebounds.
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) contributed five points in Bloomsburg’s 74-61 win over West Chester on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 71-64 loss to Mansfield, Christmas scored 10 points. Lavail Owens (Wissahickon) scored three points for Mansfield.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Mercedes Harris (Norristown) made history in Montgomery County Community College’s 53-52 loss to Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Harris connected on a layup that vaulted her over the 1,000-point plateau. She is the first women’s basketball player in Mustangs’ history to notch 1,000 points. Harris entered the game needing 15 points to reach the milestone. She finished the game with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Kristy Ragbir (Wissahickon) added six points.
Senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Upper Dublin) scored 10 points in Ursinus College’s 49-45 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. Freshman guard Sarah Martin (Central Bucks East) added seven points and a team-best eight rebounds off the bench. On Thursday, Hilf scored six points in the Bears’ 49-41 loss to Washington College.
Senior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) banked home a three-pointer with 2:30 remaining against George Washington to give LaSalle the lead for good in its 73-64 win on Saturday. Gale notched a game-high 26 points and went 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. She now has 184 career three-point attempts and is the all-time time single season leader in that category at LaSalle. Gale also had four blocks in the contest to give her 60 for her career and moved her into eighth all-time in that category. She also had four steals to put her at 168 for her career and into the ninth all-time spot in LaSalle program history.
Senior Kathryn Stockbower (Upper Dublin) contributed nine points and 13 rebounds in Swarthmore’s 64-47 win over Gettysburg on Saturday. In Thursday’s 72-43 win over Bryn Mawr, Stockbower moved one step closer to the NCAA Division III record for career double-doubles, recording the 78th double-double of her career, thanks to a 14-point, 11-rebound effort. She is now one double-double shy of tying Johns Hopkins’ Julie Anderson for the NCAA Division III record of 79. Sophomore Madeline Ross (Central Bucks East) hit five three-pointers and tied a career high with 17 points.
Freshman Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) contributed six points and five rebounds in Walsh University’s 87-57 win over Ursuline College on Wednesday. In Monday’s 111-57 rout of Wilberforce, Ciccarone contributed 16 points, connecting on 6-of-8 shots from the floor and 4-of-4 from the foul line. She also had six assists and five steals. In last week’s NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball rankings, Walsh (18-4, 9-1) moved up to number 12. On Sunday, Walsh won its school record 13th straight game when it defeated Malone 67-36 in front of 1200 fans – the largest crowd to watch a women’s basketball game at Walsh.
Junior Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) scored seven points in Holy Family’s 68-55 win over Caldwell on Saturday. Holy Family jumped one spot and is ranked second in the most recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top 25 Coaches’ Poll as announced by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Senior Lindsey Tennett (Pennridge) is averaging 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds a game while Peters is scoring 7.8 points a game and is among the conference leaders in assists (3.79 per game) and steals (2.0 per game).
Senior Addie Micir (Council Rock North) scored a game-high 18 points and led the team with seven rebounds in Princeton’s 52-37 win over Yale on Saturday. On Friday, Micir also scored 18 points in Princeton’s 70-48 win over Brown. Micir matched her career best for three’s in a game with six, a mark she has reached in six games in her career. Micir is Princeton’s leading scorer, averaging 13.6 points a game. She leads the league in three-pointers with 53 and is also the league’s top free throw shooter, hitting 90.7 percent of her shots. Micir adds 3.8 rebounds per game and is second on the team in assists with 47.
Freshman Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored nine points in Cabrini’s 72-34 win over Philadelphia Biblical University. Junior forward Jenn Casper (Council Rock North) added eight points.
Sophomore Ashley Rosario (Harry S. Truman) contributed five points and five rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 64-46 loss to Bloomfield College on Saturday.
Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored eight points in Haverford’s 67-57 loss to Muhlenberg College on Thursday.
Freshman Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) connected on three treys and scored 11 points in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 81-55 loss to Immaculata on Thursday night. In Monday’s 96-37 win over the College of Notre Dame, junior Bryn Cotteta (Norristown) scored 13 points and recorded a career-high seven assists as the Griffins surpassed their highest point total of the season.
Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) scored 13 points in Millersville’s 63-59 win over Kutztown on Saturday. Teammate Sophia Waters (Norristown) added eight points.
Freshman Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds in Lock Haven’s 66-58 loss to California (Pa.) on Saturday. Teammate Heather McHugh (Norristown) added three points, two assists and two steals. In Wednesday’s 66-55 win over Clarion, Ryan contributed eight points and seven rebounds while McHugh had two points and three rebounds.
Sophomore Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored four points in Bloomsburg’s 76-68 come-from-behind win over West Chester on Saturday. The win puts the Huskies in sole possession of first place in the PSAC Eastern Division with a record of 5-1. In Bloomsburg’s 83-58 win over Mansfield, Derr also had four points. Nicole Pender (Cheltenham) scored seven points for Mansfield.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Lloyd Tannenbaum (Upper Dublin) finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:26.77 in Ursinus College’s 118-81 win over Washington College on Saturday. He also finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 57.45.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Sophomore Paige Whitmire (Souderton) was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:42.17) in Penn State’s 123-120 win over No. 15 Michigan on Saturday. She also was part of the 400 free relay that finished first with a time of 3:22.36. Whitmire finished third in the 50 free with a time of 23.26. Penn State entered the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of American Top 25 poll for the first time this season, garnering 39 points and earning a ranking of 25th.
Julia DeVincent (Upper Dublin) finished sixth in the 200 free with a time of 2:02.49 – a PSAC-qualifying performance - in Bloosmburg’s meet at IUP this weekend.  The Huskies defeated Shippensburg (202-165) but loss to IUP (272-113) and Gannon (204-127).
Katleyn Brenner (Norristown) finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:16.73 in Millersville’s 155-107 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) was part of the second place 200 free relay team.
Alicia Detweiler (Pennridge) finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.72 in Widener’s 126-62 win over Cabrini on Saturday.
Freshman Abby Mitchell (Council Rock North) earned wins in the 200 free and 100 fly in Elizabethtown’s 125-61 win over King’s College on Saturday.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Penn State freshman Nick Scarpello (Central Bucks West) placed sixth out of 21 runners in the men’s one-mile run INV with a time of 4:09.11 at the Penn State National Invitational  on Saturday.
Millersville junior Keith Ogden (Cheltenham) earned a PSAC qualifying time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds at Saturday’s Bison Open. It represents the fastest time of the year for the Marauders. He also finished second in section one of the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.35.
Bloomsburg’s Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) posted his best time of the season in the 200 meter dash (23.37) at Saturday’s Bison Open at Bucknell University.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Lock Haven’s Vanita Moses (Neshaminy) set a school record with a NCAA provision qualifying mark in the weight throw at the Penn State National Invitational. Her throw of 55-11 is the top mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. She finished ninth overall.
Bloomsburg freshman Martina Drew (Neshaminy) was part of a relay team in the women’s Distance Medley Relay (DMR) that finished with a time of 12:55 at Saturday’s Bison Open. The time was faster than the DMR that ran and scored at PSAC last year.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) had 13 kills in Stevenson’s 3-1 win over Ramapo on Saturday (13-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23). The win over Ramapo was the first in five meetings against the Roadrunners, who were ranked at No. 15 in the AVCA Division III Men’s Coaches Top 15 Preseason Poll. Stevenson is unbeaten in seven games this season, tying a school record for consecutive wins. In Tuesday’s 3-0 sweep of Lancaster Bible, Jacoby totaled six of his seven kills in the first set while posting a .714 hitting percentage and three service aces.
Philadelphia Biblical University split Saturday’s matches with Elmira College and Nazareth College. In PBU’s 3-0 win over Elmira, senior Justin Brubaker (Souderton) contributed 16 kills and five blocks. He had 21 kills and nine stops defensively in PBU’s 3-2 loss to Nazareth in the nightcap. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over 15th ranked Baruch College (30-28, 26-24, 25-21), Brubaker notched a double-double, contributing 20 kills and 10 digs. It is the third time this season he has reached the 20-kill mark and 49th in his prestigious four-year career. Teammate Noah Prickett (Pennsbury) had six kills.                                                                       
WRESTLING
Boston University freshman Bubba McGinley (Central Bucks West) was named the CAA Rookie of the Week last week after going 3-0 at 125 at the Terriers’ home quad meet on Jan. 22. McGinley defeated all three of his opponents to help BU earn a sweep with dual victories over Sacred Heart, Davidson and American International. In the day’s first match, McGinley posted a 10-7 victory over Sacred Heart’s Billy Chamberlain, who qualified for the 2009 NCAA Tournament while wrestling at Duquesne. McGinley followed with an 11-4 victory over Davidson’s Matt Zarth before pinning Josh Rollins of American International just 2:22 into their match. With the three wins, McGinley improved his season record to 12-8. In Boston University’s 29-12 win over Army on Saturday, McGinley topped David White 9-1 at 125.
Sophomore 197 pounder Ted Conrad (Central Bucks West) pinned Marshall Plus in 1:48 to give Ursinus a 31-8 lead over Gettysburg on its way to a 31-12 win on Saturday. Conrad won by forfeit in Ursinus College’s 29-12 win over Johns Hopkins.
