Alison Bateman has found a way to do it all during her years at Norristown High School. A two-year captain of her swim team, Bateman, the team’s top swimmers, is a leader in and out of the pool. “She is probably one of the hardest working athletes I have coached in a long time,” coach Beth O’Neil said. “She’s determined, and she doesn’t miss a practice for anything.” Sprints are Bateman’s specialty, and she is the anchor for the Eagles’ medley and 200 free relay. “She has just come out of nowhere,” O’Neil said. “Races where I think, ‘Okay, we’ll take second,’ she has come out of nowhere and finished first.”
Bateman boasts a dazzling resume out of the pool as well. She is vice president of her senior class and is involved in Student Council and Class Congress. Academically, she is ranked number one in her class of 400-plus seniors. “For me, it’s not about number one,” Bateman said. “There are times when kids feel the pressure and feel they always have to be on top. My mom and dad have always been – ‘Do what’s best for you, not what’s best for anybody else.’ Especially this year, it’s so much more competitive with all the AP and honors classes. If I’m number one or I’m number 20, it just matters that I did it the right way.”
A member of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), Bateman advanced to the national level in Kentucky last year. An active member of Norristown’s Key Club, she has volunteered her time to numerous community organizations, and – a member of Norristown’s Engineering Community – she plans to major in chemical engineering. Her college list includes Penn, Purdue, Lafayette, Drexel, Stanford and Bucknell.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of Feb. 3, 2011)
Jacob Sisko is a three-sport athlete who was senior captain of both his North Penn water polo and swim teams. Last fall, he led the water polo team with 41 assists and 70 steals. He also scored 67 goals. In swimming, he has qualified for districts in the backstroke, 50 and 100 freestyles and all three relays. “He’s really a team player,” coach Brian Daly said. His coach can’t help but wonder where Sisko, who played soccer through ninth grade, would be had he been a year-round swimmer sooner. “When he started, you could see a lot of raw talent, a lot of untapped potential,” Daly said. “He just bought into our program and steadily kept improving. He’s establishing himself as one of the better athletes on the team.”
Sisko is a leader in and out of the pool. “He has the unique ability to step it up and keep the intensity up and keep the team focused but at the same time keep everybody loose and having fun,” Daly said. “He knows when to dial it in and when to let it loose. The younger guys really look up to him. He has this easy-going personality, always smiling. He’s just a real hard worker.”
In the spring, Sisko is a member of the volleyball team. With a course load of honors and AP classes, Sisko carries an unweighted 3.79 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society cabinet, and he is a volunteer at his church. Sisko has already committed to Penn State where he plans to major in forensic science.
