BASEBALL
Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) contributed three hits and two RBIs, but La Salle dropped both games in its doubleheader against UCSB in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Sunday.
Scott Runzer (Council Rock North) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while teammate Keith Meyer (Council Rock South) also went 3-for-4 with two RBIS in Bloomsburg’s 9-5 win over Newport News Apprentice School to secure third place in the Builder Invitational in Hampton, Va. On Saturday, Runzer delivered a two-run single in Bloomsburg’s 13-12 loss to Kutztown. Runzer was the winning pitcher in Bloomsburg’s 13-9 win over Briarcliffe College on Friday.
Chris Edgar (North Penn) was 3-for-5 with three runs scored in Millersville’s 12-10 loss to North Georgia on Sunday.  In Friday’s 8-1 win over previously unbeaten and eighth-ranked North Georgia, Edgar had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
Alec Jacob (Pennsbury) worked three shutout innings in relief in Lock haven’s 11-4 win over Apprentice School at the Builder Baseball Invitational on Sunday. He struck out one and allowed only one hit.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) contributed 18 points and eight rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 75-72 win over the University of the Sciences on Monday.
Sophomore guard Derek Brooks (North Penn) contributed nine points while teammate Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) added five points in Gettysburg’s 66-54 win over McDaniel College on Saturday. The win clinched Gettysburg’s 11th straight Centennial Conference playoff berth. 
Senior Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) pulled down 12 rebounds to become Temple’s all-time leader in rebounding in the Owls’ 66-52 win over St. Joseph’s on Sunday. Allen needed 12 rebounds to break the mark held by John Baum (1,042, 1966-69), and with 12 boards in the game, he now has 1,045 for his career. He also scored 14 points to record his sixth double-double of the season. Teammate Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) contributed nine points and four assists. St. Joe’s freshman C.J. Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed two points, three rebounds and one blocked shot. Aiken ranks second in the nation in blocked shots and is the highest ranked freshman and only first-year player in the top 20. In Temple’s 73-53 win over Richmond on Thursday, Allen contributed eight points, four assists and three blocks.
Gwynedd-Mercy junior Dan DelConte (Wissahickon) was named to the second team of the 2010-11 Colonial States Athletic Conference All-League teams. DelConte leads the Griffins in assists (106) and steals (34) and is third in the CSAC in assist-turnover ratio (1.5). In Gwynedd’s 82-57 win over Centenary on Monday, DelConte led all scorers with 23 points while also contributing six assists and five rebounds.
Cabrini senior forward Dom Farrello (William Tennent) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) first team. Farrello leads the conference in scoring (18.0 PPG) and is fourth in rebounds per game (7.8). He was twice named the CSAC Player of the Week during the regular season. Farrello has recorded a team-high six double-doubles in 2010-11 and has scored in double figures in 23 of 24 games. He eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career versus Philadelphia Biblical on Jan. 29 and currently ranks eighth all-time in scoring at Cabrini with 1,173 career points. Farrello twice eclipsed his career-high this season, netting 25 points in a win versus Gwynedd-Mercy on Feb. 7 and then dropping 33 points in a win over Marywood on Feb. 12. In Monday’s 95-81 win over Baptist Bible College, Farrello scored 18 first-half points and finished with 20 for the game. He also pulled down 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and seventh of his career. Sophomore center Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) scored 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field.
Bryan Harrity (Central Bucks South) contributed 17 points and five rebounds in Elizabethtown’s 85-84 loss to Arcadia on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 74-55 loss to Lebanon Valley, Harrity scored seven points.
Bruce Kennedy (Wissahickon) scored 12 points in Cheyney’s 83-81 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday to keep the Wolves’ playoffs hopes alive. With the win, Cheyney moved into a three-way tie for third place with two regular season games remaining. In Wednesday’s 82-80 loss to Kutztown, Kennedy scored 11 points.
Senior Chris McDevitt (Central Bucks West) scored 11 points in Widener’s 93-83 double overtime triumph over Lycoming on Saturday. The win clinched a conference tournament berth for Widener, which finished third in the Commonwealth Conference.
Rakeem Boyd (Harry S. Truman) scored 10 points in Lock Haven’s 107-78 loss to Edinboro on Saturday. He also pulled down three rebounds.
Freshman guard A.J. Picard (Souderton) knocked down a pair of three-pointers in Goldey-Beacom’s 68-64 win over Nyack College on Saturday. Picard was 2-for-2 from long range on the day and is 7-for-7 over the last three games.
Bloomsburg’s Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week for the period ending Feb. 12. This is the second time this season Christmas has won the Freshman of the Week award. In a 2-0 week for the Huskies, Christmas averaged 25 points and three rebounds per game. In a road win at Shippensburg, he scored 20 points and also had four rebounds and one assist. He connected on four three-pointers and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the foul line. In a win over Kutztown, Christmas scored a career-high 30 points and had two rebounds. He shot 10-for-13 from the floor, 6-for-9 from three-point range and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. For the week, he shot 56.7 percent from the floor (17-of-30), 50 percent from three-point range (10-of-20) and was 6-of-6 from the foul line. On the season, Christmas is averaging 11.3 points per game and 2.4 rebounds. He also leads the team in three-pointers with 45.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sam Lynam (Quakertown) surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in Wilkes University’s 69-60 win over Delaware Valley on Saturday, Feb. 12. The senior standout finished the game with 23 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. At the 9:14 mark of the second half, Lynam scored on a hard drive to the basket, drawing contact while connecting on the shot. The field goal gave her 999 career points, and the ensuing foul shot vaulted her to the 1,000-point plateau. She is just the ninth women’s basketball player at Wilkes to accomplish that feat. In Saturday’s season finale, a 76-35 loss to King’s College, Lynam scored a team-high 14 points. It represented the 53rd time in 82 career games that Lynam has reached double figures.
Senior guard Taylor Magnus (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a team-high 19 points in Philadelphia University’s 69-64 loss to the University of the Sciences on Monday.
Freshman Taylour Alston (North Penn) contributed 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds off the bench in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 79-63 win at Centenary on Monday night.
Senior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) scored 17 points in La Salle’s 77-60 loss to St. Joseph’s on Saturday afternoon. In LaSalle’s 85-84 win over third-place Charlotte on Wednesday, Gale scored 29 points, which included a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line. Her biggest play of the night was a steal and resulting foul shots that gave La Salle a four-point cushion with five seconds remaining. Gale finished the game with four steals and has 81 on the season, which puts her third all-time at La Salle in single season steals.
Junior Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) contributed seven points, seven rebounds and three assists in Holy Family’s 83-39 win over Nyack College on Saturday. The win was the ninth straight for Holy Family, which is ranked 18th in the most recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches’ Poll and second in the NCAA Division II East Region. In Thursday’s 95-39 win over Wilmington University, senior Lindsey Tennett (Pennridge) scored a game-high 17 points. She also had nine boards, three assists and four steals off the bench.
Senior Addie Micir (Council Rock North) contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, a career-best seven assists, three steals and two blocked shots in Princeton’s 73-57 win over Yale on Friday.
Senior Kathryn Stockbower (Upper Dublin) pulled down a season-high 22 rebounds, scored 15 points and hit a pair of game-clinching free throws with 9.1 seconds left to play to help lead Swarthmore College to a 65-60 win over Haverford on Saturday afternoon. It was the 83rd double-double of Stockbower’s career. Sophomore Madeline Ross (Central Bucks East) added 14 points.
Senior Liz Leer (Abington) contributed 25 points and 10 rebounds – good for her fifth double-double of the season – in American’s 73-62 win at Holy Cross on Saturday. She also registered her program-record 200th career block during the first half. A Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) bucket off a Leer feed gave American a 40-39 advantage. The win moved American into first place alone in the Patriot League. In American’s 60-47 win over Army on Wednesday, Leer shot over 50 percent from the floor for the fourth straight game, finishing with a team-high 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She also had nine rebounds. Kiely added eight points and three rebounds.
Freshman guard Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored eight points in Cabrini’s 73-69 loss to Neumann University on Thursday night. Cabrini closed out the 2010-11 season with a 10-15 overall record. In Monday’s 57-52 loss to Baptist Bible College, Sandone led Cabrini with 14 points, connecting on 4-of-9 shots and 3-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Sophomore Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) contributed four points in Bloomsburg’s 70-61 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
Sophia Waters (Norristown) scored 20 points while teammate Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) added eight points in Millersville’s 75-68 loss to West Chester on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 75-64 win over East Stroudsburg, Newman scored 19 points while Waters added six. For the Warriors, Brittany McClain (Harry S. Truman) scored nine points.
Freshman Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored three points and pulled down five rebounds in Lock Haven’s 79-53 loss to Edinboro on Saturday. Teammate Heather McHugh (Norristown) contributed two points and two rebounds. In Wednesday’s 81-63 win over Clarion, McHugh was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 13 points. Ryan added three points and four rebounds.
Erin Gold (Council Rock North) scored a team-high 16 points in Wesleyan’s 78-51 loss to Bowdon in the team’s season finale on Saturday.
Nicole Pender (Cheltenham) scored eight points in Mansfield’s 85-61 loss to Bloomsburg on Wednesday night.
Teanna Ziegler (Souderton) scored six points in Elizabethtown’s 62-53 loss to #16 Lebanon Valley on Tuesday.
MEN’S SOCCER
La Salle senior Ryan Richter (William Tennent) has been named 2010 Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. He led the city with 14 goals and helped the Explorers make a late-season push and advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship game. Richter also was named to the Soccer Six All-Star team. He was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year and was recognized as a NSCAA First Team Scholar All-American and an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First Team All-District selection. He became the second Explorer to be drafted by the MLS when the hometown Philadelphia Union selected him fifth overall in the MLS Supplemental Draft.
SOFTBALL
Millersville, which ended last season by winning seven of its last 10 games, is picked to finish fourth in the PSAC Eastern Division this season by the PSAC softball coaches. Sophomore Alicia Hughes (Quakertown) is one of three returning pitchers for the Marauders.
Junior Samantha Schoell (North Penn) was named one of Temple’s four captains for the upcoming season. A mainstay in Temple’s lineup the past two years, Schoell was a starter in 46 of the 47 games she played in last season. Playing primarily right field, she did not commit an error in her first two years. At the plate, she led the squad with seven sacrifices. In addition to her success on the field, Schoell was a member of the Trustee Ten, an honor bestowed on the top 10 student-athletes in terms of GPA for that academic year. She also earned Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honors last year.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Bloomsburg’s Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) finished third in this weekend’s PSAC Championships with a school record time of 1:54.57 in the 200-fly. The freshman swimmer’s time is an NCAA ‘B’ cut time and earned him All-PSAC honors. In the process, he also broke the 32-year-old school record for the event set by BU Hall of Famer Wayne Richards in 1979. DiLemmo finished eighth in the 100-fly with a time of 51.95 and swam a personal best in the 500 freestyle (4:44.75) to secure 10th place in the event. Teammate Ben Safran (Central Bucks West) finished ninth in the fly with a time of 1:58.03. In the 200 breast, Tim Dorsch (Souderton) finished sixth and broke the school record in the event with a mark of 2:08.79, an NCAA ‘B’ cut time. In the 1650 free, Brendan Malone (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 13th with a time of 17:07.61. Malone finished 16th in the 1000 free with a time of 10:10.67.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Lock Haven’s Kasey Campbell (Neshaminy) smashed her own school record in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:07.77 at the PSAC Championships. Earlier, Campbell smashed her own school record in the 1,000 freestyle with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 10:47.69. She was 21st overall. Her time at the 500-yard mark was also a lifetime best swim and will go down as a Lock Haven all-time, top-five performance.
Bloomsburg’s Madeline Barlow (Pennsbury) finished sixth in the 200-fly at the PSAC Championships with a time of 2:07.51, which is an NCAA ‘B’ cut time. Barlow finished ninth in the 400-IM with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 4:36.84. In the 200-free, Julia DeVincent (Upper Dublin) finished 14th with a time of 1:57.56. Tori Hall (Council Rock North) was part of the 200-medley relay that finished sixth with a time of 1:48.69.
Sophomore Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) established a conference meet record in the 100 butterfly on Friday night to capture first place and lead Maryland on day three of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Lafferty captured the 100 fly with a time of 52.39, just short of the conference record (52.34) set in 1997. She also was part of Maryland’s third place 400 medley relay that finished in a school record time of 3:37.21, which was good enough for an NCAA ‘B’ cut qualifying mark. Lafferty also finished second in the 50 free with a time of 22.35 and third in the 100 free with a time of 48.92. She also was part of the Maryland’s 200 medley relay that finished second with a school-record setting pace on Wednesday. The relay racked up a B-cut qualifying 1:38.57, topping the previous record of 1:39.76. Lafferty also was part of Maryland’s second place 400 free relay that established a new school record with a time of 3:17.44. Maryland finished fourth in the ACC championships for the second consecutive year.
Sophomore Paige Whitmire (Souderton) earned second team All-Conference honors for her performance during the Big Ten Championships. The Nittany Lions finished fourth in the field, finishing behind Indiana, Minnesota and Ohio State. Whitmire finished 11th in the 100-free and was part of the 400-free relay that broke a school record and finished fourth with a time of 3:17.44, topping the previous program record of 3:18.40 set in 2009. Whitmire was part of Penn State’s record-breaking 400 medley relay team that placed fourth with a time of 3:36.16, topping the previous school record of 3:36.39, which was set in 2003. In the 100-backstroke, Whitmire finished fifth with a time of 53.85. She was part of the 200-free relay that finished second and set a new school record of 1:29.64. Their performance marked the first time since 2002 that Penn State placed its 200-free relay team in the top three at the Big 10 Championships. In the 50 free, Whitmire finished with a school-record time of 22.57.
Elizabethtown freshman Abby Mitchell (Council Rock North) earned a silver medal in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Sunday. Mitchell swam over four seconds faster than her previous best time in the 200 fly (2:15.886). She was just 0.53 seconds behind gold medalist Madison Hauk of Albright.
Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) was part of Millersville’s 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished 11that the PSAC Championships with a time of 1:41.48. The team just missed the school record by .37 seconds. Thomas also was part of the Marauders’ 400-yard medley relay team that finished 12th with a time of 4:09.80.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Millersville’s Keith Ogden (Cheltenham) picked up a PSAC qualifying time in the 55-meter dash, finishing second at the Susquehanna Open with a time of 6.63.
Penn State freshman Nick Scarpello (Central Bucks West) ran a 4:09.68 mile at last weekend’s Flotrack Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor on the campus of the University of Washington. It was his second sub-4:10 performance of the year.
La Salle’s Paul Reilly (Upper Dublin) finished third in the men’s 1K at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. The Explorers finished sixth.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Lock Haven’s Christina Ohmott (Hatboro-Horsham) finished sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 10-4 at the Marc Deneault Invitational hosted by Cornell on Saturday.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior Justin Brubaker (Souderton) contributed 20 kills, five digs and six block assists in Philadelphia Biblical University’s 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday. It was his eighth 20-plus kill performance of the season. Ethan Mawhinney (Neshaminy) added five kills and six block assists, and Noah Prickett (Pennsbury) had six kills and 11 digs. Jon Rose (Central Bucks West) had six digs and two kills. In Wednesday’s 3-0 sweep of Stevenson, Brubaker had 23 kills and five digs while Prickett had seven kills and 10 digs. Rose added six digs. For Stevenson, freshman Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) had six kills and five digs.
Jacoby was named NECVA metro Division Player of the Week on Wednesday, sharing the honor with New Jersey City’s Kenny Lisk and Eastern Mennonite’s Chris Moise. It marks the second honor in as many weeks for Jacoby, who was selected as the NECVA and Metro Division Rookie of the Week on Feb. 8. The Mustangs posted two wins in as many games last week, earning a 3-0 win over the City College of New York at New Jersey City on Sunday before defeating the host Gothic Knights 3-1. Jacoby led the team with 29 kills, a .365 hitting percentage and four service aces while ranking third in digs with 10. His best performance came in a Metro Division clash with New Jersey City when he had 17 kills and eight digs.
