Falcons Fly in To Avenge Loss

Pennsbury advanced to the SHSHL semifinal round with a convincing 6-1 victory over North Penn in the first round of the Class AA playoffs in a game played at the Grundy Ice Center in Bristol. The Falcons will meet Council Rock South in a semifinal game to be played at the Bucks County Ice Center in Warminster with a 7 pm face-off.

“North Penn punished us the last time we played them,” said Pennsbury head coach John Bria. “The key for us tonight was to get out to a good start, and we were able to do that in the first period.”

The Falcons scored four goals in the opening period as Mike Hlatky scored a pair of goals, and Ryan Anderson and Phillip Herring each scored single goals.

“Htlatky scored that fourth goal with less than a second left in the period, and that really hurt,” said North Penn head coach Kevin Vaitis. “We thumped them the last time we played, and we might have taken them for granted at the beginning of the game.”

Pennsbury added to its lead in the second period as Anderson scored his second goal of the game.

“We have been looking for scoring help for the first line,” said Bria. “I thought that Ryan Anderson, Luke Matthews, and Nigel Honegger really stepped it up for us on the second line.”

The lone North Penn goal came in the second period off the stick of Brandon Fishman.

Honegger scored the final goal of the game for the Falcons in the third period – on assists from Anderson and Matthews.

Next on the Pennsbury schedule is a date with SHSHL regular season champion Council Rock South.

“All the games we have played with them have been pretty close,” said Bria. “We are feeling really good about ourselves, and we’re looking forward to the challenge of playing (CR) South.”

The Knights may have been knocked out of the SHSHL playoffs, but as the fifth place finisher in the SHSHL Class AA Division, North Penn should have no problem getting an invitation to the Flyers Cup tournament.

“We have to put this game behind us,” said Vaitis. “We will go out and practice hard and hope to make a run in the Flyers Cup.”

Council Rock South rocks and rolls over Council Rock North

Council Rock South advanced to the SHSHL semifinal round with a 4-0 shutout victory over rival Council Rock North in a Class AA playoff game played at the Bucks County Ice Center in Warminster. Rock South will now meet Pennsbury in that semifinal game to be played at the Bucks County Ice Center with a 7 pm face-off.

“Pennsbury is a very good team from top to bottom,” said Council Rock South head coach Joe Houk. It is going to be a very tough game; we need to bring our ‘A’ game.

“I was happy with the way that we played against Council Rock North,” continued Houk. “We had a solid effort and controlled the game from the very beginning.”

The Golden Hawks flew to a 1-0 lead in the first frame on a goal by Nick Keck. CR South scored three more goals in the second period to blow the game open. The goal scorers for the Hawks were Greg Aquaro, Mitchell Vaysman, and Steve Junod.

“There is no shame in losing to that team, they are that good,” said Council Rock North head coach Eric Tye. “Hayden Richards (41 saves) played great in goal, and Sam Kroh and Bobby Dumont had good games.”

Council Rock North still has a shot at being selected for the Flyers Cup due to its participation in the SHSHL playoffs.

“We would love to play at least one more hockey game this year,” said Tye. “We have a legitimate hope of getting into the Flyers Cup, and if that happens it would be a great experience for our players.”

Titans Rally For Victory

Central Bucks South advanced to the SHSHL Class AA semifinal round with a 5-2 victory over Neshaminy in a contest played at Hatfield Ice. The Titans will now face Central Bucks East in a semifinal game to be played at the Warwick Ice Arena with a 6:50 pm face-off.

“We physically took over the game,” said Central Bucks South head coach Tom Coyne. “Dominic Dicenso had the best game of the season tonight. He used his speed to open up the ice for both Tom Dougherty and Nick Delaurentis.”

That DD&L line scored four goals and had seven assists on the night. Dougherty led the scoring attack with a hat trick and an assist, while Dicenso had a goal and two assists. Delaurentis had four assists for the Titans.

Neshaminy actually led in the game twice. The Redskins took a 1-0 lead on a first period goal by Nick La Palombara and assumed a 2-1 lead on goal by Nick Verdi. The Skins outshot the Titans 32-30 for the game.

“Dennis Ruff shut the door after giving up those two goals,” said Coyne of his goaltender. “He more than held up his end of the bargain.”

The season, though, will most likely not be over for Neshaminy. With a sixth place finish in the SHSHL standings, the Skins will most likely be given a slot in the upcoming Flyers Cup.
