Lauren Ahrens is a two-year captain of the Central Bucks South swim team. The defending district champion in the individual medley, Ahrens – who has been swimming competitively since she was six - can swim in any event for the Titans and excel. “She can do every stroke at a high level,” coach Kevin Murray said. “I could put her in the league championship meet in the 100 free, the 100 back or 100 breast, and she would be ranked in the top three or four in each of those. What makes her so dominant is she’s highly proficient in every stroke.”
Ahrens, according to Murray, is like a coach on the team. She helped create the lineups for dual meets, and she willingly works with some of the less experienced swimmers. “Last year she was working breaststroke turns with some of my girls who I wasn’t get through to effectively for some reason,” Murray said. “She really shined in that atmosphere. Sometimes the higher level swimmers can’t talk to the other kids on the team, but she did an awesome job with that.”
Next year, Ahrens will continue her swimming career at the University of Delaware. An excellent student, Ahrens is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Student Council and Key Club. She plans to major in health and physical education with a possible nutrition minor. “My ideal dream job is to be a healthy and physical education teacher and high school swim coach and maybe an athletic director,” Ahrens said.

Matt Harkins has established a new career wins record in wrestling during a standout career at Hatboro-Horsham. He had 109 wins coming into the season and needed just 10 to top the school record of 118. He has put together four consecutive 30-plus wins seasons and broke the school mark for wins on Dec. 18 and has his sights set on 150 wins. “He has lofty goals, and he works hard,” coach Glenn Kaiser said. “When it’s time to step up, he does. That’s his character. He’s done well on the big stage.”
A senior captain, Harkins has been wrestling since h was five. His style is unorthodox but effective. “He loves to get into the scrambles, score big points and look for the fall,” Kaiser said. “We tried to change him, but we’ve been unsuccessful. It seems to work for him.”  A three-time sectional winner, Harkins finished second at regionals last year and advanced to states where he finished fourth.
A three-time all-academic selection in both the district and state, Harkins has been accepted at Penn, Penn State and Bucknell. He plans to major in biomedical engineering. He is uncertain whether he will continue his wrestling career at the collegiate level.
