The Golden Hawks stayed alive in their quest for the ninth and final state playoff berth with their big win.
Junior Alex Wheatley finished with a team-high 24 points to go along with 14 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Alexis Hofstaedter added 13 points.
Avon Grove actually led 11-9 at the end of one quarter, but the Golden Hawks answered with a 15-6 second quarter surge to go into halftime with a 24-17 lead. Taylor Hunt came off the bench to score all six of her points in the pivotal second quarter.
The Golden Hawks added to their lead in the second half, outscoring Avon Grove 32-24.
“Besides our Council Rock North game, this is the best game we played all year,” coach Monica Stolic said. “We moved the ball really well.”
That ball movement is underscored by the fact that Hofstaedter and Brooke Beidler both handed out five assists. Beidler also scored six points.
The Golden Hawks will face the winner of Wednesday night’s North Penn-Downingtown West game at Wissahickon on Friday night for the final state spot.
