Members of the Pennsbury girls’ bowling team were awarded medals for their fourth place finish at the Pennsylvania State High School Bowling Championships March 18-19. It was the highest finish by a Suburban One League squad and put the finishing touches on a strong season.
Pennsbury was one of three representatives from the SOL at the tournament. The Council Rock South girls’ squad finished seventh while the Pennsbury boys’ team finished ninth in the boys’ division. Both of those teams had won SOL Northern Division regular season crowns.
Two weeks earlier, the Pennsbury girls roared into the state tournament by winning the Eastern Pa. Regional Championship. At states, they finished fourth out of 12 girls’ teams after a furious run in the six Baker games (five bowlers rotating in one game) that ended the qualifying. They averaged 206 in the Baker games, just missing making it into the finals round.
Pennsbury’s Ashley Plenski won a silver medal for second best girls’ series during the team event with a 717 and third best girls’ game at 268.
In the individual portion of the state championships, Plenski along with Norrristown’s Matt Grayauskie were the only SOL bowlers to qualify. Plenski finished 14th out of 24 girl bowlers, and Grayauskie was 12th out of 24 boys, including a 266 game.
