On Thursday, Feb. 10, North Penn senior Mary Morris was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to compete in water polo at the collegiate level.

Mary Morris – Bucknell University (Water Polo)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Bucknell, University of Maryland, the College of William & Mary
Reasons for choosing Bucknell: “I liked Bucknell because of the closeness to home, and on my overnight visit, it just had the right feel for me.”
When did you starting thinking about competing in water polo at the collegiate level? “I always wanted to play a sport in college, whether it was swimming or water polo. The water polo thing just happened to work out, and I’m very happy.”
What will you take with you that you learned at North Penn? “Definitely a hard work ethic and just being persistent and keep trying new things and not counting yourself out.”
North Penn coach Bill Bartle says: “The longer you coach, the more you realize how important it is to coach quality individuals. If you look at the schools she was considering – not only did she excel athletically, but she excels academically. That hard work she showed in the pool carries over into the classroom, and I was very fortunate to coach an individual like that. She’ll surely be missed.
“That’s infectious and rubs off on the other girls on the team. She was a captain and leader, and it shows.”
