On Thursday, March 3, 2010, Pennridge senior Amanda Jaynes was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to play lacrosse at Bloomsburg University.
Amanda Jaynes – Bloomsburg University (Lacrosse)
Major: Operations Management
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, St. Joseph’s University
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “When I visited, I liked the environment. I liked that it’s Division 2, but it’s a competitive Division 2 school, and they also had a great program for my major.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse? “It probably started when I was a sophomore, and I was playing with some older girls who were graduating and going on to play in college. They helped me a lot, and it really opened my eyes to the possibilities of recruiting at different schools and different levels of play.”
What was the recruiting process like? “The process is stressful and it’s long. Coaches can play hard to get, and you almost feel like you’re annoying them. I didn’t know much about recruiting until this summer because it was the first year I had played club. A lot of the girls I played club with were already committed, so it was kind of frustrating to me.
“My coach really helped along the way, and I e-mailed schools. Unfortunately, some of them were done recruiting by the time I e-mailed them, but when I talked to the Bloomsburg coach, she was really open to having me come up and see the campus, meet with her and meet the team. She really helped me along the way.”
Coach Heidi Rimmer says: “Amanda has always played defense for us, but this year she’s playing midfield at defense wing. She’s just a strong, reliable player. You can always count on her. She has great stick skills, and she’s a great defender. To be a good defender, you need good body control, and you need to have a really good game awareness, and she does both of those things really well.
“She’s a captain and a great leader. The girls really listen to her. She has a lot of good advice to give to them. She’s played for a long time, and she tries to explain things to the younger girls. She’s always willing to help anybody out if they have a question. The girls really turn to her for advice.”
