Pennsbury 11, Wissahickon 10 (OT)
Senior Taylor Hickman scored the game winner in overtime. The Pennsbury senior finished the game with four goals while teammates Kelsy Gumbert, Liz Cowley and Joy Hopkins each added two goals to lead the Falcons to the dramatic overtime win. Jackie Sweeney added a single goal to close out the scoring for the Falcons.
“Wissahickon is a very aggressive and tenacious team,” said Falcon coach Kelly White, whose team led by a goal at halftime. “They’re a good team, and they collapse on the ball very quickly, especially on my low attack.
“We are not used to that, and my girls were definitely getting flustered. Our strength is scoring off transition. When we have to set up and try to run plays, it’s just not where our strength is right now. Today the name of the game was scoring off transition because they collapsed on the ball right away.”
White, whose team was coming off a 17-12 loss to Central Bucks South in a game it had led, lauded the effort of her squad.
“Today was about finding our internal motivator and figuring out what gets you motivated to play and staying connected to the game for yourself and for your teammates,” she said. “They did that today.
“They played all-out today, so it was fun to watch them.”
