The inclement weather did not prevent critical games with PIAA District One Quad-A Playoff implications to be played.

And when the day closed, North Penn, Truman, Plymouth Whitemarsh, and Central Bucks East all walked through the front door with victories.

Central Bucks South strolled through the back door with a loss.

And the door closed on Central Bucks West, Hatboro-Horsham, and Norristown.

The ‘North’ bracket of the PIAA District One Quad-A Playoffs will showcase four teams from the SOL Continental – Pennridge, North Penn, CB East & CB South – three teams from the SOL National Conference – Council Rock North, Council Rock South, & Truman – and one team from the SOL American Conference – Plymouth Whitemarsh. The remaining four teams – Spring-Ford, Boyertown, Owen J Roberts, & Methacton – are members of the Pioneer Athletic Conference.

The district seeding meeting will be held this Thursday.

North Penn (9-5) is safe and secure in the PIAA District One Quad-A Playoffs after the Knights routed host Hatboro-Horsham (6-8) – 11-0. The game was called after the fifth inning due to the ‘mercy-rule’.

“I told the players after the game that we are playing our best baseball of the year, and this is the best time to be doing that,” said North Penn head coach Bob McCreary. “We will most likely fall into the 8-10 seed in the (district) playoffs, but if you don’t win a league title, you want to be in the (district) playoffs.”

North Penn had a nice game thrown by junior Alex Lashkevich who threw a complete game – allowed just a single hit - and had seven strikeouts.

“Alex did a great job of working both sides of the plate,” said McCreary. “We have shut down Bryce Mengel (with soreness), and Alex has stepped in and thrown very well for us the last two games that he pitched.”

The Knights also pounded out 11 hits and were led offensively by Peter Edgar and Ed Posavec. Edgar was 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Posavec had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored.

Central Bucks East (8-6) is safe and secure in the PIAA District One Quad-A Playoffs after the Patriots hammered host Souderton (4-10) – 8-1.

“We started the season 0-3 and we came back to win eight of the last 11 games,” said Central Bucks East head coach Kyle Dennis. “We came back after that tough loss to Quakertown in our last game to beat Souderton, and now we can focus on the playoffs.”

East hurler Kris Davis has been the ace of the Patriot staff this season, and there was no surprise that he was superb in a must-win situation for the Pats. Davis won his fifth game of the season – yielded just four hits – and had seven strikeouts. He also collected two hits.

“We gave Kris the ball in this game – and he’ll get it in the first game of the playoffs,” said Dennis. “He has had an awesome season and is a great competitor.”

The East hitting attack pounded out 16 hits and featured three-hit games by both Ryan Clow and Ryan Pater. Clay Sebesky, Tyler Zelaney, and Davis had two hits each – while Ben Houser had two RBI.

Central Bucks South (7-7) is safe and not-so secure in the PIAA District One Quad-A Playoffs after the Titans lost to rival Central Bucks West (7-7) – 4-3.

“I’ve been told that we will win tiebreakers with West to get that last playoff spot, but I won’t feel good about until I see it in writing,” said Central Bucks South head coach Mike Schaefer. “We beat North Penn twice during the year, and those might be the games that put us in the playoffs.

“The big thing for us was to get to the playoffs,” added Schaefer. “Everyone is 0-0 when the playoffs start, and I know we have the players to get us to the second round.”

CB West had a wonderful game thrown by Marty Martens who threw a complete game and had seven strikeouts. Pat Bradley drove home two key runs in the first inning for the Bucks.

“We lost four games this year because of poor fielding,” said CB West head coach Jim Ertel. “We only have ourselves to blame for not getting into the playoffs.

“This was a great game, though, for the seniors to go out on,” added Ertel. “We only had the three seniors, and the future looks good for us.”

Plymouth Whitemarsh (10-8) is safe and secure in the PIAA District One Quad-A Playoffs after the visiting Colonials routed host Norristown (7-10) – 14-4.

PW scored 10 runs in the second inning to assume a huge lead. The Colonials had home runs hit in the inning by Jason Cho, Jake Mascio, and Steve Wallace. Bobby Slagle also had a two-run single in the inning.

“Honestly, when the inning was over I told the kids that we can’t let up,” said Plymouth Whitemarsh head coach Robert Slagle. “We had a 10-1 lead and a 15-9 lead on Norristown last week – and we lost 16-15.

“But before I could say anything, Jake (Mascio) and Bobby (Slagle) stepped up as captains and reminded them of what happened last week,” added Slagle. “Norristown never quits – especially in that ballpark where the ball jumps out of the park”

Steve Wallace went the distance for the Colonials to pick up the win.

“It feels great to be in the (district) playoffs,” said Slagle. “At 10-8, we’ll be glad to go anywhere and play anybody.”

Truman (9-5) is safe and secure in the PIAA District One Quad-A Playoffs as the visiting Tigers edged host Abington (5-9) – 1-0.

The game came down to the final play of the game when Truman right fielder Kyle Tepper threw out the tying run at the plate on a great throw to catcher Brian Beyer.

“Kyle played the line drive on one hop and made a great throw to Brian,” said Truman head coach Jeff Vitale. “This was a huge win for us, and Zach Philippi threw a terrific game for us.”

Philippi fired a complete game for the Tigers – struck out five hitters – permitted three hits - and did not issue a single walk.

Abington junior Greg Mugnier was equally effective as he did not allow a single earned run – struck out seven hitters – and allowed just three hits.

“It was a great, great high school baseball game,” said Abington head coach Dave Torresani. “Both pitchers threw excellent games.”

The only run of the game came in the first inning on a throwing error.

The Council Rock North (12-1) game with Neshaminy (5-8) and the Pennsbury (5-8) at William Tennent (2-11) game were postponed. Neither game affected district playoff possibilities.
