On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, Council Rock North senior Brandon Dalinka was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to take his golf talents to the University of North Carolina.

Reasons for choosing UNC: “I really liked the coaches, and that’s what set them apart from the rest. It was a difficult choice, but you’re with the coaches so much, and you have to relate to them and you have to get along with them, so that’s what swayed my decision to go there. I really connected with the coaches and could relate to them a lot.
“The campus is beautiful. It’s one of the best in the country. It’s a good mix of school and campus life.”
What was the progression that led you to playing golf at the collegiate level? “I have been playing in tournaments since I was 11 or 12, and I got really serious when I was 15. That’s when I got really serious about the golf tournaments.
“I was visiting schools all last year. I visited North Carolina last February. Most of the schools contacted me, but I contacted UNC first. That was one of the only schools I had a real strong interest in beforehand. It just ended up working out.
“The recruiting process was stressful, but once I visited UNC, I knew I wanted to go there.”
Coach Rich White says: “Brandon’s been one of the steadier players. He did not qualify for states as a ninth grader, but as a 10th, 11th and 12th grader, he was probably the most consistent player week in and week out that we have had in a long time. He was player of the year for the Bucks County Courier-Times for three years in a row, which he deserved. His stroke average at the end of the year was exemplary.
“He’s the kind of player who’s capable of going low at any time. He never got ruffled. He was consistent week after week after week, and that set him apart from a lot of players. He didn’t know what a bad day was.
“Brandon’s going into a good situation. He’s going into a situation where he’s comfortable. He did his homework. He looked around, and he was talked to and talked about by a lot of coaches and recruiters but the school he settled on is a good spot for him.”
