PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW
Coach: Michael Nguyen (3rd year)
Assistant coaches: Natasha Wetten, Casey McLenigan
Last year’s record: 12-2(14-3 overall), 2-1 in playoffs. PW lost to Mount St. Josephs in 3rd round of districts. Finished tied for 5th in districts.
Notable losses: Lost 5 starters to graduation and 7 seniors overall. Lost Devon Maugle who will be playing D1 volleyball at UCONN and Alex Griffin, who was a First Team All-District player. PW also lost Dana Wisniewski (3rd Team All-District) and Meghan Lawrence (Honorable Mention All-District).
Key returners: Anna Waltz (12th Grade/Outside Hitter), Gigi Jenkins (12th Grade, Outside Hitter) and Liz Keefer (12th Grade, Middle Hitter)
Others to watch: Riley Hellings (11th Grade/Setter), Tori Biggins (10th/Setter), Emily Houck(10th/Opposite) Michele Taunton (11th/Opposite)
Strengths/Question Marks: “Outside hitting is a strength because the two starting outside hitters have both played high school and club volleyball for at least the past two years. We have a freshman middle hitter out of necessity, which may be a glaring weakness this year.
Outlook: “PW looks to have a winning record this year, but it will be tough because the lack of experience and overall height. This may be a rebuilding year but it will not be from a lack of hard work put forth by the players.”
