SOL BOYS SOCCER

Pennsbury 0, Council Rock North 0 (2OT)
Two of the expected frontrunners in the National Conference battled through two halves and two overtimes of scoreless play in Thursday's wet, windy matchup.

"This was a good game to watch," said Rock North coach Wendell Beres. "Both teams had chances. Their keeper made a couple really good saves to keep it scoreless."

The Indians received strong performances from Billy McConnell, who was moved to the back line, and Nick Gorman, a junior who began the season on junior varsity but has been a solid addition to the defense since he was moved up to the varsity squad.

Will Terry made four saves for the Indians.

In the other cage, Pat Lestingi made six saves in the game. Coach Tom Stoddart credited his entire team for a strong overall effort.

"We go 18 players deep," Stoddart said. "Everyone that went in really stepped up. I'm pretty pleased with how we played. Overall, this was a pretty solid game."

"We were pressuring them the first half, we just couldn't get that final shot," said H-H coach Kyle McGrath.

Paul Haggerty put the Hatters on the scoreboard in the 49th minute when he fired in the rebound of a Ryan New shot. Kyle Parkinson added the insurance tally in the 60th minute on a setup from Chris Russomano.

Brian Ehrlich made five saves, and Karl Leisch played a strong game at center back for the Hatters, who improve to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in the conference.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh 1, Cheltenham 0 (OT)
For the second game in a row, Mike Banerjee accounted for all the scoring. Tyler Haney made three saves in recording the shutout for PW, which improves to 4-2 overall, 3-1 in conference play.

"The kids played with a lot of confidence and played really well," said PW coach Devon Landgraff. "We're looking for a way to put these games away earlier and not have to take it to overtime."

"We had a couple of breakdowns and they capitalized on them," said Upper Merion coach Tom Dodds. "We've been working on not letting that happen. But we have some young guys and these things happen with a young team. The second half, we did play better. We're going to learn from this one."

SOL GIRLS’ SOCCER

Hatboro-Horsham 2, Pennridge 1
Goalie Lindsay Day gave Hatboro-Horsham the chance to pull out the victory ... and Tory Adlam made sure that chance didn't go to waste.

With the score tied at 1-1 with about five minutes left, Day came up with a crucial save to keep the score knotted. And with time running out, Siobhan Spanninger brought the ball up the left side of the field and found Kellie McGouldrick, who sent a crossing pass to Tory Adlam. Adlam stretched and got a toe on the ball, poking it into the net with 23 seconds remaining in the game.

"It was an incredible ending," said H-H coach Ben Winderman. "It was a real culminating effort. You've got to be pleased with the way they played today, but to get that reward and win in regulation was really great for them."

Pennridge staked out an early lead, bringing a 1-0 edge into halftime on the strength of a Natalia Pinkney goal. But Mary Kate Brennan (Ramsey McMenamin assist) scored with 13 minutes left to knot the score and set up the dramatic ending.

"We've played well against Pennridge the last several years but we haven't beaten them," Winderman said. "This game really shows them what they're capable of. This was the first game where we really played well for a long stretch."

In dealing Pennridge its first loss of the season (5-1 overall, 3-1 National Conference), Hatboro-Horsham moves to 3-1, 2-1.

Quakertown 3, Souderton 1
Sophomore Shannon Gibat scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season as Quakertown defeated local rival Souderton on Thursday. Gibat netted her first goal 20 minutes into the first half, then added a second goal with less than four minutes left until halftime. Souderton answered back less than a minute later with a Taylor Schwartz goal that made it a 2-1 game at the half.

"That third goal is always a dangerous goal," said Quakertown coach Mike Koch. "Either it gives you the big lead, or it puts them right back in it. But our girls maintained their composure and were able to control much of the play in the second half."

Shelly Cowan gave the Panthers some breathing room with a goal with 27 minutes left in the second half. Jenna Joseph recorded an assist and played well in the midfield for the Panthers. Sarah Sothergill made four saves in the victory.

Quakertown improves to 2-2 overall, 1-2 in Continental League play. Souderton falls to 1-3, 0-3.

Council Rock South 3, Abington 1
Council Rock South jumped out to a 3-0 lead and rolled to a 3-1 win over Abington in Thursday's National Conference game.

Gabby Nyirjesy contributed another solid defensive performance from her midfield position for the Hawks, who fought off a game Abington squad that kept up the pressure until the end of the game.

Neshaminy 7, Bensalem 1
Megan Schafer scored a hat trick and Jamie Mason and Dana Knapp each added two as Neshaminy rolled to a 7-1 victory over National Conference opponent Bensalem on Thursday. Meghan Kaminski made nine saves to record the shutout

Council Rock North 1, Pennsbury 0
Sarah Scheidell scored the only goal of the game off a nice pass play from Andrea Mateer to down Pennsbury in Thursday's National Conference game.

"We shut down a little after we scored," said Indians head coach Larry Sullivan. "(Pennsbury) had a lot of opportunities. We're still working on getting it together under pressure. In the end, we fought to keep them from scoring. They refused to quit. They gave us everything we could handle. I was glad to hear that whistle."

Helena Gemmell played a strong game for the Indians, playing in goal in the first half and in the field in the second. Kaitlyn McNamara also contributed a strong performance.

Daniella DiGulielmo returned from injury to play the second half in goal.

"She had to field her position well," Sullivan said of DiGulielmo. "They were sending balls in and she had to come out and make the plays."

The Indians improve to 4-0 overall, 4-0 in National Conference play. Pennsbury falls to 1-2-1, 1-1.
