MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Junior Sam Stortz (Upper Dublin) took first place in the Cougar Classic hosted by Misericordia on Saturday, crossing the finish line with a total time of 27:26.99. Sophomore Charles Wacker (Plymouth Whitemarsh) took 20th overall with a time of 29:42.50. Ursinus finished third in the meet. Earlier this season, Stortz was the top finisher for Ursinus College in the Delaware Valley Invitational. Stortz finished third with a time of 27:34.19, which was 29 seconds behind the top finisher. Ursinus finished third in the invitational.

Shippensburg junior Kirstofer Kroeger (Harry S. Truman) finished 14th with a time of 27:13 at the Kutztown Division II Challenge on Saturday. The Red Raiders placed five leader runners among the Top 20 and finished third as a team. Matt Bee (Central Bucks West) finished with a time of 28:34.

Nick Crits (Wissahickon) finished in the top 15 of the Navy Invitational on Saturday with a time of 24:49.79.

Chestnut Hill senior Owen Ward (Harry S. Truman) ran 34th with a time of 30:23.47 in Saturday’s University of Delaware Invitational.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Millersville’s Michelle Blum (Central Bucks East) and Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) finished with times of 26:07 and 27:00 respectively in Saturday’s 17th Annual John ‘Paddy’ Doyle Meet of Champions.
Temple sophomore Kelly Broadbent (Upper Dublin) ran a time of 25.29 and teammate Taylor Goldsworth (Central Bucks South) ran a time of 25:48, finishing 103rd and 117th in a field of 202 runners at Iona College’s 17th annual Brother Doyle Meet of Champions. Temple finished 14th overall.

West Chester’s Trish Evans (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 37th with a time of 26:21 in West Chester’s fifth place finish at the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday morning.

Lock Haven’s Laura Histand (Neshaminy) finished eighth with a time of 24:32 in the 2011 Division II Challenge hosted by Kutztown University. Lock Haven finished second to No. 8 Shippensburg.

FIELD HOCKEY
Senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Central Bucks East) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week last week. Lukens made eight saves in the win over Bears’ 2-1 win over Cortland and had 16 saves against 15th-ranked Rowan for a total of 24 saves on the week. She improved her save percentage to .824 on the season.  On Wednesday, Lukens and freshman goalkeeper Paige McElhenny combined for the shutout in a 14-0 Ursinus win over Bryn Mawr.

Sophomore Kierstan Ryan (Harry S. Truman) contribute an assist in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 7-3 loss to fifth-ranked Skidmore College. Tuesday, Ryan scored a goal in RPI’s 4-0 win over Hartwich College.

Britttany Varacello (Central Bucks South) was in goal in the first half of IUP’s 3-2 win over Lock Haven on Tuesday. On Friday, Varacello and teammate Sarah Lemieux combined for nine saves in IUP’s 3-0 loss to second-ranked West Chester. In Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win over Kutztown, Varacello recorded three saves in a half of action.

Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Lebanon Valley’s 4-1 win over Susquehanna on Wednesday night.

Senior goalie Megan Goelz (Pennsbury) had 11 saves in Villanova’s 6-0 loss to #4 Connecticut on Saturday. On Sunday, Goelz had three saves in the Wildcats’ 3-1 win over Radford.

Senior Casey Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) converted a penalty corner in the 14th minute for her third goal of the season in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 3-2 overtime loss at Richard Stockton on Thursday. On Tuesday, Dellestretto and sophomore Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) each contributed a goal and an assist in Gwynedd’s 5-0 non-league win over Delaware Valley.

Junior midfielder Amanda Fleischut (Central Bucks West) scored the game-winning goal off a penalty corner with two minutes remaining in the second half to lead Drexel past Temple 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Fleischut scored both of her team’s goals.

Sophomore Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a goal in Penn State’s 2-1 win over Duke on Saturday afternoon.

Becca Chylack (Souderton) contributed an assist in La Salle’s 2-1 overtime loss to Towson on Friday. It was the second straight OT loss for the Explorers, who fell to 2-5.

Lindsay Staufenberg (Norristown) recorded three saves in Lock Haven’s 3-2 double overtime win over Colgate on Friday. On Tuesday, Staufenberg turned away three shots in Lock Haven’s 6-0 win over Robert Morris.

FOOTBALL
Senior defensive end Sean Whelan (Central Bucks East) had nine tackles while also picking up a sack and two tackles for losses in Ursinus College’s 21-9 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Junior running back Teddy Conrad (Central Bucks West) had a three-yard TD run. He finished the day with 24 yards on six carries.

Freshman Craig Needhammer (North Penn) scored a touchdown in Lycoming’s 31-28 loss to Widener on Saturday.

Sophomore Jake Metz (Souderton) had a sack for a loss of 12 yards and also recovered a fumble in Shippensburg’s 54-24 win over Clarion on Saturday.

Junior quarterback Kevin Morton (Abington) threw for 280 yards on 22-of-29 attempts in Kutztown’s 29-6 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. He fired three touchdown passes to extend his streak to 20 straight games with at least one TD pass. Morton has 66 career touchdown passes and 13 through three games this season.Jason Ulmer (Neshaminy) came up big defensively, contributing seven tackles. He also had an interception.

Jackson Fagan (Pennsbury) returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown to give West Chester a 17-6 lead on its way to a 20-13 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday. Teammate Shawn Leo (Souderton) tacked on a pair of field goals (22, 36) for West Chester.

Senior linebacker Mike Bergey (Souderton) contributed 11 tackles and forced a fumble at the goal line in the fourth quarter of East Stroudsburg’s 22-19 loss to No. 21 California on Saturday night. Sophomore outside linebacker Derek Brown (Souderton), tied for third in the PSAC with 10.0 tackles a game, had six tackles, 2.0 for a loss and a sack.

Steve Roberts (Upper Dublin) recovered a fumble in Millersville’s 47-0 loss to Gannon on Saturday.

Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) hauled in a 42-yard touchdown pass in Bloomsburg’s 20-16 win over IUP on Friday night.

MEN'S GOLF
Russell Hartung (Central Bucks East)
carded a 227 (77-75-75) in Temple’s 15th place finish in the 18-team field at The McLaughlin to open the 2011 season.

Sophomore Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a collegiate low route of 69 (-2) to lead the La Salle golf team to its best team score in five years at this weekend’s Navy Fall Classic at the Naval Academy Golf Course. Johnson placed fifth, four shots off the lead, and the Explorers carded a second round score of 295 (+11) to finish ninth in the team scoring. Johnson’s score of 69 bests the 70 he shot in the second round of the Big 5 Invitational in October 2010. After a 73 on Saturday, his 69 on Sunday was the second best score recorded on the day. His two round score was an even par 142.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Middlebury College freshman Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot rounds of 76 and 81 to tie for third as an individual at the NYU Invitational Women's Golf Tournament last weekend. Her scores helped Middlebury to place second out of 11 teams in the tournament, which was held at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, NY.

MEN’S SOCCER
Junior Alex Supplee (North Penn) scored a goal in Shippensburg’s 3-2 win over Lock Haven in Friday night’s PSAC opener.

Geoff Cochrane (Council Rock South) and Kris Davis (Central Bucks East) were part of a defensive unit that came up big in Elizabethtown’s 2-0 win over Wilkes on Saturday.

Jidell Roach (Abington) contributed an assist in La Salle’s 1-0 win over Army on Saturday.

Junior Matt MacWilliams (North Penn) contributed an assist in Temple’s 3-2 win over Jacksonville in Friday’s first match of the Stetson Soccer Classic in DeLand, Fla.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Allie Riegel (Central Bucks West)
contributed an assist in Kutztown’s 2-0 win over Dowling on Wednesday.

Amanda Fisher (Abington) was part of a defensive unit that sparked Elizabethtown to a 1-0 win over Franklin & Marshall in double overtime on Thursday.

Melissa Kornock (North Penn) scored a goal in IUP’s 4-1 win over Mansfield on Wednesday.

Redshirt junior Tara Murphy (Council Rock South) recorded four saves in the net in Temple’s 5-0 loss to Rider on Friday.

Jenn Hutchinson (Neshaminy) scored a goal in West Chester’s 2-1 win over Bloomsburg in a PSAC contest on Saturday.

Samantha Fox (William Tennent) drilled a header into the back of the net off a corner kick in Bloomsburg’s 2-1 loss to #10 West Chester on Saturday. It was Fox’s first goal of the 2011 season.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Freshman Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) won a hard-fought three-set win at #3 singles, rallying in the third set tiebreaker to earn a 10-8 win (1-6, 6-3, 10-8) as Gwynedd-Mercy notched its sixth win without a loss on Saturday.  Michener was also part of the #2 doubles team that earned an 8-6 win. Teammate Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) was perfect at #1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. She also was part of the #1 doubles team that earned an 8-2 win.  On Friday, Michener notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at #3 singles and an 8-1 win at #1 doubles in Gwynedd’s 9-0 win over Immaculata. Rein was once again perfect at first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Last Monday, Michener earned a straight set win at #3 singles (6-2, 6-3) and added a victory at #1 doubles (8-3) in Gwynedd’s 9-0 CSAC win over Keystone last Monday. Fein rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in #1 singles.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior Aileen Reilly (Yardley) had nine digs and seven kills in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 3-2 win over Cedar Crest on Wednesday night (25-17, 27-25, 25-17). Last Saturday, Riley had 23 kils and 18 digs in Gwynedd’s three matches at the Bryn Athyn College Quad Match. Gwynedd dropped a 3-0 decision to Goucher but rebounded with wins over Bryn Mawr (3-1) and St. Elizabeth (3-0).

Freshman Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) recorded a double-double in UConn’s 3-1 loss to Virginia Tech, contributing 12 kills and 12 digs.

Sophomore Liz DiValerio (Upper Merion) registered a career high in digs (17) and kills (12) in Kutztown’s 3-2 win over IUP on Friday night (14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 15-11). On Saturday, DiValerio led the Golden Bears with seven kills and two blocks to go along with 18 digs in Kutztown’s loss to California on Saturday.

Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) contributed five kills in Chestnut Hill’s 3-2 loss to Albright on Saturday.
