PENNSBURY 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 3 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18)
Junior Jae Jackson had a big night at the net for the Falcons, delivering nine kills. Teammates Audrey Stringer and Olivia Aizen each added seven kills. Aizen also had seven service aces. Lauren Pisauro had a solid all-around night, contributing four kills, six aces and six digs, and teammate Kate Webb added six digs. Setter Paige Misawic had 24 assists.
The Panthers, meanwhile, suffered a major setback when they lost senior outside hitter Jill Devery midway through the first game to a sprained ankle. She was sidelined the remainder of the night.
“Pennsbury is really talented and well coached,” Panther coach Brian Bassler said. “They are the best team we have seen to this point, and we really wanted to use this match as a measuring stick. I think we can play much better, but Pennsbury really took us out of our game at times and dictated the tempo.
“It really is a mental thing with us at some points within a match. We need to believe we can compete at that next level. We are a good team, but we really need to step up to get to that next tier.”
The Panthers were led by Michele Felix with six kills and four blocks while Maria Jose Alanis had five kills and three blocks. Libero C.C. Weir had 15 digs, and Emily O’Donnell, according to Bassler, did a nice job serving.
“Our team played really hard at times and played them point for point for stretches,” Bassler said. “We would just get into a rut here and there, or Pennsbury stepped up their aggressive play, and those runs hurt us.”
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-8)
Rachel Clow had a big night at the net for the Patriots with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .352 to go along with nine digs. She had an even bigger night at the service line, serving for 24 points – which included nine aces.
Illana Bershtein led the defense with eight digs while teammate Madi Staub had four kills (a .375 hitting percentage), three blocks and six digs. Courtney Kauffman added six kills and boasted a hitting percentage of .545. Colleen Lane had five kills.
For the Indians, who were battling injuries, Megan Miller had an impressive defensive showing, contributing 20 digs.
“She was on fire,” Souderton coach Marlena Musselman said.
Bekah Ford led the way at the net with three kills and two stuff blocks while Alexa Kluka had two kills. Cori Watson had seven assists.
“With various injuries and lineup changes, Souderton came out fresh and energized against CB East at home tonight,” Musselman said. “They fought for the first two games but unfortunately lost the energy in game three, but they looked like a whole new team.”
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, NORRISTOWN 0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-13)
Anna Waltz led the Colonials at the net with eight kills and one block to go along with one ace and four digs. Giovanna Jenkins added six kills, four digs, four aces and one block. Cara Sweeney had three kills and seven blocks. Monica McLenigan led the defense with eight digs, and teammate Ryan Haney had six digs. Tori Biggins contributed three aces and 11 assists, and Riley Hellings had 15 assists and one ace and one dig. Liz Keefer contributed five digs, two kills, two blocks and one ace. Michele Taunton had two kills and Emily Houck, one kill.
WISSAHICKON 3, ABINGTON 1 (25-22, 26-24, 12-25, 25-22)
Deanna Bianchini and Tara Rodgers each contributed 10 kills to lead the Trojans to the big win. Rodgers also served for nine straight points in helping the Trojans to the victory. The Trojans, according to coach Michelle Copelli, played their best match of the season so far, fighting hard to pull out the win.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-6, 25-9, 25-14)
Carly Black had a big night for the Hatters, contributing 13 kills, four aces and seven digs. Lauren Laucella added eight kills and three blocks while Kathryn Luca had nine kills. Sam Jones had five aces and 19 assists, and Candyce Riley had 11 assists.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, BENSALEM 0
Katie Quinn had seven kills, four aces and five blocks to lead the Golden Hawks. Danielle Bradley led the team in assists.
QUAKERTOWN 3, PENNRIDGE 1 (Wednesday, Sept. 21)
Geena Close contributed 20 assists, six kills, five aces and five digs to lead the Panthers to the win. Teammate Meghan Lopes had 10 assists, four kills and one ace while Lydia O’Neal had eight kills, three blocks and one ace. Ava Haekler and Anna Mease both added seven kills. Mease also had four aces. Sophie Butler had four kills, two blocks and two aces. Adraiana had 15 digs and one ace.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1(25-10, 25-13, 21-25, 25-17) (Wednesday, Sept. 21)
The Titans won a exciting match against their neighboring rival on Wednesday night.
“It was awesome,” South coach Ulana Keer said. “First, I am happy to see great volleyball at West, and it makes me proud to see that my old school that I coached at years ago has a great coach who is working hard with his athletes.”
Keer went on to praise her team, which she said, has put hours in the gym at South and other club gyms around the country.
“Volleyball is a sport that takes determination, stamina, focus both mentally and physically, and there is no sport that compares,” the Titans’ coach said. “Defense was amazing on both teams. Long rallies ensued, and great volleyball was occurring.”
Freshman Kaitlyn Kushman contributed 37 assists and four aces. Jayne Mulhern led the defense with 17 digs and four kills. Meghan Kaminski led the Titans with 14 kills to go along with one ace while Abby Mummert added 12 kills. Giuli Frendak ahd seven kills and one ace, and Jill Danyluk had five kills. Lauren Wise added one kill.
