MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Millersville University’s Kevin Diflorio (Hatboro-Horsham) placed 52nd out of 141 runners at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday. Teammate Seth Hibbs (Hatboro-Horsham) also competed. Millersville finished fifth in the 12-team race.
Chestnut Hill senior Owen Ward (Harry S Truman) crossed the line in 51st place with a time of 31:37.68 on the five-mile course at the Jack St. Clair Memorial Meet on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins finished with 229 team points to place ninth.
Widener freshman Jason Caporale (Neshaminy) finished with a time of 29:36.38 at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday.
Gwynedd-Mercy’s James Rogers (Cheltenham) finished 31st with a time of 28:06 at the DeSales Invitational on Friday. The men’s squad raced to a third place showing in the ‘Blue’ race, which featured 22 teams.
Ursinus College junior Sam Stortz (Upper Dublin) finished 13th overall with a time of 26:55.01 in the DeSales Invitational on Satuday.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Kutztown University’s Jill Kostishion (Pennridge) completed the course in 26:23.27 at Saturday’s DeSales Bulldog Invitational. Kutztown finished second overall in the team competition with 98 points, behind only Dickinson College (70 points).
Millersville University’s Michelle Blum (Central Bucks East) finished 24th with a time of 24:27.7 in the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday. Teammate Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) placed 64th. Millersville placed fifth in the 12-team field and third among PSAC schools in the race.
FIELD HOCKEY
Senior Casey McCartin (Hatboro-Horsham) tallied a career-high three assists in No. 6 Penn State’s 7-2 win over Villanova last Tuesday. Wildcat goalie Megan Goelz (Pennsbury) recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Junior Becca Chylack (Souderton) scored both goals in La Salle’s 2-1 win over Sacred Heart. She moved into 7th place on the La Salle career points list and 10th on the goals list.
Junior Amanda Fleischut (Central Bucks West) contributed an assist in Drexel’s 2-1 win over William and Mary on Friday night.
Senior Casey Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) scored four goals in Gwynedd-
Mercy’s 16-1 win over Cedar Crest on Saturday. Teammate Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) finished with the hat trick. In Tuesday night’s 4-0 win over Neumann, Dellostretto and Karidas each contributed a goal and an assist.
Goalkeeper Brittany Varacallo (Central Bucks South) played 35 scoreless minutes in the first half of Shippensburg’s 4-1 win over Slippery Rock on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 4-2 Senior Day win over Mansfield, Varacallo had two saves in the second half.
Junior Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) contributed a pair of assists in Rider’s 6-0 win over Bryant on Sunday. She now has 12 assists in 12 games this season, third best in the nation. In Rider’s 8-0 win over Siena College on Friday afternoon, Schneider contributed two goals and an assist. She now has eight goals on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Central Bucks East) had seven saves in 10th-ranked Ursinus College’s 1-0 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Haverford in a key Centennial Conference game, Lukens had nine saves.
Rensselaer sophomore Kierstan Ryan (Harry S Truman) scored the first goal of the game in Rensselaer’s 3-2 loss to 17th-ranked William Smith on Saturday.
Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) and teammate Shannon Syciarz combined for a shutout in goal in The College of New Jersey’s 4-0 win over Neumann on Saturday.
Freshman Hannah Heritage (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist in Elizabethtown’s 6-1 win over Gettysburg on Wednesday.
Freshman Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist on teh first goal of the game in Yale's 3-2 upset of No. 14 Northwestern on Sunday on the Wildcats' home turf. Yale is 5-6 on the season with four of its losses coming at the hands of teams ranked in the top 15.
FOOTBALL
Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) had three catches for 30 yards and returned a kickoff 33 yards in No. 2 Bloomsburg’s 45-10 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
Freshman Craig Needhammer (North Penn) had 12 carries for 79 yards in Lycoming's 42-10 win over Kings College on Saturday. As a result of the win, Lycoming improved to 4-1 on the season.
Dan McClellan (Neshaminy) intercepted a pass in Millersville’s 24-6 loss to C.W. Post on Saturday.
Pete Pianchi (Upper Merion) received a trick backwards pass from Jake Ziegler and took it 57 yards in Lebanon Valley’s 24-17 win over Albright on Saturday.
Placekicker Shawn Leo (Souderton) was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points and kicked a 37-yard field goal in West Chester’s 52-17 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. Red Raider sophomore Jake Metz (Souderton) recorded a sack.
Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) was honored as the PSAC East Offensive Player of the week for his performance in Kutztown’s 49-32 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Mastromatto set a school record after he returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown late in the first half. He is the 17th player in PSAC history to return a kickoff 100 yards and the first since 2008. His kickoff came with 1:39 left in the first half after the Warriors had pulled to within eight points. Mastromatto totaled a career-high 291 all-purpose yards in the victory, 17 short of the school record. He rushed for 96 yards on six carries, including a 50-yard clincher in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for ESU. He also had 57 receiving yards and has become one of Kutztown’s most consistent players, scoring 18 touchdowns in the last 17 games.
Quarterback Kevin Morton (Abington) completed 27-of-30 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns in Kutztown’s 49-32 win over ESU. He also rushed for a season-high 56 yards including a 47-yard run on the second play of the third quarter. He now has 19 TD passes this season and has thrown two or more TD passes in a game in 20 of his last 23 games. Alex DiNolfi (Norristown) intercepted a pass in the game. He leads KU with five interceptions this year.
MEN’S GOLF
Sophomore Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) carded a 77-79=156 (+16) to tie for 7th in the Big 5 Invitational at Plymouth Country Club. Overall, La Salle placed 20th with a 314-320=634.
Temple sophomore Russell Hartung (Central Bucks East) rounded out the Owls’ top five by shooting an 83 in the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational on Saturday at Plymouth Country Club.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury freshman Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot a 178 in the Williams Fall Invitational on Sunday. Middlebury ended its fall season with a second place finish among 12 teams at the invitational.
MEN’S SOCCER
Freshman goalkeeper Sean Murphy (North Penn) was credited with six saves, including several from point blank range, in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 upset of No. 12 Mercyhurst in PSAC action on Wednesday night. Mercyhurst held a 23-12 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. On Saturday, Murphy had six saves and surrendered only a penalty kick goal in East Stroudsburg’s 2-1 win over Gannon. It was the Warriors third straight PSAC win. East Stroudsburg - which lost five starters, including four All-Region players from last year’s team that reached the PSAC final – now has a chance to qualify for its second straight trip to the PSAC Tournament.
Nick Becker (Council Rock North) netted his first goal in La Salle’s 2-0 win over Dayton to open the Atlantic 10 season on Friday night. On Sunday, Jeff Pio (William Tennent) scored a goal in La Salle’s 2-2 tie in double overtime with No. 23 Xavier.
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) made four saves in goal to record his second shutout of the season in Shippensburg’s 2-0 win over No. 20 West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday.
Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Bloomsburg’s 4-3 loss to Gannon University on Wednesday.
A corner kick by Sean Pekham (Central Bucks East) set up the game’s lone goal in Lafayette’s 1-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday night.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Jamie Vaniver (Council Rock South) scored a goal to break a scoreless tie in Bloomsburg’s 3-1 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
Jen Hutchinson (Neshaminy) scored a goal in the second half of West Chester’s 2-0 win over IUP on Saturday afternoon. Last Tuesday, Hutchinson connected on a first-half goal in West Chester’s 3-0 win over Holy Family.
Freshman Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) scored on a breakaway in Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Bloomfield on Saturday. The goal was her fourth of the season.
Melissa Kornock (North Penn) contributed an assist in IPU’s 3-0 win over Millersville on Wednesday. In Monday’s 2-2 draw with third-ranked Cal, Kornock scored the tying goal in the 87th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Wood (Central Bucks South) made her second start of the season in 
Shippensburg’s 3-1 win over Mansfield on Saturday.
Redshirt junior Tara Murphy (Council Rock South) made stops on four shots to collect her third shutout of the season in Temple’s 1-0 win over George Washington on Sunday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Penn State University’s Christopher Hasyn (North Penn) and teammate Taylor Cohen earned a dramatic 9-7 win in the Flight ‘B’ doubles competition in the consolation bracket semifinal at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational on Friday. In Flight ‘C’ singles action, Hasyn defeated Farleigh Dickinson’s Dom Hemy (7-5, 6-0) in the first round of consolation play and then earned a semifinal victory over Mark Millbrandt from the University of Pennsylvania (6-4, 7-6). Hasyn fell in the consolation final (1-6, 7-6, 7-6).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Allison Bean (Neshaminy) was part of East Stroudsburg’s second doubles team that earned an 8-6 win in Tuesday’s 6-3 loss to Dickinson.
Junior Regina Doherty (William Tennent) earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at number six singles in Chestnut Hill’s 9-0 win over the University of the Sciences on Saturday. In Thursday’s 9-0 win over Rider, Doherty was part of the third doubles team that earned an 8-2 win.
Sophomore Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) earned a 2-1 win at first singles in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 6-2 win over Millersville last Tuesday. She also was part of the first doubles team that notched an 8-4 win. Teammate Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at third singles. In Friday’s 9-0 win over Rosemont, Fein earned wins at first singles (6-0, 6-1) and first doubles (8-0) while Michener had wins at third singles (6-2, 6-0) and second doubles (8-2). In Saturday’s 9-0 win over Cedar Crest, Fein had wins at first singles (6-0, 6-0) and first doubles (8-1), and Michener had wins at third singles (6-1, 6-1) and second doubles (8-4). In Sunday’s 5-4 win over Marywood, Fein also earned wins at first singles (6-1, 6-0) and first doubles (8-1).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Devon Maugle (Pllymouth Whitemarsh) recorded 16 kills in UConn’s 3-2 loss to South Florida on Friday night.
Sophomore Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) contributed five kills in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 3-0 non-league loss to Moravian on Friday night. On Saturday, Aileen Reilly (Pennsbury) contributed 10 digs in Gwynedd’s 3-0 CSAC win over Notre Dame on Saturday morning.
Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) generated 11 kills on 22 swings with just two errors for Lebanon Valley in Saturday’s Knights Fall Fever Quad at Neumann University. Lebanon Valley won the quad match, earning a 3-0 win over Frostburg State and a 3-0 win over Bridgewater.
Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) contributed six kills, three assists and two digs in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday..
Franklin & Marshall freshman Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) was named Centennial Conference Volleyball Player of the Week as well as the ECAC Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3. This is the first CC weekly honor for Harvey and the first for the Diplomats since Nov. 8, 2010. It is also her first ECAC weekly honor. Harvey led the Diplomats to a 5-0 record last week, including CC wins over Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore and victories against Ithaca, Marywood and Frostburg State in the F&M Scramble. She recorded a .406 hitting percentage and tallied 72 kills, 16 digs, 15 blocks and four service aces for the week. Against Swarthmore on Wednesday, Harvey dominated with 27 kills and just three errors on 49 attempts for a hitting percentage of .490. She was also named MVP of the F&M Scramble.
Harvey recorded the first double-double of her F&M career with 15 kills and 10 digs in the Diplomats’ 3-1 win over Haverford on Sunday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Johns Hopkins, Harvey had six kills in nine attempts. The loss snapped a seven-match winning streak for the Diplomats.
