Jayne Mulhern is captain of Central Bucks South’s volleyball team that has clinched the SOL Continental Conference crown. The senior libero, a rare four-year varsity starter, is the unsung hero of the Titans’ ascent to the top of the standings. Mulhern has the thankless task of digging opposing team’s kills. “She’s a very smart player,” coach Ulana Keer said. “She’s technically very good in her stance, and she’s always ready to receive the ball. She’s always in position. To be a defensive-minded player is always number one in my book. A kid that always is willing to put herself on the ground and go after balls – that says a lot about her character. That’s not an easy job.”
Keer estimates that Mulhern has accounted for between two and three thousand digs over the course of a standout career. “Defense wins games,” Keer said. “Defense is the best answer to a great offense. There is nothing better for our team than Jayne digging the best hitters in the league. This sends a strong message to opposing teams that she means business. Jayne is all about business – talking to her teammates, leading them on where to go with positioning and how to be prepared.”
Mulhern also excels off the volleyball court. She is a member of Key Club and POPS (Power of Positive Students). An honors student who is a member of the National Honor Society, Mulhern carries a course load that is filled with AP and honors classes. She plans to major in biology with her sights set on becoming a dentist, a career she chose after shadowing her dentist at Jefferson Hospital this summer as her graduation project.

Stefan Dasbach leads by example as the senior captain of a Wissahickon soccer team that is in first place in the American Conference standings. “He leads by what he does, not necessarily what he says,” coach Stuart Malcolm said. “He has been a steady influence on many of the younger players on the squad. He is willing to do the little things in practice that show the squad how to prepare for games.”Dasbach anchors the Trojans’ defense at center back. “He’s a very smart player, and we can play him in any position,” Malcolm said. “He’s so good at organizing the rest of the team, so he’s stayed in that defensive role. He reads the game very well. He strikes the ball very well and puts dangerous balls into the box. He’s an offensive threat too.”
Dashbach, who has been playing soccer since he was six years old, plays club soccer for a Penn Fusion squad that placed second at the national championships last summer.
Dasbach is co-president of the Foreign Language Society, but one of his favorite clubs is FANS, a designated group of fans who go to games dressed alike and represent Wissahickon’s school spirit.
A member of the National Honor Society, Dasbach has a course load that includes numerous AP and honors classes. He hopes to continue playing soccer at the next level. His top college choice is Stanford, which he says would be a ‘reach.’ He also is considering Carnegie Mellon, Columbia and Penn. Dasbach is planning to major in computer science.
