In August, Council Rock South senior Alex Wheatley made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the Princeton University.

Reasons for choosing Princeton: “Princeton seemed like a perfect fit. I was looking for very strong academics and very strong basketball, and Princeton is kind of hard to beat. It felt pretty perfect.
“Addie Micir (a Council Rock North alum who had a stellar career at Princeton) was actually an important part in my recruiting process. She was the local kid – she went to North, and we have gotten to know her family pretty well.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball? “I think I had always hoped to play basketball in college. During the majority of my serious basketball playing, starting in sixth or seventh grade, I played up a year, so it was always very interesting because two years ago I was a sophomore when all of my teammates were juniors. That’s the big year in the recruiting process, so I always got to see what the next step would be like before I got there. It’s an interesting process. It can be a little overwhelming. It’s good to go through it, and it’s even better once you choose a school and you know that’s the one for you.”
Council Rock South coach Monica Stolic says: “I started coaching (at CR South) when she was a freshman, and it’s such a pleasure to coach her. She’s so athletic, and the things she does on the court – you’re like ‘Wow,’ and that’s how she is as a person. She’s genuine, and she’s real. I have been coaching a long time – all my years at Conwell Egan and Neshaminy, and I was an assistant at the college level, and I don’t think I’ve ever coached an athlete like her. She gets it. She’s a hard worker – she’s the first one in the gym and the last one to leave. She’s a wonderful teammate, always encouraging them and helping them out if they need help. She’s just a joy to coach. You tell her to do something, and she’s like, ‘Yes, coach.’ She’s very, very humble. There aren’t too many people like that.
“On the basketball court, she can do it all. She played on the Nike National Team this year behind a girl that’s going to UConn, so she was playing with these top Division One players. She can hit three’s, and I think she really has improved since last year.”
