CHELTENHAM GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Head Coach:  Bob Schaefer (31 years, 731-159 career record)

Assistant coaches:  John Rogalski      JV: Ashley Webster       9th Grade/Asst. JV: Nicole Pender   

History:  The Cheltenham Lady Panthers have been a consistent power in the PIAA AAAA Suburban I League, District I, and State.  They have won state championships in 2000 and 2007. 

Last Year:  In the 2010-2011 season, they were Suburban I Liberty Division Champions for the 23rd time in the past 25 years. They were eliminated in the 2nd round of the state playoffs with a record of 24-5. 

 Players Lost:  The Lady Panthers graduated 3 seniors: 

  1. Tiffany Johnson (West Chester University)
  2. Austen Hamler
  3.  Asia Dan

Returning players:

  1. Ciara Andrews (St. Joe U.)   2011 1st Team All-State, 1st Team SOL
  2. Christina Coleman – 1st team SOL
  3. Shayla Peoples -2nd Team SOL
  4. Jiana Clark who played 6th man last year
  5. Ming Seawright.                                                     All 5 starters are Seniors. 

Other players who fill out the Lady Panther lineup:

Seniors:  Jovon Petty and Kristina Nalley

Juniors Sariah Robinson, Sabrina Casseus & Taylor Wing

Sophomore: Kelly Graham

Freshmen:  Rebecca Simms & Amarri Trueheart

Strengths:  The Lady Panther have a solid starting lineup of Seniors who have seen plenty of action last season.  They have speed and hope to play a fast transitional game.  

Question marks:  Depth:  Bench has limited experience.

Outlook:  The Lady Panthers expect to have a challenging and successful season.  They hope to be in the hunt in the SOL American Division, District I and State Playoffs.
