CENTRAL BUCKS EAST BOYS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW
Head Coach: Erik Henrysen, 2nd yr
Assistant coaches: Michael Haney, Ed Dixon, John Zalucki, Brian Yannarella, Jimmy Katasak
Last year’s record: 11-12 overall; 7-7 SOL, 1st round District loss to Neshaminy
Notable losses: DJ Beausejour (Centenary), Justin Van Houten (Penn State-Altoona), Scott Shields
Key returners: Steven Topley (12/Guard/Co-Captain), Ryan O’Neil (12/Forward/3rd Team All- League), Matt Stauffer (11/Forward), Liam Gallagher (12/Guard/Co-Captain), Lou Pannella (12/Forward)
Others to watch: Mark Kiersnowski (12/Guard), Kevin Phelps (11/Forward), Brendan McLaughlin (10/Guard)
Strengths: Team chemistry is our biggest strength as our guys spend most of their time together on and off the court. The team values hard work, and they are really a group of throwback “gym rats.” Steven Topley has developed into one of the better guards in the league. Ryan O’Neil and Matt Stauffer’s athleticism are second to none.
Question Marks: Matt Stauffer is recovering from off-season ACL surgery on his knee. He is fully cleared to play. Beyond our starting five, personnel question marks remain as we are looking for guys to earn playing time and a spot in the rotation.
Outlook: All five starters for this year’s team have extensive varsity playing time experience. Although last season had a good stretch of success, the team is not satisfied with the way the season ended. This year we are looking toward improving on our consistency with an experienced group of seniors. There is a very large task ahead of us with the difficult schedule in place. Non-League games include playing away at Cheltenham, Archbishop Ryan, Spring-Ford, and then three difficult games in a Florida holiday tournament. Non-League home games include Upper Dublin and Wissahickon.
