2011 Hatboro-Horsham Boys' BB Preview

HATBORO-HORSHAM BOYS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Dennis Steinly (6th year)

Assistant coaches:  Peter Chimera, Anish Nair, Bryan Martin, Blake Rubenstein, Mark Milnazik, Bell Delaney

Last year’s record:  9-13

Notable losses:  Travis (DeSales University), Matt Kane (Wagner University), Shane Cummings (Montgomery County Community College)

Key returners:  Bobby Bruno (Sr., Forward), Ryan Kelly (Jr., Guard), Mike Brown (Jr., Guard), Zach Quattro (Soph., Forward)

Others to watch:  Mike Vogel (Sr., Guard), Paul Haggerty (Sr., Guard), Chad Gill (Sr., Forward), Dillan Schindewolf (Sr., Forward), Amrit Singh (Sr., Forward), Jack Lavery (Jr., Guard), Jack Wingen (Soph., Guard)

Strengths:  This has been a great group to work with. They are very coachable and work hard. That said, we are fortunate to have some good size overall and some experience inside. Many of the players made significant improvement in the off-season, and we’re excited to see how we measure up. We continue to emphasize defense and rebounding, so we consider them strengths that we can count on to keep us in games.

Question marks:  We have very little game experience in our backcourt and a lot of untested players will be asked to contribute immediately.

Outlook:  We look forward to competing in the Continental Conference where every team has a chance every night. If we can stay healthy, we feel confident we can challenge the top teams (Souderton, CB East and CB West). We open our season at home in our annual Hatters Basketball Tipoff Tournament with Upper Dublin, Perk Valley and Lansdale Catholic.

An event we’re looking forward to is the Coach Ozzie Ostrowski Classic on Friday, December 23. The doubleheader that night features Norristown vs. Germantown Academy at 6 p.m., followed by Archbishop Carroll vs. H-H. Proceeds from this event go to assist a local family battling cancer.
