MEN’S BASKETBALL
Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh)
dished out seven assists in Randolph-Macon’s 78-67 win over Averett on Monday.

Freshman guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 10 points in East Stroudsburg’s 79-65 win over the University of the Sciences on Monday.

Julian Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) connected on a pair of three’s and scored 12 points in Lock Haven’s 76-67 loss to Urbana last Sunday. On Monday, Bond, hit a pair of three’s and added two rebounds in Lock Haven’s 78-53 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan. He also had a team-high five assists.

Senior guard Dan DelConte (Wissahickon) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 18. DelConte has a personal milestone in last Tuesday’s 88-78 win over Rowan, netting his 1,000th career point en route to a game-high 28 points. He went 8-for-13 shooting with a 10-for-13 stint at the free throw line. In 34 minutes of action, he also chipped in four assists, three rebounds and hit 2-of-4 attempts from downtown. He leads the CSAC in scoring (22.7) PPG) and is ranked 16th in Division III in that category. He also is first in free throw percentage (66-79, 83.5 percent) and is ranked third in assists per game (4.0).

CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a career-high 20 points to help St. Joseph’s win its fourth straight as the Hawks defeated Coppin State 81-72 on Wednesday. Aiken shot 7-for-10 from the field.

Cabrini sophomore Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was named the CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 18. Rafferty was an integral part of #10 Cabrini’s 71-68 comeback win against the University of Scranton. Rafferty narrowly missed his first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Eight of Rafferty’s points came during an 11-4 Cabrini run with 14 minutes to play in the game. The burst came with the Cavaliers trailing by 13 points, their largest deficit of the season. On the season, the sophomore is Cabrini’s fourth leading scorer, averaging 10.9 points per game on 55.2 percent shooting, including 40.7 percent from beyond the three-point line. For the first time in school history, Cabrini has entered the Top 10. The most recent D3hoops.com pool, released Dec. 20, ranks the Cavaliers as the 10th best in the country. The Blue and White are 8-0.

University of Texas freshman forward Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 19. The voting was conducted by a panel of media covering Big 12 men’s basketball. Bond averaged 15.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while converting 15-of-19 (.789) field goals in UT’s wins last week over Nicholls State (Dec. 13) and Temple (Dec. 17). He produced Texas’ first double-double of the season against Nicholls State as he posted career highs of 18 points (9-of-12 FG) and 12 rebounds (eight offensive). Bond added two assists and a steal in a 93-40 win over the Colonels. Bond helped Texas to a 77-65 victory over Temple last Saturday with 12 points (6-of-7 field goals) and eight rebounds (four offensive). For the year, Bond is averaging 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds (fourth on team) per game and has converted 25-of-38 (.658) field goals. In Wednesday’s 82-63 loss to No. 5 North Carolina, Bond contributed six points and nine rebounds. Bond has pulled down 29 rebounds in his last three games.    

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Redshirt freshman Emily Leer (Abington) scored a career-best 13 points in Villanova’s 56-47 win over Temple on Tuesday. She also chipped in with a team-best six rebounds and three blocks. The win was the Wildcats’ sixth straight.
Julie Hahn (Central Bucks South) returned to the starting lineup after suffering an injury just 12 minutes into the season opener in Alvernia’s 56-50 loss to Randolph-Macon in San Juan Puerto Rico last Sunday. She contributed nine points.

Shakia Robinson (North Penn) contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in the UMass women’s basketball team’s 64-55 win over Binghamton on Monday. In Wednesday’s 58-53 win at Siena, Robinson had eight rebounds and three assists.

Sophia Waters (Norristown) scored a team-high 15 points in Millersville’s 72-52 win over Wilmington (Del.) on Monday. Teammate Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) led the Marauders with seven assists and four steals.

Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) contributed her first career double-double in American University’s 63-48 win over Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday. Kiely contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) scored a team-high 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting with eight rebounds in Walsh University’s 68-61 loss to Southwestern College on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Natasha Matthews (Norristown) scored a career-high 13 points off the bench in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 80-74 loss to Richard Stockton on Tuesday.

FOOTBALL
Syracuse junior offensive tackle Justin Pugh (Council Rock South) earned first team All-Big East honors. He also received CBSSports.com and ESPN.com All-Big East team honors and Phil Steele’s Postseason All-Big East Second team honors. Pugh has started in all 25 games in his career and has blocked for 1,000-yard rushers in 2010 and 2011, including Antwon Bailey this season. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-Big East second team.

Kutztown University senior Brett Moss (Bensalem) was honored as the Powerrated.com All-Bilo Player of the Year on the defensive line while teammate Alex DiNolfi (Norristown) earned the honor for his play in the defensive backfield. Both already had been named to the Daktronics All-Super Region One and All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference teams. Moss made an immediate impact in his first season with the Golden Bears. He set a school record for sacks in a season with 18.5, a total that also led Division II. Moss was part of a KU defense that allowed less than 14 points in five of its last seven games. He was fourth on the team with 66 total tackles and led KU with 24.5 tackles for a loss. Moss had a season-high four sacks in KU’s playoff victory over Concord on Nov. 19 and had three in KU’s 24-0 win over West Chester on Oct. 28.
DiNolfi had a record-breaking junior season with 11 interceptions on the year. He now has 15 interceptions in his career. DiNolfi sits atop the NCAA in total interceptions and is second in interceptions per game (0.85). He was third on the team with 68 tackles and had five pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. DiNolfi had multiple interceptions in three games this season (Cheyney, West Chester, Concord). The duo helped KU set a school record for victories in a season (11) while winning its first PSAC championship and NCAA playoff game. The team’s six PSAC East victories tied the school mark set last season.
Kutztown also matched its best final ranking in school history by earning 13th in the final American Football Coaches Association Top 25. Kevin Morton (Abington), All-PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year, established a school record this season by throwing at least one touchdown pass in 21 straight games and passed for a school record 458 yards against CW Post. The Golden Bears led Division II in kickoff returns with an average of 27.73 yards/return with Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) leading the way with a 29.54 return average that ranked him seventh. Behind Morton, who rates fourth overall, Kutztown is 10th in pass efficiency (154.96). KU also ranks 10th in total offense (465.23 yards/game) and 12th in scoring (37.46 points/game). Additionally, Kutztown set school records for points (487), passing touchdowns (410), total touchdowns (68), rushing yards (2,576) and total offense (6,048).
