MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 12 points to lead East Stroudsburg in its 75-61 loss to Kutztown on Saturday.

Sophomore Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored 11 points in #13 Cabrini’s 64-52 win over Marywood on Saturday.

Cameron Prince (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 13 points in Alvernia’s 71-64 loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Jeff Bishop (Souderton) scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds in Philadelphia Biblical’s 107-72 loss to Keystone on Monday. In Thursday’s 61-59 loss to Marywood, Bishop scored 16 points.

Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored nine of his 11 points in the first half of Bloomsburg’s 83-61 win over Cheyney on Saturday.

Guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) poured in a season-best 35 points to lead Philadelphia University to its fifth straight win, an 86-75 win over Post University on Saturday. He shot 11-of-17 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

Senior Dan DelConte (Wissahickon) led all scorers with 24 points and added eight assists in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 83-50 win over Centenary on Wednesday.

Junior guard Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting to pace Temple, but it was not enough as the defending Atlantic 10 champion Richmond Spiders posted a 76-65 win on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 72-67 win over St. Louis, Wyatt was a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc and shot 9-of-13 from the field on his way to scoring a game-high 22 points.

Wyatt was named the Atlantic 10 Conference and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8. It is the first Player of the Week accolade of his career. The 6-4 Norristown alum averaged 25 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.0 assists in leading the Owls to a 1-1 week. Wyatt scored a game-high 22 points (8-12, 3-5 3pt) and made a career-high five steals in Temple’s 78-73 upset of #3/5 Duke. He followed that with a career-high 28 points, making a career-best five three-pointers (10 attempts) in Temple’s 87-77 loss to Dayton. He also scored 11 of his points in the final 3:15 in an attempt to rally the Owls. For the season, Wyatt ranks second on the Owls and seventh in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with a 15.8 average. He leads the team in three-point percentage (27-66, .409) and steals (2.0 SPG), ranking fifth in the league in that category.

Sophomore CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in St. Joe’s 71-62 loss to UMass on Saturday. In St. Joe’s 80-62 win over Fordham on Wednesday, Aiken contributed 15 points and eight blocked shots.

Freshman Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored seven points in Shippensburg’s 67-66 loss to Bloomsburg in its PSAC East opener on Wednesday. He connected on three-of-three shots from the field.

Nick Resig (Council Rock North) scored eight points in King’s College’s 78-67 loss to DeSales on Wednesday. Michael Guldin (Pennridge) scored two points for DeSales.

Freshman Steve Schneider (Central Bucks South) scored a career-high 15 points in Alvernia’s 71-64 loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Andrew Stress (Council Rock South) contributed 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in Fairleigh Dickinson’s 70-61 win over Misericordia on Saturday. On Monday, Stress scored eight points and had four rebounds in Fairleigh Dickinson’s 53-49 loss to Staten Island.

Sophomore point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) had 11 points in Ursinus College’s 63-51 win over McDaniel College on Saturday.

Freshman Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to collect his eighth double-double of the season in Penn State Abington’s 77-67 win over Cazenovia College on Saturday.

AJ Picard (Souderton) scored 14 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 65-61 win over the University of the Sciences on Wednesday.

Justin Van Houten (Central Bucks East) contributed 11 points and six rebounds in Penn State Altoona’s 72-66 loss to Hilbert last Saturday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin)
contributed 16 points, five assists and four steals in Millersville’s 61-59 loss to West Chester on Saturday. Teammate Sophia Waters (Norristown) added 12 points.

Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 11 points in Neumann University’s 73-46 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday.

Brittany Kaewell (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points in Penn State Altoona’s 62-52 win over Medaille College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 69-50 win over Franciscan, Kaewell contributed 12 points. In last Sunday’s 51-38 win over Hilbert, Kaewell scored a game-high 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. In last Saturday’s 66-60 win over Pitt-Bradford, Kaewell had 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Sam Simononis (Pennridge) scored eight points in Vermont’s 69-63 loss to New Hampshire on Saturday.

Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) contributed six points and four rebounds in American University’s 61-58 win over Holy Cross. The win gives the Eagles a 3-0 record in Patriot League play. In Wednesday’s 55-49 win over Lehigh, Kiely shared game scoring honors with 12 points and also pulled down a team and career-high 12 rebounds. It was her second career double-double.

Sophomore Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) scored a career-high 21 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe in Walsh College’s 58-52 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. On Tuesday, Ciccarone scored 16 points in Walsh’s 74-70 overtime win over Houghton. She connected on 7-of-11 from the field and also added six rebounds and five assists.

Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points to help lead Haverford to a 50-43 overtime win over McDaniel College on Thursday. In Haverford’s 53-44 win over Dickinson on Tuesday, Miller contributed nine points and eight rebounds to lead the Fords.

Freshman Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed 11 points and nine rebounds in DelVal’s 83-65 win over Wilkes on Wednesday.

Junior Shakia Robinson (North Penn) contributed six points and five rebounds in the University of Massachusetts’ 73-54 loss to Richmond on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 46-39 win over Rhode Island, Robinson contributed a team-best four assists as well as six rebounds.

Senior Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) scored a season-high nine points and dished out a team-best six assists in Holy Family’s 96-76 win over Georgian Court on Thursday.

Sophomore Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was selected as CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8. Sandone paced the Cavaliers’ offense, averaging 14.7 points, four rebounds, 2.3 assists and one steal in 31 minutes of action. In Cabrini’s 67-38 win over Susquehanna, the sophomore recorded season highs in points and rebounds with 22 and eight. She also recorded five assists and two steals. Sandone also led the Cavaliers with 13 points and three steals in Thursday’s loss at Widener. Sandone scored all nine of her points in the second half of Cabrini’s loss to Immaculata. For the season, Sandone leads Cabrini with 11.6 points per game. Her 2.2 assists per game ranks second. Defensively, Sandone swipes a team-high 2.0 steals per game.

Freshman Gabrielle Benedict (Central Bucks West) contributed 12 points and seven rebounds while teammate Kate Schaick (William Tennent) added eight rebounds and six points in Penn State Abington’s 57-55 loss to Wilson College on Wednesday night.

Heather McHugh (Norristown) scored four points and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds and had two blocks in Lock Haven’s 59-46 win over Slippery Rock on Wednesday.

Senior Bryn Cotteta (Norristown) scored a career-high 26 points in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 84-71 CSAC win over Centenary Wednesday night. The win was the fourth in a row for the Griffins. Teammate Natasha Matthews (Norristown) chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench. On Monday, Matthews scored a career-high 17 points in Gwynedd’s 80-25 win over Notre Dame (Md.). Cotteta dished out six assists while Liza Leves (Upper Dublin) pulled down a personal-high nine rebounds.

Cotteta was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Honor Roll for the week ending Jan. 8. The senior guard averaged 13.0 points and three assists for the Griffins in a 2-1 week. Against SUNY-Oneonta, she posted 17 points, six assists and five rebounds before going for 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting in a win over Southeastern University. In the Griffins’ win over Rosemont, she scored 17 points, going 7-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. On the season, she averages 10.4 points, 3.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds while shooting just under 48 percent from the floor.

Ashley Rosario (Harry S. Truman) scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 72-68 win over the University of the Sciences on Tuesday.

MEN’S SWIMMING
Freshman TJ Guminski (Hatboro-Horsham) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.21) and the 50-yard freestyle (23.89) in Lycoming’s 139-56 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Senior CJ Corcoran (Souderton) won the 200 (2:02.46) and 500 free (5:37.67) in Washington and Jefferson’s sweep of Bethany (64-23) and Franciscan (64-33) in a double-dual meet on Wednesday.

Freshman Jan Ikeda (North Penn) broke one of the oldest marks remaining in Lebanon Valley’s record books, winning the 200 freestyle in Lebanon Valley’s 136-99 loss to Misericordia on Wednesday with a time of 2:01.51 to break the record of 2:01.81 set in 1991. She also won the 100 fly in 59.04. In Saturday’s 139-56 loss to Lycoming, Ikeda set the eighth individual record of her young career, breaking the 200-yard fly mark of 2:26.02 by nearly 10 seconds to win in 2:16.11. She now owns all four Lebanon Valley butterfly records. She also won the 100 fly in 59.72.

Alexis Alexander (Neshaminy) finished third in the 100 free with a time of 1:02.68 in Messiah’s 157-41 win over FDU on Saturday. She also finished second in the 200 free (2:16.07) and was part of Messiah’s winning 400 free relay (4:11.59).

Freshman Melissa Smith (Pennsbury) won the 500 free in a time of 5:47.07 in East Stroudsburg’s 121-82 dual win over Ramapo on Saturday. She also was part of the second place 200 free relay (1:52.51) and fourth place 200 medley relay (2:09.70). On Wednesday, she finished third in the 200 free with a time of 2:11.73 in East Stroudsburg’s 102-74 dual loss to CW Post. She also finished fourth in the 100 free (1:00.76) and was part of the 200 free relay that finished fourth with a time of 1:56.80.

La Salle senior Laurie McLaughlin (North Penn) finished second in the diving competition at the Rhode Island Invitational on Saturday, placing second in the 1-meter dive (228.95). The Explorers won the invitational.

Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) won the 100 fly with a time of 55.09) and also finished first in the 50 free with a time of 23.44 in Maryland’s sweep of all three opponents in a quadrangle meet at Pittsburgh on Friday and Saturday. The Terps topped Villanova (247-105), Richmond (242-.50-104.50) and Pittsburgh (222-131). Lafferty was also part of the winning 400 free relay as well as the first place 200 free relay (1:34.886). She and teammate Melanie Busch (William Tennent) were part of Maryland’s winning 200 medley relay (1:44.19) and 400 medley (3:48.67)

Junior Paige Whitmire (Souderton) was part of Penn State’s first place 200 medley relay that finished with a pool record for the McCoy Natatorium of 1:42.13. She also was part of the 400 free relay that captured first place. Penn State defeated both No. 20 Arkansas (167-.5-132.5) and Navy (237-63) in Saturday’s tri-meet.

Ashley Kichline (Souderton) and Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) were part of Millersville’s second place 400 medley relay that finished with a time of 4:11.29 in the Marauders’ 120-74 loss to Kutztown. Thomas finished third in the 200 free (2:04.60) and sixth in the 50 free (28.73) while Kichline was second in the 200 backstroke (2:18.47) and fifth in the 200 free (2:09.60).

Freshman Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) finished second in the 100 free (57.80) in Ursinus College’s 142-120 win over York on Saturday. She also was part of the Bears’ winning 400 free relay that finished with a time of 3:53.98.
