Norristown (10-5, 6-2) stunned first place Wissahickon (15-2, 7-1) in double overtime as the host Eagles soared to a 58-56 Suburban One League American Conference victory. Senior BJ Gordon was clutch in the second OT for N-town hitting on five of six free throws to secure the huge win.
“We really needed this game to know that we can play with the best teams in the area,” said Norristown head coach Michael Evans. “After the loss we had to Plymouth Whitemarsh (56-36) we had a great week of practice and dedicated ourselves to playing better basketball.”
The loss to PW was the only loss for Norristown in its last eight games, and the victory over Wissahickon avenged an early 45-40 loss to the Trojans in the first half of the conference standings.
“We have been able to rotate a lot of players and not lose anything when we make substitutions,” said Evans. “And we have a lot of versatile players that can play more than one position. We like to give the other teams different looks, we are a hard team to scout with the number of players and combinations that we play.”
Norristown had nine players make significant contributions in the win over the Trojans. Senior floor leader Luke Kelly was the lone Eagle in twin digits with 10 points, while Jahbri Hargrove and Samir Bey each scored eight points. Gordon – who sealed the game with his free throws – finished with seven points.
“We tried to put a lot of pressure on them for the entire game,” said Evans. “And I thought we did a real good job on (Jordan) Reed - even though he scored some points. His fouling out of the game hurt them in the overtimes.”
Reed finished the game with a game-high 19 points for the Trojans, while Kyle Garrett scored in double figures with 11 points.
“It was an exciting game, both teams kept fighting the entire game,” said Evans. “It was a great game for us to build on.”

Souderton Wins Clash over Titans
Souderton (11-4, 8-1) remained on top of the Suburban One League Continental Conference standings with a 59-46 victory over host Central Bucks South (8-8, 6-3).
“We did some good things tonight, and we played very well in the fourth period,” said Souderton head coach Dennis Stanton as the Indians outscored the Titans 21-14 in the final quarter. “Luke Moyer (19 points) did a good job of getting some key baskets and playing good defense, but I think that Ry Yozallinas played a great game with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Ry is a tireless worker who plays good defense and is a good rebounder.
“We knew that Central Bucks South was going to be a real challenge for us to beat,” added Stanton. “(Titan head coach) Jason Campbell does a great job of getting them prepared, and we knew that they were going to execute their offense and play tough defense. There are no easy games in our conference.”
In addition to Moyer and Yozallinas, Mark Wonderling scored in twin digits for the Indians. CB South was led in scoring by Dave Knox with eight points, while John Fhaherty and Paul Zakrzewski each scored seven points for the Titans.
“We have worked hard to get to the top of the standings, but we are going to have to work just as hard to stay there,” said Stanton. “Every game we have played in this conference has been very competitive.”
