Pennsbury upset National Conference leader Council Rock North. Check out all of Tuesday’s SOL action.

Pennsbury (12-6, 7-4) recorded its most impressive win of the season as the Falcons soared to a 65-62 Suburban One League National Conference victory over first place Council Rock North (14-4, 9-2).
“The students in the Falcons Nest were in full force tonight, the fans keep this team motivated,” said Pennsbury head coach Bill Coleman. “To knock off a Council Rock North and a Souderton in recent games are very big wins for this team.
“The fourth quarter was the difference in beating North,” added Coleman as the Falcons have now won eight of their last nine games. “We were showing our Pennsbury pride.”
Pennsbury shot a gaudy 14 of 18 from the free throw line in the final period to seal the deal. Dan Ransom scored eight of his nine points in the final period, while Jerrel Burke scored eight of his team-high 21 points in the final frame. Ryan Charity and Shawn Pepper each scored 14 points for the winners.
Council Rock North - which entered the final period with a 44-40 lead – was led by Arron Goodman with a game-high 22 points. Senior guard Aaron Morgan and sophomore guard Rip Engel each scored 10 points for the Indians.
“We need to focus on Truman on Friday night,” said Coleman as the Falcons prepare for the Tigers. “And then we have a big test on Saturday against Coatesville.”
The Raiders are 13-2 overall and have won nine straight games.

Abington (14-5, 7-4) remained in a second place tie in the conference standings as the Ghosts captured a 65-45 victory over Council Rock South (5-13, 2-9). Anthony Durham scored a team-high 22 points to pace Abington, while Jordan Simmons scored in twin digits for the winners with 11 points. Christian Crane was the lone scorer in double figures for the Golden Hawks with a game-high 23 points.

Bensalem (10-8, 7-4) remained in a second place tie in the conference standings as the Owls soared to a 58-50 victory over Neshaminy (4-15, 3-8). Julian Hyden scored a game-high 19 points to lead Bensalem, while Leo Vincent (13) and Austin Nyekan (10) also scored in double digits for the Owls. Shaquel Vaughn led the Skins in scoring with 13 points, while Bobby Marterella and Tyler Katz each scored 12 points for Neshaminy.

William Tennent (6-13, 4-7) won its second straight conference game as the Panthers clawed host Truman (8-10, 5-6) – 61-53. Jack Rauchut led the Panthers with a 21-point scoring performance, while Mike Wasserleben (13) and Horace Spencer (10 points/10 rebounds / 6 blocked shots) also scored in twin digits. Merdic Green scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Tigers, while Kenny Osborne and Daiquan Ashley each scored eight points.

Good Knight for North Penn
North Penn (5-13, 3-8) senior Wes Brooks scored nine points in the fourth period as the Knights won their second straight game with a 53-48 Suburban One League Continental Conference win over host Central Bucks South (9-10, 7-4).
“The players have really bought into playing good man-to-man defense,” said first year North Penn head coach John Conrad. “We played some really good defense in the fourth quarter, and Wes (Brooks) came up big with some clutch free throws.
“Teams come into games against us with the idea of stopping Wes,” added Conrad. “We have struggled at times trying to find someone to step up and score points. Tonight we did a good job of sharing the scoring.”
Brooks finished with a game-high 19 points for the Knights, while Chris Dawson (12) and Mike Swanson (10) also scored in twin digits for the winners. Central Bucks South was led in scoring by sophomore Matt Scamuffo with a team-high 13 points, while Paul Zakrzewski tallied in double figures with 10 points.
North Penn jetted out to a 12-point first period lead only to watch South rally to close to within a point at the half. The game was not decided until the fourth period when Brooks outscored the Titans 9-8 to secure the win.
“We still have a lot to play for the remainder of the season,” said Conrad as the Knights host both Pottsgrove (12-6) and Quakertown (1-17) on Thursday and Friday. “I told the players that if we can win three games this week the pizza party is on me. I hope to spend some money at the end of the week.”

Souderton (15-4, 10-1) kept its firm grip on first place in the conference as the Indians routed visiting Quakertown (1-18, 0-11) – 72-34. Luke Moyer spearheaded the Souderton scoring with a 26-point scoring performance. John Kanas (15) and Mark Wonderling (12) also scored in twin digits for the Indians. The leading scorer for Quakertown was senior Corey Jorgensen with nine points.

Central Bucks West (17-2, 10-1) kept its firm grip on first place in the conference as the Bucks collected a 55-36 victory over rival Central Bucks East (9-10, 6-5). Derek Dyer led all scorers in the game with an 18-point performance for West, while Shane Kellar also scored in double digits with 12 points. Steve Topley scored a team-high 17 points for the Patriots, while Ryan O’Neil also scored in twin digits with 12 points.

Pennridge (8-10, 3-8) broke open a tie ballgame in the third period as the Rams captured a 47-44 victory over host Hatboro-Horsham (7-11, 5-6). Pennridge was led in scoring by senior Tim Abruzzo with a game-high 18 points, while Jeff Garner (14) and Andrew Lyons (12) also scored in twin digits for the Rams. Michael Brown was the leading scorer for the Hatters with 18 points, while Zach Quattro finished in double figures with 11 points.

Eagles Soar to Key Victory
Norristown (12-5, 8-2) stormed back in the second half as the Eagles flew to a critical 58-46 Suburban One League American Conference victory over visiting Upper Dublin (10-8, 4-6). Norristown has now won nine of its last 10 games as the Eagles prepare for the upcoming PIAA District One playoffs.
“We started out the game very slow and couldn’t make shots,” said Norristown head coach Michael Evans as the Eagles scored just 15 first half points. “And when we didn’t score we weren’t able to get into our full court pressure. We came out in the second half and started to score some points, and then we were able to pick up the tempo of the game.”
Norristown scored 22 third period points to close to within 40-37 and then torched the Cardinals 21-6 in the fourth period to win by a comfortable 12-point margin.
The Eagles had three players reach double figures and were led by Luke Kelly with 13 points. Curt Lever (12) and Marquis Bryant (10) also scored in twin digits for the winners. Upper Dublin was led in scoring by Andrew Carber with 13 points, while Darrell Harrison (12) and John Decamara (10) also scored in double figures for the Cardinals.
“We went with a small lineup in the second half, and that seemed turn things around for us,” said Evans of his unit that included Lever, B.J. Gordon, Kelly, Bryant, and Samir Bey. “Upper Dublin has a good basketball team and they played hard. This was a nice win for us.
“We want to go into the playoffs playing well,” added Evans. “We played well in the second half, but we need to play well the entire game come playoff time.”

Wissahickon (17-2, 8-1) remained on top of the conference standings as the Trojans marched to a 68-46 victory over visiting Upper Moreland (6-12, 0-9). Jordan Reed smoked the Golden Bears for 37 points to lead all scorers, while Tanoh Kpassagnon scored in twin digits for Wissahickon with 11 points. Tommy Robinson scored a team-high 17 points for Upper Moreland, while Kevin McFall (15) and Matt Kohn (12) also scored in double digits for the Bears.

Plymouth Whitemarsh (11-8, 7-2) remained in contention for a conference title as the Colonials marched to a 55-50 victory over host Cheltenham (12-7, 5-4). Morgan Jackson finished the game as the leading scorer for PW with 16 points, while Russhon Phillips scored in twin digits with 14 points. Phillips scored eight key points in the final period to secure the win for the Colonials. Toyon Wynder scored a game-high 20 points for the Panthers, while Jarrell Haywood (13) and Aaron McGlawn (10) also scored in double figures for Cheltenham.
