Upper Moreland Girls Lacrosse Preview

UPPER MORELAND GIRLS LACROSSE PREVIEW

Coach:  Karen Grossi (4)

Assistant coaches:  Crystal Bernard, Kelly Meissner, and Kaitlyn Clark (Volunteer)

Last year’s record:  1-15 overall, 1-11 league

Notable losse:  Megan Marley

Key returners:  Kathryn Brunner (12/attack), Maddie Mauro (11/attack), Lily Sgro (11/anywhere but goalkeeper), Chelsea Mills (10/midfield)

Others to watch (include grade/position):  Sami Wojciechowski (12/attack), Ashley Duff (10/midfield), Sarah Reice (10/defense), Veronica Baez (9/midfield)

Strengths/Question Marks: Overall, we have a small and very young team.  Of the 31 girls on the team, 24 of them are freshmen and sophomores.  Although, many of our younger girls are talented, very few of them have experience playing against varsity-level players; so, it should be interesting watching to see who will step-up.  However, as long as we stay healthy and maintain positive attitudes, I am confident that this year’s team is going to be the team that starts to get Upper Moreland lacrosse back on track.

Outlook:  The girls have come into the season with a positive attitude and a much improved work-ethic.  The girls are working hard to ensure that games are more competitive; like most teams, they are also looking to improve upon last year’s record.  Additionally, this year’s goalkeepers are getting more attention than ever before, now that we have a former goalkeeper as an assistant coach.  All of the girls in the cage are excited to be playing that position; so we are looking forward to seeing our goalkeepers improve and get stronger and smarter throughout the season.

GAMES TO WATCH:  Last year, both of our games against Norristown were very exciting.  I expect the same this year.
