PENNSBURY 6, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 5
The Falcons prevailed in a marquee battle of two of the SOL’s elite squads.
After opening the game with a 1-0 lead, the Falcons took a three-minute non-releasable penalty, and the Colonials capitalized, scoring a pair of unanswered goals to go on top 2-1.
The Falcons battled back to go into halftime deadlocked 3-3 and then opened up a 6-3 lead before the Colonials scored a pair of late goals..
The Falcons were led by Andrew Probst, who contributed the hat trick. Calvin Hopkins added a pair of goals, and Ryan McDonald scored a single goal and also had three assists.
For the Colonials, Dean Linn, Corey Kelly, Nick Swift, Kevin Brown and Dylan Wixted each scored single goals. Jake Brown and Kevin Hennessy both contributed one assist.
The Falcons, who held a 25-20 advantage in shots, received a nine-save effort in goal from Drew Sweetland while Andrew Sabia turned away 10 shots for the Colonials.
NORRISTOWN 16, HARRY S TRUMAN 6
Sean Calhoun scored five goals and also handed out five assists while Jesse Prante contributed five goals and four assists in huge performances for the Eagles. Drew Baltrus added two goals and two assists while Austin Fitzsimmons, Kevin Colon, Mike Smith and Pat Owens each scored single goals. Connor McGee and Cody Baker both contributed one assist for the Eagles.
WISSAHICKON 7, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 2
The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of one quarter, but the Trojans rallied to knot the score by halftime. The second half belonged to the Trojans, who scored five unanswered goals. Wissahickon won nine of 10 face-offs.
Luke Gomez, Josh Stollman and Brooks Melvin led the Trojans with two goals each. Melvin also had a pair of assists and Gomez added one assist. Patrick Magdalinski contributed an assist.
Brennan Hennessey was credited with five saves in goal for the Trojans while his counterpart for Rock North, Mark McDonald, had six saves.
NESHAMINY 12, CONWELL EGAN 1
Andy MacDonald scored four goals while Alex McKenzie connected for the hat trick to lead the Redskins. Connor Bishop added two goals and one assist, and Matt Magdelinskas added one goal and two assists. Mike Hires scored one goal while teammates Brad Tebeest and John Bickle each added a pair of assists. Mike Pfender and Andrew Pavonarius chipped in with one assist each.
Austin Marshall (four saves) and Troy Jones (five saves) both came up big in goal for the Redskins.
SOUDERTON 9, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 4
Ridge Schultz contributed the hat trick to lead the Indians while Tyler MacDougall had two goals and two assists. Cameron Trick also had a pair of goals, and Drew Nice and Tyler Huggins each added a goal and an assist. Goalie Tyler Zwaan was credited with 19 saves in a standout effort.
DOWNINGTOWN WEST 13, ABINGTON 10
Ryan Ambler scored five goals and contributed an assist in a standout individual performance, but the Ghosts weren’t able to defeat a solid Whippet squad. Shane Dunn added a pair of goals for the Ghosts while Brian Gallagher, Matt Lomady and Austin Pifani each contributed single goals. Lomady also had an assist while Pifani was credited with five ground balls. Abington goalie Travis O’Connor was credited with 13 saves in a busy day in goal.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 16, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 6
Nick Gugliemi and Corey Giampietro led a balanced Golden Hawk attack in Friday's season opener - both players contributed four goals and four assists. Freshman Tommy Vanderslice and sophomore Shane Magrann added two goals each, and Kyle Walter, Dan Funck, Jake Presley and Sam Presley each added one goal.
