Plymouth Whitemarsh 6, Upper Dublin 5 (OT)
Kevin Hennessy scored 46 seconds into overtime to cap off a stunning comeback by Plymouth Whitemarsh in Tuesday’s 6-5 victory over American Conference opponent Upper Dublin.
“Kevin is a leader, and a hard worker,” said PW coach Phil Chang. “Nick Swift had a nice dodge, found Kevin and Kevin put it away.”
Upper Dublin led 1-0 after one quarter and held a 4-0 advantage at halftime.
“We just couldn’t get the ball,” Chang said. “Upper Dublin is a top-quality team. They got to every ground ball in the first half, they pressured the ball and they dominated the first half.”
The Colonials scored two early goals in the third quarter and knotted the score at 4-4 by the end of the period. Both teams found the net once in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime tied at 5-5.
“We saw some adversity today, and those kids fought back and responded,” Chang said. “Today’s game revealed a lot about our kids’ character.”

Upper Moreland 20, Norristown 13
Upper Moreland overcame a 5-1 first-quarter deficit to earn a hard-fought 20-13 victory over American Conference opponent Norristown in a game that was much closer than the score would indicate.
“Norristown came out fast and put a lot of pressure on us,” said Upper Moreland coach Mike Liberona. “They started out tough and I think they caught our midfielders off-guard.”
The Golden Bears battled back, and early in the third period scored four goals while Norristown was a man down on an unreleasable penalty. The Eagles continued to battle, pulling back to 15-13 in the fourth quarter before the Bears netted the final five goals of the game.
“A couple years ago, a team gets up 5-1 on us, the game’s over,” Liberona said. “This year, they’re learning to deal with that adversity. They did a great job of keeping each other in it, and it worked.”

“Neshaminy came ready to play,” said Pennsbury coach Jamie Huber. “Any time Pennsbury and Neshaminy meet, it’s always a rivalry. Neshaminy came out hard in the first quarter and they capitalized on a couple of our mistakes. We’re happy with the win, but there’s still a lot we can improve on.”

“Our goal is to have the guys play some really good teams early, so they can see what good look like,” said South coach Mike Sharman. “We want to challenge them, and we want them to learn.
