Central Bucks East (4-3, 1-2) won its first Suburban One League Continental Conference game of the season as the Patriots marched to a 9-4 victory over host Pennridge (5-2, 1-2).  Both CB East and the Rams are only one game out of first place in conference standings.

“We did some things today that we have had trouble doing early this season,” said Central Bucks East head coach Kyle Dennis.  “We haven’t been able to string hits together – we did that today – and we have struggled defensively – and we played well in the field today.

“Tyler Zeleny made some phenomenal plays at shortstop,” added Dennis of his three-year starter at shortstop.  “And Anthony Barrila did a great job pitching by mixing his pitches and keeping them off balance for most of the game.”

Barrila threw a complete game for the Patriots – allowed just two earned runs – and had three strikeouts.

Central Bucks East broke open a tight 3-2 game by scoring three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to stretch the one-run lead to a seven-run cushion.  Senior Ryan Gilbert had three hits, while junior Ben Hauser and senior Ryan Clow each had a pair of hits for the winners.

“We have a tough stretch of games next week with CB West (Monday), CB South (Wednesday), and Quakertown (Friday),” said Dennis.  “I feel that we have three solid high school pitchers in Barrila, Blair Killough, and Robbie Welfhaf.  It is going to be an important week for us.”

North Penn (6-1, 2-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season as the Knights rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat visiting Central Bucks West (5-2, 2-1) – 6-5 in a Suburban One League Continental Conference showdown

North Penn (2-1) now joins CB West (2-1), CB South (2-1), Hatboro-Horsham (2-1), and Souderton (2-1) at the top of the conference standings.

The Knights scored four runs in the last of the sixth inning to secure the win.

“There is no such thing as a bad comeback,” said North Penn head coach Kevin Manero.  “We kept ourselves in the game and we finally were able to string some hits together in that sixth inning.  We just kept after them one at-bat at a time, and we came up with some key hits late in the game.”

The Knights worked some two-out magic in the sixth inning.  Senior Matt Davey blistered a three-run double to score what proved to be the tying runs, and Bryce Mengel followed with an RBI double to plate Davey with what proved to be the winning run.

Bobby Reddick earned the win for North Penn as he fired a scoreless sixth and seventh innings for the Knights.

“It is a long season, and the teams in this conference are very competitive,” said Manero.  “We have to remember to go out each game with the same good approach and see what happens.”

Souderton (5-1, 2-1) moved into the SOL Continental Conference penthouse as the Indians captured a 9-6 victory over Hatboro-Horsham (5-2, 2-1).  Both Souderton and the Hatters are knotted at the top of the standings – along with CB West and North Penn.

The big name for the Indians was Jake Ebersole.  Ebersole came on in relief for the Indians to earn the victory – threw the final 4.1 innings – and permitted just one earned run.  Ebersole supported his own cause with a towering three-run homerun to give Souderton the lead for good. Corey Capaldi had two hits and two RBI for the winners.

Hatboro-Horsham outhit the Indians 11-6 – but could not outscore them.  Connor Crookham had three hits for the Hatters to lead the offense, while Tyler Zingle, Chris Hens, and Casey Saverio had two hits each.

Council Rock South (6-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten for the season as the Golden Hawks soared to a 5-2 victory over host Neshaminy (2-4, 2-1).

“We as a coaching staff won’t talk about being undefeated, and we won’t allow that kind of talk from anyone on our team,” said Council Rock South head coach Greg Young.  “We play a very difficult schedule, and we just have to keep our focus on the next game.

“This was a very good win today against a very good Neshaminy team that scrapped with us for all seven innings,” added Young.  “(Neshaminy head coach) Chris Tenaglia has done an awesome job taking over that program.”

Rock South spotted Neshaminy a 1-0 first inning lead but took over the game by scoring four runs in the second inning.  The big hit in that inning was a two-run double off the bat of Zac Fitzgerald.

The Golden Hawks used their impressive left-right combination of Bret DiStefano and Brian Donnelly to combine for the win.  DiStefano fired the first six innings and collected eight strikeouts.  Donnelly threw the seventh to close out the win.

“Bret reached his mark in pitches thrown, and he looked like he was getting a little tired,” said Young.  “Brian was available, and we have no trouble letting him close out the game.”

Council Rock North (3-3, 2-1) rebounded from its only conference loss of the seasonas the Indians routed Truman (1-6, 0-3) – 10-2.  Rock North lost a 4-3 game to Abington on Wednesday.

“We need to play today after the way we played yesterday against Abington,” said Council Rock North head coach Matt Schram.  “Abington deserved to win the game, but we didn’t play baseball that way that we should play baseball.

“We finally figured out how to hit the baseball today,” continued Schram as the Indians pounded out 12 hits.  “We got some good swings today.”

Senior Phil Marks delivered a key two-run hit to highlight a five-run Rock North first inning.  Will Terry had both a double and a triple to fuel the Indian offensive attack.

Junior Nate English went the first four innings to earn the win for Rock North.  English allowed just two hits and collected seven strikeouts.

“Nate threw a good game,” said Schram.  “He walked a couple of hitters, but once he settled down he had good command.”

The difference in the game was the bat of Gosselin.  Gosselin crushed a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third inning to snap a 1-1 tie and presented the Falcons with what proved to be the game-winning blow.
