North Penn earned a big win in SOL volleyball action. Check out all of Monday’s action.
NORTH PENN 3, SOUDERTON 2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-13)
The Knights were propelled by a standout defensive effort in their come-from-behind win over the Indians on Monday. Lucas Chen led the way with 11 digs.
“He really stepped it up as far as solidifying our ball control,” coach Tim Moyer said. “That really helped enable us to get the ball to our middle.”
When the Knights got the ball to their middle, good things happened. Scott Dickenson had 10 kills on 13 attempts with no hitting errors. He also ignited the defense with eight blocks.
“As a senior, he did exactly what we needed him to do,” Moyer said. “He did a good job of helping to negate Souderton’s big attack in the middle.”
Things certainly didn’t look promising when the Knights dropped the first two games of Monday’s match.
“I was very proud of the guys,” Moyer said. “It was definitely a team effort.
“We have extremely talented kids, but up until this point, we had been playing six or seven individuals with the libero getting in there at times.
“Tonight was a team effort, especially in the comeback. We made some adjustments, and they really stuck together as a team. We won it on the defensive end.”
The Knights also had some big performances at the net. Any Willits had 15 kills to go along with one ace and 10 digs. Matt Elias had 13 kills, 25 assists, three blocks and five digs. Mark Elias had 30 assists.
For the Indians, Andrew Diesel had a team high 15 kills. Chris Kluka added 12 kills and five blocks while Ryan Davison had nine kills and two blocks. Greg Mazza led the defense with 16 digs while Mark Wittig had nine digs and four blocks.
Both teams are 5-2 in league play while the Indians are 5-3 overall.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (25-15, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23)
Kyle Dolf led the Patriots with 16 kills, 21 assists, five aces and four solo blocks. Nick Bennett added 14 kills, six solo blocks and seven digs. Jack Perrotta contributed five kills, a solo block and two digs, and Mike Donovan was credited with three digs, three kills and five aces. Trevor Clemens chipped in with five digs, one block, two kills and 14 assists.
For the Panthers, Ryan Mease (13 kills) and Nick Grossov (12) led the way. Casey Fosbenner added seven kills, Josh Morgan had five kills and Mike Whittington added four kills.
The Patriots improved to 3-4 in league play while the Panthers fell to 4-5.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-18)
Dan Ford turned in a solid all-around performance, contributing 18 assists, nine kills, five aces and three blocks. Christian Kiselica had a team high 10 kills while Tyler Burns added eight. Chris Richards had seven kills, five aces and six digs, and Jeremy Higgins had six kills and three blocks. Dan Rafalovitch was credited with 14 assists.
The win upped the Indians’ record to 5-1 while the Owls fell to 1-4 in the league (2-4 overall).
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-19)
Mike Fehr led the Bucks with 11 kills while Connor Logan had 10 kills and four digs. Christian Rupert added seven kills and four blocks.
The Bucks improved to 6-1 while the Flying Cardinals fell to 2-6.
CHELTENHAM 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-17, 17-25, 25-20, 25-15)
Brett Mayne had a big night at the net for the Panthers, contributing 12 kills, three blocks and one ace. Brandon Smith added six kills and four blocks. Devin Pender and Ben Doyle also both had six kills with Pender contributing two aces. Ryan Schgier added five kills to a balanced Panther attack. Setter Tommy Huynh was credited with 33 assists to go along with two aces.
The win was the first of the season for the Panthers (1-7, 1-8 overall). The Titans are 0-7 in the league (0-8 overall).
PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-13)
Pat Merrik had a productive night at the net, contributing 14 kills (.619 hitting efficiency) to go along with two aces, six digs and one block. Chris Spano added eight kills (.462) as well as two aces and three digs. Jeff Yasalonis had 34 assists, one kill, one ace, two digs and one block. Sean Kropp had 10 kills and four digs while Dalton Zimmerman had two kills, two aces, one dig and one block.
The Falcons are 4-1 in league play (5-1 overall) while the Golden Hawks fell to 0-4 in the league (1-4 overall).
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19)
Nick Gross led the Panthers at the net with 10 kills. Setter Dillon Cooney had 27 assists while Justin Keeny led the defense with 20 digs. John Ferrell contributed six blocks.
While the Panthers improved to 3-1 in league play (4-1 overall), the Ghosts fell to 2-5 in the league (3-5 overall).
