Pennsbury edged Abington on Tuesday to clinch at least a share of the National Conference crown.

PENNSBURY 8, ABINGTON 7

The Falcons earned at least a share of the National Conference title by edging the Ghosts for the second time this season.
Pennsbury had to rally from behind to earn Tuesday’s big win as the Falcons found themselves trailing 5-3 at the end of one quarter, but they outscored the Ghosts 3-1 in the second quarter to knot the score 6-6.
The two teams exchanged goals in a third quarter that was dominated by the goalies and defenses for both squads. It was more of the same in the fourth quarter until senior captain Calvin Williams broke the deadlock with a goal that turned out to be the game winner with 3:37 remaining on the clock.
The Ghosts threatened, but the Falcons’ defense and goalie Drew Sweetland stood tall, leading Pennsbury to its first ever season sweep of Abington. Sweetland finished the game with 22 saves in a standout effort.
Luke Matthews contributed the hat trick to lead the Falcons while Andrew Probst added a pair of goals. Hopkins had one goal and two assists. Evan Caterson and Colin Sullivan both scored single goals while Ryan McDonald and Sean McDonald each had one assist.
The Ghosts were led by the two-goal efforts of Matt Figeroa (one assist) and Matt Malloy. Ryan Ambler added a goal and an assist, and Austin Pifani and Matt Lomady each added single goals. Will Dulin and Brian Gallagher both had one assist.
Abington goalie Travis O’Connor had 14 saves.
A win over Council Rock North on Friday will give the Falcons sole possession of the conference crown.
