Jordan Reed – Binghamton University (Basketball)

Major:  Physical Education

Final list of colleges:  Binghamton, Long Island University

Reasons for choosing Binghamton:  “Just the coaching staff and what it possibly could be. It has a great arena, and it has a nice fan base. The town is all about basketball, so it’s a basketball-based town. It seemed like it would be exciting.

“Also the opportunity to get in there and play – I don’t know about starting, but I will definitely have a chance to get in there and get hands-on experience.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “I thought about college basketball since day one. It’s always been a dream, but in my dream I actually wanted to be a Tar Heel. I also wanted to be seven-foot, but it didn’t happen, so I’m out here trying to make it happen with what I do have. I always had dreams of playing college basketball.

“It was such a long process. When Binghamton offered me a scholarship, I was right on it because of the staff, and the school itself was good, so it was a win-win for me. I knew right away I was in.”

Coach Kyle Wilson says:  “One of the things that it’s tough for others to see that our coaching staff and teammates see is the maturation process from where he was as a freshman to where he was as a senior and even the big jump from his junior to his senior year. Jordan is one that really took on the leadership role wholeheartedly. He knew we had a chance to have a special year and a lot of it was going to fall on his shoulders.

“We kept our fingers crossed during football season that Tanoh (Kpassagnon) was going to make it out because we knew it would be tough for teams - if they had anybody of considerable size - to match up with both he and Tanoh alike. With Tanoh in the picture, it opened things up for Jordan. We just knew it would be a special season where he would have an advantage in many of the matchups because most teams would have to put their biggest guy on Tanoh, and Jordan was going to have a guy who wasn’t big or strong enough or a guy who was small and quick who he could overpower in the post. In most games, that really played to his advantage. You can try and stop one, but you can’t stop the other. A guy like Jordan who is just relentless and has the pure basketball ability – it was just a blessing for him.

“When Jordan came in this offseason shooting early in the morning before school, I told him, ‘If you can develop that perimeter range even slightly to where they have to come out and guard you, it will be a tough season for anyone to stop you.’ When we played Perk Valley, he scored 42 points, and he actually sat out the last six minutes. He’s a special player. He’s truly that definition of a man amongst boys.”
