On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, Council Rock North seniors Molly Doyle and Kara Magley were recognized at a special news conference for signing letters of intent to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.
Molly Doyle – U.S. Naval Academy (Lacrosse)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Navy, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State
Reasons for choosing Naval Academy: “I love the school and what it stands for. I want to serve my country.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse: “I’ve been playing since second grade, but it wasn’t until ninth grade that I started to take it more seriously. That is when I found that I could compete against the top players in other states through club lacrosse.”
Co-coach Pat Toner says: “Molly always did a good job of going after ground balls, she does a nice job on draw controls, and she is a leader on and off the field. She’ll do a good job of assisting and scoring. All around, it was a huge loss for us last year when she missed the season with a torn ACL, and we were very happy to have her back, especially after losing some key players from last year to graduation. We needed another person in the lineup that could help control the game. We didn’t have a game this season where someone wasn’t face-guarded or marked tightly, so we needed to have as many weapons on the field as possibly knowing that was going to happen.”
Co-coach Carolyn Kacergis says: “Molly is a very talented lacrosse player in all aspects of the game. She has great defensive footwork, excellent speed and is very hard to stop on attack. She sees the field very well and highlights other players often. Over the past four years, Molly has really grown into an excellent player, even with missing the entire season last year due to her ACL injury. Molly played a crucial role on our team this year, and we could not have been as successful without her. As a captain, she was an excellent leader both on and off the field. I will really miss coaching Molly, but even more so, her fun and outgoing personality. It will not be the same without her.”

Kara Magley – Boston College (Lacrosse)
Major: Education
Final list of colleges: Boston College, Duke, Dartmouth, Virginia Tech, Loyola
Reasons for choosing Boston College: “Academics – The Lynch School of Education and the coaching staff and players. I really like the coaching staff (Coach Bowen Holden and Coach Acacia Walker) and the direction the lacrosse program is taking towards the future. Also a big factor was the beautiful campus and the proximity to Boston which is a great city.”
When did you start thinking about playing lacrosse at the collegiate level? “Freshman year while playing tournaments with my club team, the Phantastix’s.”
Co-coach Pat Toner says: “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a player as talented as Kara is come though Council Rock lacrosse. She’s just unbelievable. She has speed, she has a very deceptive shot, she has great vision on the field, and she has the right attitude. She will be double and triple-teamed, and it doesn’t so much get in her head as it motivates her to do better. One time last year she was double-teamed almost the whole game, and she scored seven goals. When she’s on fire, she’s very difficult to stop. She’s also one of the most unselfish players I’ve ever had. Where she could have scored seven or eight goals, she won’t. She’ll pass it to the younger kids and make sure they get a chance to play. The best compliment I could give is that I’m glad I didn’t have to play against her.”
Co-coach Carolyn Kacergis says: “Kara is an all-around amazing lacrosse player with a great work ethic. She has improved immensely from her freshman year, when we used to have to tell her to go to goal. She is a great defender, has excellent speed in the midfield and a deadly shot. It is very difficult to stop her at times. She played a huge part in our success over the past four years. As a captain, she always was motivating her teammates and always wanted what was best for the team. She not only is a tremendous lacrosse player, she is such a fun person to be around, and we will surely miss her next year both on and off the field. We could not have asked for anything more from her over the past four years.”
