Dan Matthews – Colgate University (Soccer)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: Colgate, Lafayette, West Virginia
Reasons for choosing Colgate: “I took a couple of visits with the coaches, and it just seemed right from the start. It seemed like the right environment for me to succeed.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer? “I have played soccer my whole life. Both my brothers played in college – at St. John’s and Seton Hall, and I just knew that was the route I was going to take. I have always enjoyed playing soccer.
“I’ve had some setbacks – I had some bad injuries, but soccer has always been fun. That’s why I continue to play.”
Coach Stuart Malcolm says: “Dan played generally midfield or striker for us. He was one of those game-changing type of players. He’s very quick, he has good ball skills, and he has a terrific shot. One of the best goals I’ve seen by a high school player was when he had a free kick against Radnor in the playoffs. He was mainly a forward, but he has a lot of qualities you can’t necessarily coach.”
About Dan:
Favorite food: ‘My grandmom’s spaghetti and meatballs.’
Favorite movie: Step Brothers
Favorite music: ‘Open to anything that sounds good to me.’
