FIELD HOCKEY
Drexel senior Amanda Fleischut (Central Bucks West) was named to the 2012 Preseason All-CAA Field Hockey Team. The team was selected in a vote by the league’s head coaches. Fleischut led Drexel’s attack last year with nine goals and 21 points. The West alum scored three game-winning goals for the Dragons and was named First Team All-CAA. She also was chosen to the 2011 Longstreth/NFHCA Division 1 All-Region First Team for the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Senior Becca Chylack (Souderton) returns to help anchor a La Salle squad that advanced to the Atlantic 10 semifinals last season. Chylack, a versatile midfielder/defender, is a three-time all-conference selection and four-year starter for the Explorers. She comes into the season ranked in the top 10 all-time at La Salle in both goals and points. Sophomore forward Colleen Kempf (Central Bucks South) scored a pair of goals in La Salle’s A-10 win over St. Joe’s and is expected to see increased time this season. Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) is a returning forward while freshmen Emily Vasey (Central Bucks East) and Taylor Yoder (Souderton) will vie for playing time.

FOOTBALL
Sheldon Mayer (Norristown)
suffered a season ending injury during his freshman season at Shippensburg University last fall. In limited action, he carried the ball 19 times, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Mayer, who also is a kick returner, was granted a medical redshirt and will again have redshirt-f
reshman eligibility this season. Sophomore Theo Davis (Central Bucks South) appeared in the final three games last season as a defensive player but began the transition to fullback during the spring and is expected to be a contributor at that position this year. Jake Metz (Souderton) will line up at defensive end. He finished the 2011 season with a team-high 7.5 sacks and earned All-PSAC East Second Team honors. Junior Mike Schmidt (Harry S Truman) totaled 10 tackles while playing every game on the defensive line last year. James Brennan (Upper Merion) was inserted into the starting lineup at linebacker after a teammate suffered an injury last season and immediately made an impact, finishing third on the team in tackles while starting the final nine contests. In his first start against Clarion in the third game of the season, Brennan returned his lone interception of the year 31 yards for a touchdown.

Shaun Moore (North Penn) brings experience to Bloomsburg’s defensive line after making 30 tackles last season. Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) is a proven wide out who has the ability to stretch the field, and he will also be contributing on Bloomsburg’s kickoff return team. Greg Waters (Council Rock South) will battle for playing time on the offensive line while Shane Quinn (Neshaminy) will vie for time at tight end.

Kutztown’s Aaron McGlynn (Souderton), Alex DiNolfi (Souderton), Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) and Kevin Morton (Abington) have each earned Preseason All-America Honors. The Golden Bears enter the 2012 season ranked No. 12 by the American Football Coaches Association. The ranking comes after a record setting 2011 season that saw Kutztown not only win the first PSAC championship in school history but also win the program’s first NCAA playoff game as well. The team set a school record for wins in a season (11) and with six PSAC East victories tied a school mark set in 2010. In addition, Kutztown set school records for points (487), passing touchdowns (41), total touchdowns (68), rushing yards (2,576) and total offense (6,048). The Golden Bears were one of three PSAC teams ranked in the AFCA Preseason Top 25.

Morton was named the 2011-12 Kutztown Male Athlete of the Year. This is Morton’s second consecutive year to earn the honor. He earned Honorable Mention All-America and PSAC East Player of the Year. He also was named PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year, PSAC East First Team and Daktronics All-Super Region I Second Team. Morton played in 12 games his junior season. Before a late season injury, he passed for 2,680 yards and 32 touchdowns, completing 63 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 173 yards and five scores. He passed for 458 yards against CW Post and had six touchdown passes in the season opener against St. Anselm. Morton had five games of at least 300 yards passing on the year. He led the PSAC and was fourth in Division II in passing efficiency (160.35) and was fifth in the PSAC in passing (223.3) and total offense (237.3). Kutztown was the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division II Super Region One playoffs and advanced to the second round.

Sophomore transfer from IUP Chris Smallwood (Upper Moreland) adds depth to West Chester’s backfield at running back. Junior Trey Farmer (North Penn), an offensive lineman, has appeared in 11 games over the past two seasons and should fill in the starting left guard position. Junior Justin Bathurst (North Penn) appeared in a season-best five games last season and will serve as a backup at left tackle. Sophomore Derek Schatz (Council Rock South) will be the backup at center. Senior Blair Gower (Neshaminy), who transferred from East Stroudsburg over a year ago, will assume the everyday starting role at right guard. True freshman Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) is a candidate to see playing time right away on the defensive front line. Coach Bill Zwaan does not typically throw two freshmen into the line of duty, but he said that Cohen, a Class AAA second team all-state performer last fall, is an exception to that rule. Sophomore Mike Culbreath (North Penn) saw his 2011 season cut short by injury, but he will return this fall and is expected to see playing time at linebacker. True freshman Ralph Reeves (North Penn) will also be vying for playing time at linebacker. Sophomore Dante Devine (Pennsbury) will be a reserve on the corner. As a freshman, Devine had 19 tackles in 10 appearances, and he is expected to play a big role this season. Redshirt freshmen Dominic Taggart (North Penn) and Brandon Pepper (Pennsbury) also will be pushing for playing time in the defensive backfield. Junior place-kicker Shawn Leo (Souderton) is one of the top kickers in the PSAC and has already set his sights on the school record book. He ranked fourth in the Division II in field goals per game (1.5) and tied for 37th in the NCAA in scoring (8.0 points per game). Leo made a school record 15 field goals last season, including 7 of 10 from 30-39 yards and 2 of 4 from 40-49 yards. Rich Bruno (Council Rock South) will take over as the everyday punter while also handling kickoffs. Bruno won the kickoff duties in the middle of last year and averaged 57 yards per kickoff with two touchbacks.

Lou Brown (Upper Dublin) spent his first two-and-a-half seasons at Millersville lining up at wide receiver. On Oct 15 of last season against Kutztown, Brown was moved to defense and played the final five games at corner. His play was so impressive his coaches decided to keep him there. In five games, he tallied 11 tackles, including two half-tackles for loss. He also forced a fumble and intercepted a pass against East Stroudsburg. Brown is the team’s number one corner heading into the fall. “Lou is the best corner we’ve had since I’ve been here,” coach Greg Colby said. “I look for him to have a really good year. That’s going to help us a lot having a guy that can play that position consistently every down.” Redshirt sophomore Kyle Reaves (Pennsbury) and redshirt freshman Rasheed Johnson (Norristown) are candidates for a starting role in the defensive backfield. Andrew Boal (Souderton) returns at right tackle on a Millersville offensive line that returns all five starters. Boal, a junior, is the anchor of the line. He has started 16 games in two seasons. Jeff Buchanan (Upper Dublin), a 6-1 redshirt freshman, could factor into the mix at wide receiver. Senior Pat Cantrell (Pennsbury) has played in every game on the defensive line since he stepped onto the campus. Redshirt sophomore Reggie Slaton (Bensalem) and redshirt freshman Dylan Gossler (Quakertown) are fighting for a spot in the rotation on the defensive line.
