In an unbeaten 5-0 start to the Central Bucks South 2012 season, sophomore running back Josh Adams has deservedly gained the glare of the spotlight with his brilliant performances to date. And Adams did little to deflect that attention with an impressive four touchdown – 194-yard rushing performance in the Titans 44-28 Suburban One League Continental Conference victory over visiting Souderton (3-2, 1-1).

Senior quarterback John Pileggi III was sensational with a 12-of-13 passing display for 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The diminutive senior completed his final 11 passes and totally frustrated the Indian secondary all night to extend Titan drives that resulted in touchdowns.
“I pretty much knew the reads to (Coach) Rackovan’s offense since the beginning of summer practice, and every week I get more comfortable with what we are doing,” said the 5-foot, 9-inch Pileggi who missed most of his junior season with concussions. “Our offensive line gives me all the time I need to be able to read the defense and get the ball to the right receiver.
“We knew tonight that Souderton was going to be in a lot of man coverages,” added Pileggi. “With having Josh in our backfield, the defense is somewhat off balance. And I like our receivers one on one with the defenders.”
“Souderton came out and loaded the box to stop the run,” said CB South head coach Dave Rackovan. “We are a running team, but we have to be able to throw the football if we want to continue to use our running game.
“John has been in our system for two years, and there is no question that he understands the offense,” added Rackovan. “He doesn’t have a cannon for an arm, but he is an accurate long thrower to both the post and to the corner. We caught the ball, and John was lights out.”
“We knew coming in that CB South had a great offense,” said Souderton head coach Ed Gallahger. “Everyone knew about Adams, but we also knew that Pileggi was a talented quarterback. Those are two very good football players.
“We have to be able to put this game behind us and get ready for Pennridge next week,” added Gallagher. “We played hard this week – we just didn’t play well.”
Next week for CB South is defending SOL Continental Conference champion North Penn. The Knights (3-2, 2-0) prepped for the showdown with a 42-7 rout of Quakertown (1-4, 0-1).
“Who wants to play North Penn?” smiled Rackovan. “There is no doubt that they are the giant in our division, and we are going to be excited to get a chance to play them.”
“I think we will be ready for them,” said Pileggi. “It doesn’t matter what anyone says before the game. The best team on the field will win the game.”
Central Bucks South was the best team on the field against Souderton.
Adams took the very first offensive snap from scrimmage and jetted 56 yards for a touchdown. Evan Stahl booted the first of his five extra points to extend the lead to 7-0.
Souderton rallied to knot the score at 7-7 on a 10-play scoring drive. Anthony Williams earned scoring honors for the Indians on a 15-yard scoring run. Jeff Wolf connected on the first of his four placements for the Big Red.
Adams scored two rushing touchdowns for the Titans in the second period on runs of 30 and one yards, and Pileggi fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to Cale Mosher. Souderton answered with a four-yard touchdown burst by Jarrett Reinhold and a terrific 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Williams.
The teams exchanged third period TDs as Adams scored on a 20-yard run for the Titans, and Reinhard scored on a two-yard run for the Indians.
The Titans put the game away in the fourth period on a 22-yard field goal by Stahl and a 10-yard scoring pass from Pileggi to Steve Veal. Veal emerged as Pileggi’s favorite target with seven catches for 88 yards.
Adams carried the ball a staggering 31 times. The slender tailback gained 232 yards but also was caught behind the line of scrimmage seven times for a minus 38 yards. But the 194-yard – four-touchdown – bottom line was more than remarkable.
“As long as we are playing the game, I will carry the ball,” said Adams who has now scored 21 touchdowns this season. “You can only get tired in your mind.
“We weren’t thinking about North Penn before this game, but now we can think about them,” added Adams. “I’m sure Coach Rackovan will add some new things to the offense this week.”
And those new things will full advantage of both the talented legs of Adams and equally talented arm of JP3.
