NORTH PENN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 (24-26, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 18-16)
The Maidens picked up a big win heading into Thursday’s district seeding meeting, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to knock off first place West in five tightly-contested games.
The Bucks were led by Alicia West (17 kills, 11 digs), Rachel Baker (14 kills, five digs), Jess West (49 assists), Maddie Klun (10 kills, three digs) and Katie Padva (eight kills). Rachel Farnin (17 digs) and Courtney King (10 digs, five kills) led the defense.
UPPER DUBLIN 3, ABINGTON 2 (20-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-13, 15-13)
The Flying Cardinals won a thriller on Tuesday, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to earn the dramatic win on Senior Night.
"It was a very exciting game," coach Meg Goettner said. "After losing two sets, the girls really made up their minds to switch the momentum, come together and play awesome!
"The digging was spot on - not many balls dropped thanks to Alyssa Rowley and Bernice Leung. The front row was putting the ball down consistently and getting excellent blocks for which I must congratulate sophomores Taylor Stek and Melanie Phifer.
"In addition, junior Mary DeCamara swung her heart out at right side. I told the girls we were going to win this game with attacks, and our junior setter, Taylor D'Ginto, made sure to get up nearly every dig and make it hittable."
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH (25-18, 25-14, 25-22)
Seniors Maria Jose Alanis, Maura Carr and Hannah Washam capped a memorable regular season with a Senior Night sweep of the Panthers. It was an emotional night for all three.
“I felt like my body was on the court, but my head was somewhere else,” Washam said.
Washam, the Panthers’ veteran setter, sang the National Anthem prior to the match, and then the Panthers battled their way to a win in the first set that featured 13 ties, the final one at 17-17.
“I think it was all nerves,” Carr said. “Everyone was here tonight, it was our Senior Night, and we didn’t want to mess up.”
The Panthers closed out the game with an 8-1 run that included three winners by sophomore Jaime Bonner.
“I was really pleased with the way our underclassmen stepped up,” coach Brian Bassler said. “Jaime Bonner stepped up big up front.
“Hannah, as a senior, was all over the place. She wasn’t going to let anything drop. MJ Alanis is pretty consistent in the front, and Maura Carr is consistent in the back.”
In the second set, the Panthers sprinted out of the gate to a 14-4 lead after the Golden Hawks were whistled for four hits. The Golden Hawks trimmed that lead to five (16-11) but never got any closer as the Panthers rolled to the win. Chelsea Gallagher closed out the game with a kill.
The Golden Hawks appeared poised to steal the third set, opening up a 17-12 lead after a Meredith Gilson service ace. They still led 18-15 after a Tennent hit sailed out of play, but Alanis answered with her own personal run, delivering a pair of kills, a block and a tip off an errant pass for a winner that put the Panthers on top 19-18. The Golden Hawks knotted the score 19-19 and still found themselves deadlocked at 20-20 after a vicious crosscourt kill by Leanna Keegan. A Tennent dig fell in for a winner, giving the Panthers a lead they would not lose. Bonner closed it out with a kill for match point.
The difference between winning and losing, according to Rock South coach Kelly Korn, comes down to confidence.
“Having been down to them before and knowing they beat Pennsbury, we get really excited and get ahead of ourselves,” the Golden Hawks’ coach said. “Then we remember, ‘We’re not supposed to beat them.’
“We’re just working on finishing matches, but we hung with them this time. It was a competitive game. The last time we played them we were swept under the carpet. I think it’s a matter of confidence. I don’t think we necessarily 100 percent believe in ourselves yet.”
Keegan led the Golden Hawks with seven kills while Stephanie Thomas had five. Setter Danielle Bradley had 13 assists.
For the Panthers, Alanis had 13 kills, Bonner had nine and Gallagher had eight. Washam had 26 assists, and CC Weir had 18 digs.
The season has been a special one for the Panthers, who have wins over Pennsbury, St. Basil Academy and West Chester Henderson on their resume. According to the players, team bonding has been a key, and on Monday night, the team had a sleepover at the home of Alanis.
“At the beginning of the season, we got to know each other, which actually helps on the court,” Washam said. “We’re all good friends.”
So far so good for the Panthers, who boast a 12-5 record overall (8-3 SOL).
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-18)
The Titans and Indians celebrated Dig Pink Night on Tuesday with a goal of surpassing last year’s total of $1,500. The Titans’ team leader was Mary Conroy, who organized and helped coordinate the Dig Pink Night with Souderton. The finally tally will not be available until next week.
“CB South played well tonight with everyone contributing,” South coach Ulana Keer said.
For the Indians, Alexa Kluka led the way with six kills while Jen Spause had five and Anna Dudzinksi, four kills. Grace Pinto had 17 assists. Molly Thompson led the defense with six digs while Anna Moyer, Kluka and Dudzinski each had four. Kluka had two blocks and Pinto added three aces.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, NESHAMINY 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16)
The Indians took another step toward clinching sole possession of the National Conference crown with Tuesday’s sweep of the Redskins.
For the Redskins, Julia Staub had 17 assists, two aces and two kills. Jen Harasim had eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Morgan Oberholtzer had nine digs, three kills and two aces. Molly MacDonald added 10 digs and two aces. Danielle Catapano had seven kills, three aces and two digs.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 0 (25-21, 26-24, 33-31)
The Hatters celebrated Senior Night by winning a marathon third game to earn a sweep of the Colonials. Seniors Laura Calvin (six kills), Lauren Laucella (four kills, four blocks, two block assists), Lauren Hill (one block, three block assists and one ace) all made contributions. Senior Lauren Yanni served five points and added three digs. Senior Caitlin Klotzbach dominated the defense with nine digs and served eight points. Other contributors included Katie McKay (nine digs, 16 assists), Sam Jones (seven kills, four blocks) and Quinn O’Donnell (five kills, three blocks).
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21)
Courtney Kauffman led the Patriots with 10 kills while Hannah Lunak had nine. Rachel Clow and Lindsay Mcintosh both had six kills. Mcintosh led the serving game with five aces while Clow and Victoria Spadafora both had three. Laura Kennedy led the defense with 16 digs while Caroline Davis had 10. Mcintosh had eight digs and Haley Echelmeier had six.
CHELTENHAM 3, WISSAHICKON 0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-14)

NORTH PENN 3, CHRISTOPHER DOCK 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-14)
Isabelle Kerr led the Maidens’ attack with 11 kills to go along with two aces. Devon Markus had four kills and four blocks. Stephanie Elechko contributed five kills, five aces and three blocks.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, ABINGTON 1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-14)
Abby Mummert led the Titans with 16 kills. Jax Babezki added seven solo blocks and 10 kills. Lauren Wise had three solo blocks and eight kills. Ally Horvath added five kills and one solo block. Jackie Haffey had four blocks and one kill. Setter Madi Conroy had 30 assists. Larissa Keer (four digs), Jess Berton (two digs), Heather Kobrzynski (one dig) and Cecilia Miller (three digs) also contributed defensively.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, NORRISTOWN 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-22)
The Hatters, minus a third of their team due to illness, still were able to sweep the Eagles.
“The entire team contributed to the win as they were able to experiment in different positions,” coach Kathy Tanner said.
Candyce Riley took on a new role as setter and dished out 22 assists. Lauren Laucella led the offense with nine kills. Riley added four and Laura Calvin, three kills. The team had 15 service aces with seven from Laucella, six from Riley and two from Anna Mitchell. Lauren Yanni served for 12 points. Caitlin Klotzbach led the defense with 11 digs, and Yanni added four.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-14)
Courtney Kauffman delivered 13 kills to lead the Patriots at the net. She also had five digs and two service aces. Lindsay Mcintosh had seven kills, four service aces and three digs. Haley Echelmeier had five kills and six digs. Defensively, Caroline Davis led the way with 10 digs. Victoria Spadafora had eight digs, and Laura Kennedy, seven.
CHELTENHAM 3, BISHOP MCDEVITT 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-14)
Madeling Parisi had 11 kills, four blocks and two digs, and Sabrina Casseus had seven kills and three blocks. Sally Ngo led the defense with 11 digs.
