MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Taylor University’s Jared Reed (Pennridge) placed 43rd with a time of 27:25 in Saturday’s Crossroads League Championships. Taylor finished fourth as a team.

Penn State Abington freshman Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) was named NEAC Runner of the Year. He crossed the line with a time of 27:45.23 for the 39th spot overall out of 287 runners at the ECAC Championships on Saturday. Sophomore Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) finished in 144th place with a time of 30:02.50, improving his time by 13 seconds from last year. The Nittany Lions finished 28th in the 43-team field.

Shippensburg senior Brian Quintrell (North Penn), in his first cross country 10K since his freshman year at East Carolina, crossed the finish line in 32:48 at Saturday’s NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships on the West Branch Course at Lock Haven University. It is a new PR for the distance by 3:04. Shippensburg finished fifth with 169 points, just missing out on qualifying as a team for the national championships.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington senior captain Megan O’Farrell (Bensalem) finished with a time of 29:19.44 in Saturday’s ECAC Championship on Saturday, shaving off more than four minutes from 2011.

Bloomsburg University’s Lauren Bond (North Penn) finished 54th with a time of 22:49 at the 2012 NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Lock Haven University on Saturday. Bloomsburg finished fifth as a team.

Lock Haven’s Laura Histand (Neshaminy) finished 68th with a time of 23:06.9 at the 2012 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships on Saturday. The Lady Eagles finished 15th overall.

FIELD HOCKEY
Albright junior Alyssa Tourdot (Wissahickon) received honorable mention All-Commonwealth Conference recognition. It is her second All-MAC honor after earning All-Freedom Conference status in 2011. In her first season with the Lions, Tourdot scored 16 goals, the second highest single season total in Albright history. She added eight assists for 40 points and scored five game winners. Tourdot had a hat trick in the second game of the season vs. DeSales, part of a run where she scored seven goals in three games. A transfer from Manhattanville, she immediately transformed a Lion offense that was shut out 12 times in 2011 and just once in 2012.

Senior Taylor McGarvey (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist in Cabrini’s 5-0 win over Keystone College on Thursday. The win vaulted the team into its fifth consecutive CSAC championship game. Cabrini fell to Gwynedd-Mercy 5-1 in Saturday’s title game. McGarvey was one of seven seniors who played their final collegiate game. As a group, the seven seniors have appeared in 394 games, scoring 165 points on 59 goals and 47 assists. During their years on the team, Cabrini has posted 44 wins, including a 25-5 CSAC mark.

Senior Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Rider’s 4-1 win over Quinnipiac in Friday’s Northeast Conference semifinal game. Rider defeated Monmouth 3-2 in Saturday’s title game. Schneider was named to the NEC All-Tournament team. Rider will travel to the University of Massachusetts on Tuesday to face the 19th-ranked Minutewomen for an NCAA play-in game. UMass defeated No. 16 Richmond 5-0 in Saturday’s Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship.

Schneider also was named to the NEC Second Team. The senior forward was second on the team with eight goals and six assists (22 points). She is eighth on Rider’s all-time scoring list with 106 points (35 goals, 36 assists).

Franklin & Marshall senior Maura Hennigan (Central Bucks West) has been selected to participate in the 2012 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior Game on Nov. 17 at William Smith College. Hennigan is one of 60 seniors chosen to represent their respective schools in the game. The NFHCA senior game is held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Division III Final Four. Hennigan, a midfielder, totaled four goals and two assists.

Casey McGowan (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in IUP’s 5-2 loss to second-seeded West Chester in the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament Saturday. Brittany Varacallo (Central Bucks South) had two saves in the second half in goal for IUP.

Messiah College sophomore Becky Ely (Council Rock North) received first team All-Commonwealth Conference recognition. The honor comes on the heels of a freshman season that saw Ely named Rookie of the Year. Ely helped lead a defensive unit that allowed just three goals in eight conference games. Ely added two goals to her list of accomplishments this season, one each in games against Stevenson and Alvernia.

Senior forward Gretchen Kempf (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in the University of Scranton’s 2-1 loss to Drew University in Saturday’s Landmark Conference semifinal match at Catholic University. It was Kempf’s eighth assist of the season, one shy of tying the single season school record set in 2006. Kempf finishes her career with 41 goals, fourth most in school history, and 18 assists, second most in school history and one shy of the record set in 1986-89. Kempf’s 100 career points are also the fourth most in school history.

Lebanon Valley senior midfielder Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) was named to the Commonwealth Conference first team. Vasey, who will graduate as a three-time all-CC honoree, led Lebanon Valley with 11 assists to go with four goals this season. Her 57 career goals ranks 10th all-time in NCAA Division III as she moved into the LVC all-time top five with 149 career points. Vasey also was named to the roster for the 2012 NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star Game, which will be played Nov. 17 at William Smith College as part of the NCAA Final Four weekend.

Villanova senior Moriah Allen (Neshaminy) earned a spot on the BIG EAST’s Honor Roll list for leading a Wildcat defense that limited Georgetown to eight shots and six penalty corners in Villanova’s 5-3 win.

Arcadia freshman Jennie Kamel (Central Bucks West) was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference first team. Senior Lynn Beatty (North Penn) received second team honors.

King’s College senior Megan Mundy (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the Freedom Conference all-conference first team. Mundy, who played midfield, has started 73 of 74 games she has played in during her career.

Drexel senior Amanda Fleischut (Central Bucks West) received first team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors. During a standout season, Fleischut contributed 10 goals, including three game winners. She also had six assists and 26 total points in regular season play. On Oct. 2, she received CAA Player of the Week award after scoring the game-winning goal in the 79th minute of play to help Drexel defeat No. 15 New Hampshire 3-2. The CB West alum ranks in seven of the league’s offensive categories, tying for fourth in game-winning goals and tying for sixth in goals. Prior to the season, she was named to the 2012 Preseason All-CAA Field Hockey Team. Fleischut also was selected to the 2009 CAA All-Rookie Team and the 2011 CAA All-First Team. Fleischut has been chosen to participate in the 2012 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Senior Game on Nov. 17 on the campus of Old Dominion University. She is among the nation’s top 38 field hockey seniors selected in NCAA Division I this year.

Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) recorded No. 2 Princeton’s lone save in the Tigers’ 7-0 win over Penn on Saturday. With the win, Princeton clinched the outright Ivy League title.

Sophomore Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Yale’s 2-1 win over Brown on Saturday.

Gwynedd-Mercy senior Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was voted to the 2012 CSAC Field Hockey All-Conference first team. It is her third all-league honor after an honorable mention pick in 2010 and a first team choice last year. This season, she spearheaded a defense that allowed just four goals in seven conference games. She also set personal highs with five goals and seven assists and six defensive saves. Gorenflo also was selected for the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the second year in a row.

Gwynedd-Mercy junior Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) was named to the 2012 CSAC Field Hockey All-Conference second team. She is a three-time all-conference selection this year. She has contributed eight goals and eight assists in 15 games.

Karidas converted a penalty stroke into a goal in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 5-1 win over Cabrini in Saturday’s Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship game. It is the Griffins second consecutive conference title. In Thursday’s 9-2 win over Marywood in the CSAC semifinal, Karidas contributed three goals and an assist. Gorenflo added a single goal.

La Salle senior Becca Chylack (Souderton) and junior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) were named to the All-Atlantic 10 second team. Chylack became the first Explorer in program history to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors four times in her career after receiving second team recognition for the third straight year. She was a first team all-conference pick as a freshman In 2012, Chylack scored five goals and assisted on another for 11 points. She finishes her career seventh on La Salle’s all-time points list with 65 and eighth on the goals list with 26.

Shoemaker led the Explorers with nine goals, good for seventh in the league, and 19 points to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors for the first time in her career. Her nine goals are the 11th most in a season in La Salle history. She scored three game-winning goals, which ranks fourth in the A-10. For her career, Shoemaker has scored 16 goals and dished out two assists for 34 points.

Bloomsburg's Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) was named to the 2012 All-PSAC Eastern Division second team. The CR South alum was recognized for her role in anchoring the Huskies' defense this season. She played in all 19 games and helped contribute to five team shutouts.

 

FOOTBALL
Senior Brandon McManus (North Penn) connected on a 34-yard field goal in Temple’s 45-17 loss to #12/10 Louisville on Saturday.

Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) caught 28-yard touchdown pass in No. 13 Bloomsburg’s 24-23 win over West Chester on Saturday. It was the final regular season home game for 17 BU seniors, including Dylan Manni (Bensalem) and Shaun Moore (North Penn).  Since the beginning of the 2009 season, the seniors have combined for 36 wins, including the 2010 PSAC Eastern Division title. For West Chester, Shawn Leo (Souderton) had two field goals in the first half, breaking the school’s all-time career field goal record.

Freshman kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) connected on a 20-yard field goal in Ursinus College’s 24-17 overtime loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday. Senior fullback Teddy Conrad (Central Bucks West) had 23 yards on eight carries.

Redshirt sophomore Brandon Gattelli (Bensalem) had three tackles for a loss and two sacks in East Stroudsburg’s 62-14 win over Millersville on Saturday. Gattelli has 7.5 sacks on the season. For Millersville, Myron Myles (Wissahickon) rushed for 61 yards. Jamie Thomas (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a team high 10 tackles while Lou Brown (Upper Dublin) had eight tackles and forced a fumble.
Pete Panichi (Upper Merion) caught a 39-yard screen pass for a touchdown in Lebanon Valley’s 34-19 win over King’s on Saturday.

Sophomore Craig Needhammer (North Penn) had a team-season high 127 yards with one touchdown on 19 carries in Lycoming’s 32-7 win over Stevenson on Saturday. For his performance, Needhammer earned his first career Middle Atlantic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week honors. It is the second time he surpassed 100 yards this season. He also added two catches for 14 yards and scored on a 22-yard run in the second quarter. Needhammer rushed for five first downs and posted four runs of 10 or more yards. He is second on the team in rushing with 138 carries for 569 yards and six touchdowns this season. He also ran for 101 yards in Lycoming’s win over Lebanon Valley.

Junior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) had a team high nine tackles – one for a loss – and also forced a fumble in No. 7 Shippensburg’s 61-9 win over Cheyney on Saturday. Junior defensive end Mike Schmidt (Harry S Truman) also forced a fumble that was picked up and returned 29 yards for a touchdown.

MEN’S SOCCER
Penn State Abington senior captain Matt Howard (Abington) and senior midfielder Julian Ward (Abington) were named to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) all-conference first team. Howard scored 10 goals and dished out an assist for 19 points. He leads the team in shots on goal with 26 this season. This is the second consecutive year Ward was named to the first team after recording 14 points this season from the midfield on six goals and two assists. The senior midfielder collected 11 goals and three assists for a combined total of 25 points in his career at Abington.

Penn State Abington advanced to the NEAC title game as a result of its 3-2 win over Penn State Harrisburg in a semifinal match on Saturday. Ward scored the game winner in the 68th minute of play. Howard also scored a goal.

Senior goalkeeper Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) finished with four saves in Shippensburg’s 2-0 loss to PSAC playoff-bound California (Pa.) last Saturday.

Eastern University junior midfielder Sean Bonner (North Penn) received first team All-Freedom Conference recognition, joining teammate Jair Saenz. “Jair and Sean were the top players on our team,” said Eagles’ head coach Mark Wagner. “Sean, he’s our glue that connects our lines. He has a great feel for the game and our team has rhythm because of him. You could tell that rhythm was disrupted after losing him late in the season.”

Bloomsburg’s Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 28. Miller scored three goals in Bloomsburg’s two victories. He led the Huskies with his third multi-goal game of the season against Goldey-Beacom by scoring two goals against the Lightning en route to a 4-1 win. Miller also tallied an assist. He then scored in the 13th minute against East Stroudsburg for his 10th goal of the season, giving Bloomsburg the early edge in an eventual 3-0 win. Miller’s final stats for the week were: five shots, four of them on goal, with three goals scored, one assist and two game-winning marks.

Widener sophomore forward Troy Czapor (Council Rock South) received honorable mention All-Commonwealth Conference.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Carly Yost (North Penn)
scored her fifth goal of the year in the final minute of West Chester’s 2-1 loss to Slippery Rock in a PSAC quarterfinal game.

Penn State senior Maddy Evans (Abington) earned second team All-Big 10 honors.  In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Iowa, Evans scored a goal.
Elizabethtown College’s Kaceyann Cerankowski (Neshaminy) received second team All-Commo
nwealth Conference recognition. A midfielder, Cerankowski shared the team lead with six goals and four assists, sharing the team lead in points. She is one of three players to lead the team with two game-winning goals. She has one of the highest shooting percentages on the team at .182 (six goals on 33 shots).

Wilkes University sophomore Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) was tabbed a first team All-Freedom Conference selection. Roberts recorded 19 points on a team best eight goals while also contributing three assists. Her consistency on the attack was a major factor in the success of the Lady Colonel program this season. Wilkes boasted an 11-4-3 record season record and set a new school record with 10 team shutouts.

Brooke Edwards (Harry S Truman) converted her shot during a shootout in Wilkes University’s 5-4 loss to Eastern University in the Freedom Division semifinal on Friday.

Penn State Abington sophomore goalkeeper Gabrielle Benedict (Central Bucks West) was named to the 2012 North Eastern Athletic Conference third team. Benedict started all 19 games in the net, playing over 1750 minutes with 107 saves (.817 save percentage) to earn five shutouts and 10 wins this year. Benedict is ranked in the top 10 in nine statistical categories in the league. Abington finished the season 11-6-2 overall, and the Nittany Lions were 8-3-1 in NEAC Conference play, finishing in the top six to advance to postseason play. The Lady Lions fell to SUNYIT in Wednesday’s quarterfinal round in penalty kicks.

Temple freshman Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was named to the Atlantic 10’s All-Rookie Team. Lafferty was a major contributor to Temple’s defensive unit, which held opponents scoreless in seven games and to 1.05 goals a game. The Upper Dublin alum started all 20 games for the Owls. She registered five shots and scored her first career goal against Rhode Island on Oct. 12.

Junior redshirt goalkeeper Gabrielle Pakhtigian (North Penn) recorded eight saves, including two diving blocks, in La Salle’s 2-1 overtime win over VCU in Sunday’s Atlantic 10 Championship game. The Explorers, who won the A-10 regular season title the past two seasons, will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

Pakhtigian was named to the Atlantic 10 all-conference first team. Her seven shutouts are good for a three-way tie for the second most in the A-10. She was named to the All-Academic team as well.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) had six digs in the opening set of Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Baptist Bible College on Saturday. She also had 36 assists. With the win, Cabrini advanced to its fifth consecutive Colonial Athletic Conference championship match.

Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) had 10 kills and one block in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-0 win over Haverford in Saturday’s Centennial Conference semifinals.

Leah Brown (William Tennent) logged a double-double with 18 assists and 23 digs in Penn State Abington’s 3-0 loss to Penn State Berks in the North Eastern Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday night. Ann Cheshinski (Neshaminy) had 23 digs.

Abbie Keating (Neshaminy) had 10 kills in Cairn University’s 3-1 win over Marywood in the Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday.

Junior middle blocker Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) had five kills and three blocks in Moravian College’s 3-2 loss to The Catholic University of America in Saturday’s Landmark Conference semifinals. In Thursday’s 3-0 quarterfinal win over Goucher, O’Hara had four blocks and five kills. Moravian is ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region for a third consecutive week in the third and final NCAA Division III Regional Rankings.

Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 10 kills and seven digs in the University of Connecticut’s 3-0 win over Syracuse on Sunday. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Marquette, Maugle had seven kills and nine digs.

Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had six blocks and eight kills in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to West Chester on Friday.
