Neshaminy’s record-setting postseason run ended Tuesday night. Cumberland Valley downed the Redskins 2-0 in a PIAA Class AAA semifinal at Hamburg High’s Seitzinger Stadium.

The Eagles will try to defend their state title when they face Peters Township Saturday afternoon at 4:00 in Hershey.

Neshaminy closed the season at 22-3 after making the deepest playoff run in school history.

“We broke our team record by going as far as we did,” said senior defender Sam O’ Donnell. “I was proud of us for making it this far.”

Molly Stanton gave Cumberland Valley a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. The goal came off a restart; Lisa Nanov put a corner kick in the center of the box and Stanton finished the play from there.

Nanov also set up her team’s second goal in the 44th minute by crossing a ball to Taylor Sneidman on the right side of the box; Sneidman put her shot inside the far post.

Neshaminy coach Rachel Clemens noted that Cumberland valley has earned the accolades they’ve received.

“They distribute the ball,” she said, “and their off-the-ball movement is just unreal. Every girl looks to get the ball back after they pass. They’re always in motion all over the field.”

Neshaminy’s only serious chance came on Megan Shafer’s free kick in the 21st minute, but Eagle keeper Cumberland Valley keeper Dani Shambaugh made the save.
