On Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, Wissahickon senior Laura Frankenfield signed a letter of intent to accept a lacrosse scholarship to Boston College after making a verbal commitment to BC in November of 2011.
Laura Frankenfield – Boston College (Lacrosse)
Major: Attending College of Arts & Sciences (undecided on major but possibly communications)
Final list of colleges: Boston College, Duke, Princeton, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins
Reasons for choosing Boston College: “I love the city itself. The first time I visited BC was the first time I visited Boston. Obviously, it’s an amazing city. I absolutely love the coaching staff, and the school itself is such a great school. It’s a program that’s really on the rise currently, and it’s something I want to be part of.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse? “I started thinking of it my freshman year, and in my sophomore year, I started taking visits. The summer before my junior year – June and July - it was just lacrosse the whole time. I took all my visits in September and October, and by November, I made my choice. It was a crazy couple of months.”
Former Wissahickon coach Jamie Donahue: “Laura’s an amazing athlete. She’s a fantastic role model for the rest of the community, and she’s a great example of how when someone works really hard they can reach their goals and dreams. She’s not just a lacrosse standout. She’s a standout in the classroom also.
“She’s a tenacious athlete. She never gives up. She’s a leader, and she will be able to lead throughout her life, whether she’s going to Boston or playing a leadership role in her career. She made lacrosse fun, and she made teaching fun. I’m really grateful to know Laura and Her family.”
Former Wissahickon coach Chelsea Rosiek: “She’s a great leader both in her high school and on the field. She’s a pleasure to coach. Her lax IQ is so high. She’s always thinking about what she’s about to do with the ball, how she can get her teammates the ball, and she’s such an unselfish player on the field. She’s such a leader both physically and vocally. She’s very bright, a wonderful kid, a wonderful family. She’s an attentive player and a very coachable kid. She’s really wonderful to watch and also wonderful to coach. I really enjoyed having her on the team last year, and I’m so happy that she got Honorable Mention All-American because I think she really deserved it.
“Her stick skills are some of the best in the league, and in terms of managing the ball and taking care of it, you always know Laura is going to take care of the ball and do the right thing with it. Also, her knowledge of the game is so immense, and she displays it on the field. She sees the field very well, and she is not only a threat to score but also a threat for the assist, which is what makes her a very complete player, and I think that’s why she’ll be very successful at Boston College.”
