MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore forward Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded his third straight double-double of the season in Penn State Abington’s 92-84 loss to Rosemont College on Tuesday night. The Hatboro alum put up 27 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead the Nittany Lions.

Senior guard Derek Brooks (North Penn) scored 12 points in Gettysburg’s 66-52 win over Muhlenberg College in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night.

CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 13 points in St. Joseph’s 75-56 win over Harvard on Tuesday night.

Villanova freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 19. In the first four games of his collegiate career, Arcidiacono averaged 16.3 PPG in helping the Wildcats win three of those contests. He scored 25 points in an 80-68 win over Marshall on Nov. 11, becoming the first Villanova freshman since Scottie Reynolds to score 25 or more points in a game. He also scored 18 points to help Villanova rally to defeat Purdue 89-81 in overtime. The Neshaminy grad leads the Wildcats in minutes played (135 – 33.8 mpg), assists (18) and scoring. In Villanova’s 75-57 loss to Columbia on Tuesday, Arcidiacono contributed 11 points and five rebounds in 38 minutes of action.

Justin Van Houten (Central Bucks East) scored 10 points and also had five rebounds in Waynesburg University’s 72-60 win over Penn State Altoona on Saturday.

Senior guard Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) scored a season high 18 points to help lift Temple to an 80-75 win over Delaware on Sunday afternoon. The Owls opened the season 3-0 for the first time since 2000-01.

Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) dished off a game-high six assists in No. 24 Randolph-Macon’s 59-49 loss to No. 19 St. Mary’s in the finale of the Hoopsville National Invitational last Sunday. Badger earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Kenny Gula (Quakertown) contributed 14 points, which included 4-of-6 from three-point range, in Moravian’s 79-65 win over Lebanon Valley on Sunday. In Tuesday’s 68-66 overtime win over DeSales, Gula scored 12 points. He also had four rebounds, three blocks and two steals. For DeSales, Michael Guldin (Pennridge) had five points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Cabrini freshman Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) was named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 18. Goodman was named to the all-tournament team at the Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Tip-Off Tournament after posting double-doubles in each of his first two career games. In the opener, the rookie tallied a game high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Cabrini to an 89-77 overtime win. Six of those points came in a decisive 90-second span in overtime that gave Cabrini its final lead of the game. Goodman followed that with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance in a 96-59 loss to No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan. Through the weekend’s games, Goodman connected on 17-of-27 from the floor, averaging 19 points and 10.5 rebounds.

Junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored a game-high 22 points, connecting on a career best 6-of-8 from three-point range, in No. 10 Cabrini’s 81-60 win over Widener University at the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Neumann University on Saturday. Goodman tallied his third double-double in four career games with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) grabbed eight points, including five offensive rebounds. In Wednesday night’s 80-66 win over Eastern, Rafferty led Cabrini with 19 points while Goodman added 17. The win extended the Cavaliers home win streak to 45 games, dating back to the home opener of the 2009-10 season.

Zach Thomas (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed eight points and eight rebounds in Neumann University’s 68-60 loss to Wesley on Tuesday night. Steve Warhola (Neshaminy) had three assists. In Saturday’s 52-51 loss to Ursinus, Warhola had three points and two assists while Thomas had six points and five rebounds.

Junior guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored 11 points in Ursinus College’s 52-51 win over Neumann University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 85-74 win over McDaniel in the Bears’ home opener, Krasna scored 14 points. He also had six assists. Freshman guard Mark Wonderling (Souderton) chipped in with 11 points.

Sophomore Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) notched career highs of 20 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench in Delaware Valley’s 109-67 win over Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

Pat Furst (Central Bucks West) contributed five points and five rebounds in Wilkes University’s 109-102 overtime loss to Lycoming on Sunday. In Tuesday’s 101-85 win over Baptist Bible College, Furst had seven points and three rebounds.

Junior guard AJ Picard (Souderton) scored 16 points and also had four rebounds and three assists in Goldey-Beacom’s 110-68 win over Puerto Rico-Mayaquez in the consolation game of the Nova Southeastern University Thanksgiving Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 87-85 loss to Nova Southeastern, the Souderton grad scored a career-high 24 points, connecting on 7-of-13 field goal attempts and burying all six of his free throw attempts.

Senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) connected on all eight of his free throw attempts and finished with 15 points in Philadelphia University’s 77-69 win over the University of Bridgeport on Saturday. Junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. In Tuesday’s 70-69 win over Kutztown, Christian finished with 12 points and a season high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. In last Sunday’s 92-87 loss to UMass-Lowell, Connolly scored 17 points while Christian added 10.

Ryan Connolly (Souderton) reached double figures for the first time in his collegiate career as he shot 4-of-5 from the floor for 11 points in Kutztown’s 70-69 loss to Philadelphia University.

Junior guard Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) connected on a three-pointer, his only trey of the game, with 30 seconds remaining to knot the score at 79 in Bloomsburg’s game against Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday. The Huskies went on to earn an 88-86 overtime win. Christmas finished with 16 points, extending his streak of consecutive games with a three-point basket to 13 games. He also grabbed eight rebounds after a career high nine in Bloomsburg’s game against Penn State Hazleton.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Shippensburg freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) was named the inaugural PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the week ending Nov. 19. The North Penn grad leads the Raiders in points and rebounds over the first three games of the season. Knauer was selected to the all-tournament team of the 2012 Wolf’s Bus Lines Classic after totaling 32 points and 14 rebounds in a pair of games. SU went 1-1 in the tournament, falling to Davis & Elkins but defeating West Liberty. Knauer began her collegiate career with an 11-point, seven rebound effort against Washington Adventist on Nov. 11. She had 10 points and four rebounds against Davis & Elkins before breaking out with a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double effort in the win over the Hilltoppers that included a 12-of-14 effort at the free thrown line.

Knauer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with four points in Shippensburg’s 52-50 win over Hawaii-Hilo on the final day of the Oahu Classic at McKinley High School in Oahu, Hawaii, on Friday. In Thursday’s 82-57 win over BYU-Hawaii, Knauer had seven points and seven rebounds.

Sophomore Jessica Schmidt (Abington) scored 16 points and also was the leading rebounder with 11 in Penn State Abington’s 79-58 loss to Rosemont College on Tuesday night. It was the first double-double of the season for Schmidt.

Senior guard Ashley Rosario (Harry S Truman ) contributed nine points, three rebounds and two assists in Goldey-Beacom’s 65-61 loss to the University of the Sciences on Tuesday.

Junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored 15 points and also had three steals in Cabrini’s 69-49 win over Eastern on Tuesday.

Sam Simononis (Pennridge) contributed seven points, four rebounds and three assists in Vermont’s 64-61 loss to North Florida on Saturday.

Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) had a team high eight rebounds, which included six offensive boards, in Princeton’s 65-52 loss to No. 19 UCLA on Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif. She also scored six points, made four steals and dished out three assists. In Friday’s 72-68 win over UC Riverside, Wheatley connected on 6-of-7 shots from the field and scored 13 points.  In Tuesday’s 88-42 win over Rider, Wheatley had six points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and one blocked shot.

Sophomore center Emily Leer (Abington) scored nine points in Villanova’s 78-38 win over Bloomsburg in an exhibition game on Monday.

Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) contributed six points, two assists and two rebounds in Haverford’s 58-39 win over Johns Hopkins on Tuesday night.

Ginny Edwards (Central Bucks South) pulled down six rebounds in Wilkes University’s 50-40 win over Marywood on Tuesday night.

Freshman forward Tori Steinberg (Central Bucks South) scored nine points in Ursinus College’s 85-38 win over PSU-Harrisburg in the title game of the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament last Sunday.

FIELD HOCKEY
University of Albany senior Jessica Longstreth (Council Rock North) was named to the National Field Coaches Association Division 1 All-American Second Team. Longstreth led the conference in assists this season with 17 and was fifth in the country in assists per game (.81). A graduate student, Longstreth was named America East Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks this season as she helped Albany capture its third America East Conference Championship in five years. The midfielder was a unanimous First Team All-Conference selection. No. 17 Albany saw its season end when it fell to No. 3 Penn State 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

University of Scranton senior Gretchen Kempf (Central Bucks South) was named to the 2012 Landmark Conference Fall All-Academic Team, which honors the top two male and female student-athletes from the conference’s eight institutions. Kempf, an occupational therapy major, was named the 2012 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and 2011 Offensive Player of the Year. She was a two-time first team all-Landmark selection, a second team selection in 2009 and a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient. Kempf also is a two-time NFHCA all-South Atlantic Region second team selection (2011, 2012). She finished her career fourth all-time in Scranton history in total points (100) and goals scored (41) and second in assists (18).

Franklin & Marshall senior Maura Hennigan (Central Bucks West) was named to the Synapse Sports All-America first team. It is the second straight year she has earned Synapse Sports All-America honors after being a third team selection in 2011. The senior midfielder was a force in the middle of the field for the Diplomats, claiming Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Year, All-CC First Team and NFHCA All-Region accolades. A four-year starter, Hennigan will go down as one of the best players to wear an F&M uniform. She tallied four goals and two assists this fall for career totals of eight goals and 13 assists. The Diplomats closed out the year with a school record 18 wins, including a stretch of 18 straight victories. They won their first ever CC championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.

Princeton junior Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) earned a spot on the NCAA Division 1 Field Hockey All-Tournament team after the Tigers defeated No. 1 North Carolina 3-2 last Sunday to capture Princeton’s first ever NCAA Division 1 National Championship. Maida recorded six saves in the title game.

 

FOOTBALL
Senior placekicker Brandon McManus (North Penn) connected on a 47-yard field goal on the opening drive of Temple’s 38-20 loss to Syracuse on Friday. McManus ends his career with a school record 338 points.

Junior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) had 2.5 sacks in No. 15 Shippensburg’s  37-14 loss to No. 2 Winston-Salem State in Saturday’s second round of the 2012 NCAA Division II Football Championships. Metz closes out the season with a school record 11.5 sacks, breaking the previous record of 10 that was shared by three players. The Raiders closed out the season with an 11-2 record, breaking 57 school records and finishing with the second most wins in school history.

MEN’S SOCCER
Bloomsburg junior Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) was named to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region men’s soccer team. He was a second team selection as a midfielder. The award is the second postseason honor for Miller, who was a second team All-PSAC performer for the first time in his career. From his midfield position, Miller led the Huskies in scoring after connecting for a career high 10 goals in 16 games. He was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week for his three goals and pair of assists in the final week of the regular season. Miller tallied four assists on the year, good for second on the team. He moved into ninth on the BU all-time assists list with 12. He had three multi-goal games, including a two-goal, two-assist performance in Bloomsburg’s 5-1 win over Chestnut Hill.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Senior Maddy Evans (Abington) connected on a penalty kick in Penn State’s 3-2 win in PKs over Michigan last Sunday, propelling the Nittany Lions in the NCAA Division 1 Tournament’s elite eight. On Friday night, Penn State defeated Duke 1-0 to earn its fourth ever Women’s College Cup appearance and first appearance since 2005.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Jen Ikeda (North Penn)
was part of Lebanon Valley’s 200 free relay that broke the program record with a second place time of 1:58.08 in Lebanon Valley’s 117-88 win over Elizabethtown on Thursday night.

Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of Elizabethtown’s winning 200 free relay team in the Blue Jays 117-88 loss to Lebanon Valley on Tuesday night.

WRESTLING
Matt Rappo (Council Rock South)
dominated his opponent from the start at 141, getting five takedowns and a two-point near fall to lead 12-4 after one period in Bloomsburg’s 31-10 win over Princeton on Saturday. He went on to a 21-5 win by a tech fall. In last Sunday’s Keystone Classic at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Rappo posted a mark of 1-2 in the 141-pound weight class. He earned a tech fall over Matt Dorf of American. The Huskies finished fourth as a team.
