Plymouth Whitemarsh Girls' Basketball Preview

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Dan Dougherty (1st year)

Assistant coaches:  T.J. Delucia, Andrew Strothers, Todd Rose

Last year’s record:  4-8 SOL, 9-14 overall, lost in first round of district playoffs to Cheltenham

Notable losses:  Erin Martin (IUP), Gabby Schumacher

Key returners:  Simone Jacques (Sr., Guard); Maya Thomas (Sr., Guard); Laurie Givnish (Sr., Guard); Kayla Wisniewski (Sr., Forward); Nikki Casey (Sr., Forward); Rachel Konowal (Jr., Guard)

Others to watch:  Alynna Williams (Soph., Guard); Chrissie Mesunas (Jr., Guard); Cara Sweeney (Soph., Forward); Maude Orler (Jr., Forward)

Strengths:  Team depth – we will be able to go nine or 10 deep every game. Starting five seniors have been playing together for years.

Question marks:  Most bench players lack varsity game experience. Lack overall team height.

Outlook:  Walking in as a first-year head coach, I could not have asked for a better situation. We are very lucky to have five seniors that have been playing together for three-plus years. We are very excited for our league play this year. There have been a lot of changes due to coaching changes and the graduation of many first team all-league standouts. We really feel like the league is up for grabs, and we believe we can compete with anybody.

Games to watch:
12/7 vs. Methacton
1/4  vs. Upper Merion
1/7 vs. Norristown
1/11 vs. Upper Dublin
1/12 vs. Central Bucks East
