MEN’S BASKETBALL
Temple senior guard Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 2. It is the first weekly honor of the year for Wyatt and the second Big 5 Player of the Week citation of his career. Wyatt averaged 17.0 points and 3.0 assists while leading the Owls to two wins on the week. The Norristown grad started the week with an eight-point, three-assist effort in Temple’s 54-39 win at Buffalo. He followed that with a season-best 26-point outburst in a 70-62 win over Wagner. He shot 48 percent from the field (12-for-25) and 50 percent from three-point range (5-of-10) in helping Temple to its first 5-0 start since the 1987-88 season. On the season, Wyatt is averaging 15.6 points per game, good for second on the team, and 5.0 assists per game, tops on the squad and third in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Wyatt scored six points and contributed three assists in Temple’s 90-67 loss to No. 2 Duke on Saturday. Teammate Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) added six points off the bench. The loss was the first of the season for the Owls (6-1). In Wednesday’s 76-61 win over Villanova, Wyatt had 13 points and four assists. It was the Owls’ first win on the Main Line since 1990.
Freshman Arron Goodman (Council Rock South) scored 13 points in Cabrini’s 77-70 win at Baptist Bible College on Saturday. Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) added six points and five rebounds. In Cabrini’s 66-60 loss to Immaculata on Wednesday, junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) led the Cavaliers with 13 points while Goodman recorded his sixth career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. The loss was the first since March 8, 2009, for Cabrini on its home court.
Senior guard Joe Renzi (Abington) set new career highs of eight assists and four steals in Eliabethtown’s 88-71 loss to Lycoming on Wednesday.
Junior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) contributed nine points and five rebounds in Moravian’s 69-58 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday.
Junior CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots in St. Joseph’s 67-55 win over Coppin State on Wednesday. The former PW star converted 8-of-11 from the foul line.
Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a team high 19 points and also pulled down 19 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 96-66 win over Penn State Lehigh on Saturday. In Penn State Abington’s 90-79 win over York College on Wednesday,
Marvin collected a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored 12 points in Villanova’s 68-55 win over Penn on Saturday. In Thursday’s 76-61 loss to Temple, Arcidiacono had nine points.
Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 13 points in Randolph-Macon’s 86-72 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday.
Sophomore Michael Guldin (Pennridge) scored a career-high 18 points in DeSales 76-66 upset of 12th-ranked Catholic University in non-conference action on Wednesday night. The Pennridge grad connected on 6-of-8 shots, which included a pair of big three-pointers midway through the second half.
Senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 67-58 win over Nyack on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 65-62 loss to Holy Family, junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) contributed 10 points.
Chris Davis (Norristown) scored 11 points in Alvernia’s 75-66 loss to Stevenson University on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 83-64 loss to Lebanon Valley, Davis had five points and four assists.
Junior guard AJ Picard (Souderton) scored 22 points and matched a season high with seven rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 76-62 win over Caldwell on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 60-48 loss to Millersville, Picard scored nine points and moved into 13th place on the Lightning’s all-time scoring list. After Wednesday’s game, he had 602 career points.
Junior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored 11 points in Ursinus College’s 80-75 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 74-65 win over Haverford, Krasna scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds. In Monday’s 81-76 loss to Moravian, Krasna scored a team-high 27 points.
Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 20 points and handed out six assists in East Stroudsburg’s 94-91 win over Cheyney in PSAC basketball on Saturday. The PW grad hit for 20 points for the seventh time in 38 career games and the second time this season. He had 18 of his 20 points in the first half, including three three-pointers and two other three-point plays, knocking down all three free throws after being fouled on a long distance attempt. In last Sunday’s 52-46 win over Gannon, Grant contributed 18 points.
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored 12 points and extended his streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer to 16 in Bloomsburg’s 62-49 loss to Millersville on Saturday.
Ryan Connolly (Souderton) had five points and three steals in Kutztown’s 68-63 win over Shippensburg in the team’s PSAC East opener on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior guard Ashley Rosario (Harry S Truman) scored a season-high 17 points off the bench in Goldey-Beacom’s 55-53 win over Caldwell on Saturday. The Truman alum made 7-of-8 field goal attempts and 3-of-4 free throw attempts. She also added four rebounds. In Goldey-Beacom’s 66-60 win over Georgian Court, Rosario contributed seven points.
Junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) tied a career high with five made three pointers en route to a game high 21 points in Cabrini College’s 74-46 win at Baptist Bible College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-52 win over Immaculata, Sandone scored 11 points.
Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds in Lock Haven’s 69-55 loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 87-82 loss to Shippensburg, Ryan had 17 points and 16 rebounds. Ryan has netted double-digit points in all but two games this season.
Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 12 points in Neumann University’s 87-68 loss to Rosemont College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 89-75 loss to Gwynedd Mercy, she had nine points. In Monday’s 92-35 win over Cedar Crest College, Hinde had nine points and two steals.
Shippensburg freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the week ending Dec. 2 after averaging 16 points and 13.5 rebounds in a pair of PSAC wins for the Raiders. It is the second time this season Knauer has received that honor. Knauer posted 
double-doubles in an 82-65 road win at Clarion and an 87-82 road win at Lock Haven that ran SU’s record to 6-1 (2-0 PSAC) – its best start since 2008-09. It is the first time that the Raiders have beaten PSAC opponents in back-to-back games and also scored 80 or more points in both of the wins since the 2001 PSAC Tournament. Last Saturday at Clarion, Knauer had 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, shooting 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Last Sunday at Lock Haven, Knauer scored 20 points (her second 20-point effort of the season) to go along with 13 rebounds (including five offensive boards) while shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Through seven games, Knauer had five double-digit scoring efforts and three double-doubles. She is averaging 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1 percent.
Knauer, despite being in foul trouble, notched career highs with 24 points and 18 rebounds in Saturday’s 69-62 loss to Kutztown. Knauer had 11 points and eight rebounds by halftime, and she had six points and seven rebounds, including three offensive boards, in the final 4:19 of play en route to her fourth double-double of the season. Knauer’s 18 rebounds are the most by a Raider since Monae Baker grabbed 18 in Shippensburg’s 2010-11 season opener at Shepherd.
Sophomore Natasha Matthews (Norristown) scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds in Gwynedd Mercy’s 66-65 win over Keystone on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 89-75 win over Neumann University, Matthews recorded a double-double, totaling 19 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) scored 14 points while teammate Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin) added 11. Fuery also had four assists.
Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored eight points in Haverford’s 63-45 win over Ursinus on Thursday night.
Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) contributed eight points and three rebounds in Princeton’s 59-58 loss to Delaware on Sunday. In Wednesday’s 84-54 win over Hofstra, the CR South alum had seven points and six rebounds.. In last Sunday’s 93-46 win over UMBC, Wheatley had eight points and three assists.
Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) had six points and a team high five rebounds in 25th-ranked Bloomsburg’s 62-55 loss to Millersville on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 84-59 win over 15th-ranked Edinboro, Derr scored a team high 19 points.
Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) contributed 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals in Millersville’s 83-65 win over Clarion last Sunday.
Tiffany Johnson (Cheltenham) contributed five assists in West Chester’s 94-65 loss to No. 19 IUP last Sunday.
Emily Leer (Abington) contributed eight points and seven rebounds off the bench in Villanova’s 55-51 win over St. Joseph’s on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 49-44 win over La Salle, Leer scored a career-high 18 points and tied a career-high with seven rebounds. Leer was 8-of-10 from the field (3-of-4 from three-point range) while the rest of the team was 10-of-41 from the floor.
Junior guard Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) pulled down a season-best 10 rebounds to go along with five assists in No. 20 St. Thomas University’s 87-49 win over Trinity Baptist on Saturday.
Sophomore Jessica Schmidt (Abington) posted 13 points and nine rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 64-58 win over Cedar Crest College on Saturday.
Ginny Edwards (Central Bucks South) pulled down a team high 10 rebounds to go along with six points in Wilkes University’s 82-40 win over Penn State Hazleton on Monday. In Wednesday’s 75-67 win over No. 21 University of Scranton, Edwards had eight points and six rebounds. In Saturday’s 62-50 win over Susquehanna, Edwards had a team high 10 rebounds to go along with two blocked shots.
Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) pulled down five rebounds in American University’s 57-54 win over George Washington Saturday. In Wednesday’s 70-54 win over Coppin State, Kiely had seven rebounds.
Freshman forward Tori Steinberg (Central Bucks South) scored five points in Ursinus College’s 63-45 loss to Haverford on Thursday.
FOOTBALL
Temple senior placekicker/punter Brandon McManus (North Penn) was named the BIG EAST’s top punter. Named to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, McManus ended his collegiate career as Temple’s career leader in scoring (338), punting average (45.4), field goals made (60) and field goals attempted (83). In 2012, he set the season record for field goal accuracy (82.4) and set game records at Army for extra points made (9) and attempted (9). McManus played in every game of his collegiate career. In 2012, McManus led the Owls in scoring (74) and went 32-of-33 in PAT. He punted 54 times for 2,433 yards (45.1 average), including a career-long 68-yard punt against Rutgers and 15 punts longer than 50 yards.
Syracuse junior Justin Pugh (Council Rock South) was named to the All-BIG EAST first team at offensive tackle. It is his third straight all-conference selection and his second first team nod. After missing the first four games of the year with an injury, he returned to the Syracuse lineup to anchor an offensive line that paved the way for 1,000-yard rusher Jerome Smith, In addition, the Orange average 171.8 yards per game on the ground, the team’s best rushing output since 2004. Pugh and the rest of the SU front five have allowed just 14 sacks this season or one every 32.1 pass attempts. The 6-5, 298-pound lineman has not made a decision whether to use his fifth year of eligibility or enter the NFL Draft. Pugh is projected to be a high draft choice with one scouting service rating him fifth out of 160 offensive tackles. WOMEN’S SOCCER
La Salle redshirt junior Gabrielle Pakhtigian (North Penn) received CoSIDA Academic All-American first team honors while teammate Renee Washington earned third team recognition. It is the first time any women’s soccer player in La Salle history has been recognized with this honor, and the Explorers are one of four programs with multiple student-athletes honored and are the only Atlantic 10 institution with representation on the first team. In addition to maintaining a 3.94 GPA as a nursing major, Pakhtigian set the school single season win record for goalies this season with 17 and earned second all-time for single season goals-against average (0.73). Additionally, the redshirt junior is second in career wins (32) and shutouts (16.5) all-time.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Sophomore TJ Guminski (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:40.15 in Lycoming’s 155-105 win over Messiah College on Saturday.
Jeremy Frey (Central Bucks East) clocked a career best 55:73 in the 100 butterfly at Bloomsburg’s 137-117 win over Albright on Saturday, earning a PSAC cut. At the 2012 Zippy Invitational last Sunday, Nick Ortlieb (North Penn) was part of the 400 free relay that posted an NCAA ‘B’ time and school record time of 3:06.06, breaking the previous record set in 2006. Junior Brendan Malone (Hatboro-Horsham) qualified for PSAC’s in the 1650 free, posting a time of 17:31.00. Junior Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) qualified third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.87 to earn a spot in the championship round. He is the current record holder in the event and finished fourth in the finals in 1:54.79. Sophomore Matt Ortlieb (North Penn) qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.82. He won the ‘C’ final in 2:04.78, a .10 second margin of victory. Frey moved into the ‘C’ finals in the 200 back with a time of 2:03.62. Nick Ortlieb finished second in the ‘C’ final in the 100 free, posting a season best time of 48.32. Bloomsburg is ranked 21st in the latest Endless Polls Top 25 published by CollegeSwimming.com.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of the winning 200 free relay in Elizabethtown’s 107-97 loss to York on Saturday, posting its second quickest time of the season at 1:47.10.
Penn State’s Paige Whitmire (Upper Dublin) had an NCAA B cut showing in the 100 freestyle at last weekend’s Georgia Fall Invitational with a time of 50.33. Her NCAA provisional mark came in the prelims, however, when she swam a near career best 49.33. She also was part of the 400 free relay that claimed the team’s first relay provisional mark of the season. The team touched the wall in fourth place with a time of 3:17.83, nearly claiming the squad’s first automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Championships.
The College of New Jersey freshman Sarah Richards (Central Bucks East) placed third in the 50 free with a time of 54.11 in TCNJ’s 154-108 win over Division II opponent Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. TCNJ (4-0) remained perfect on the season. Last Saturday, Richards finished third in the 1650 free at TCNJ’s annual invitational, posting a time of 19:14.05.
Freshman Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of Shippensburg’s winning 400 free relay squad that touched the wall in 3:31.04 – a NCAA ‘B’ cut – in last Saturday’s 2012 Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College. Meier finished seventh in the 100 free, posting a PSAC qualifying time of 53.65. Teammate Alayna Ryan (Abington) finished 30th with a time of 56.75 while Devon Perugini (Neshaminy) finished 35th with a time of 57.51.
Sophomore Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) won the 200 free with a time of 2:03.36 in Ursinus College’s 108-97 loss to Swarthmore on Saturday.
Julia DeVincent (Upper Dublin) was part of Bloomsburg’s 400 free relay team that posted an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 3:33.72 at the 2012 Zippy Invitational last Sunday. The relay finished 10th overall. Freshman Alex Wheatley (Upper Dublin) swam the sixth fastest time in BU history in the 200 back (2:09.89) in last Sunday’s preliminary round. The Huskies finished ninth in the team standings.
Madeline Barlow (Pennsbury) achieved a PSAC cut in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:11.35 in Bloomsburg’s 147-104 win over Albright on Saturday.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
La Salle senior Nick Crits (Wissahickon) has been named Atlantic 10 Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week for the week ending Dec. 3. Crits placed first in the 3000M race at the Jack Pyrah Invitational last Saturday, clocking an 8:21.76 in the opening indoor meet of the season. The senior finished nearly 28 seconds ahead of the second place runner and missed the meet record time by less than four seconds.
Freshman Drew Magaha (Upper Moreland) posted his first victory in his University of Pennsylvania debut as Penn opened its 2012-13 campaign at the Lehigh Valley Invitational on Friday night inside Rauch Fieldhouse. Magaha claimed the title in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:32.74.
WRESTLING
Shippensburg junior John Lindquist (Neshaminy) earned a 19-6 major decision over Gannon’s Casey Pace at 157 at the 2012 PSAC Championships. Lindquist was 1-2 at the meet.
Ursinus College sophomore Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) finished second overall in the two-day Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College last weekend. It was the highest place finisher for the Bears. Jasinski began the match with a pin over Dominick Ardo of Wilkes at 2:48, then scored a major decision over Kalann Washington of Messiah by a 10-2 score. In the semifinals, he defeated Logan Yox of McDaniel by an 11-2 major decision before dropping a 6-2 decision to Troy Sterling of Cortland.
Bloomsburg’s Matt Rappo (Council Rock South) finished fourth at 141 at the 2012 PSAC Championships on Saturday.
