COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 61, WILLIAM TENNENT 55 (2 OT)
The Indians opened up a 26-18 halftime lead, but the Panthers refused to go away, responding with a 16-4 third quarter to go on top 34-30. The Indians still looked as though they were going to win it in regulation but were extended to OT after the Panthers knotted the score with a desperation trey at the buzzer.
“We were up eight at halftime, and I said to the girls, ‘We’re up eight and you had 12 turnovers in the first quarter,” coach Lou Palkovics said. “I’ll give Tennent credit, but of the 12, maybe they forced seven of them.”
The first overtime could not determine a winner as both teams scored 10 points, but the Indians seized control in the second OT, outscoring the Panthers 10-4 to earn the important win.
“I give Tennent a lot of credit,” Palkovics said. “They pressured us well. Allison Chatburn played great.
“What really hurt them in the first and second overtimes – they lost some of their leaders (to fouls). (Angie) Pomponio and (Nikki) Alden fouled out, and we had three girls with four fouls in the two overtimes.”
The Indians received big contributions from numerous players. Michaela Finneyfrock scored a team-high 19 points and also had eight steals and one block.
“People scout Michaela and say, ‘She has to take it to the basket,’ but she hit two or three jumpers just inside the three-point line tonight,” Palkovics said. “She was a jayvee player last year.”
Jessica Gerber added 14 points, three steals and four assists, and Tara Garfield scored 11 points.
“Tara hit big shots tonight, and this was a girl that didn’t play much over the weekend,” Palkovics said. “Tennent stayed in that one-three-one, and I stayed with her more because I knew I needed a shooter on the court. She can shoot it.”
Krista Campbell had six points and nine rebounds, and Madison Attanasio had nine points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists for the Indians.
“I’m feeling very comfortable going nine or 10 deep,” Palkovics said. “I have to admit I never really felt comfortable going that deep.
“I think tonight too many times we had it locked up and we gave it away, but give them credit – they played well, they played well defensively.”
For the Panthers, Chatburn had 18 points, and Nikki Alden added 15.
The Indians are 2-1 on the season (1-0 SOL), and the Panthers also are 2-1 (0-1 SOL).
ABINGTON 42, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 37
The Ghosts – on the heels of a 30-point loss to Central Bucks South on Monday – regrouped to upset the defending conference champion Golden Hawks.
“The game was typical of this team,” coach Dan Marsh said. “We went up 21-8 in the first quarter, and we didn’t score a point in the second quarter. It was 21-21 at halftime.
“It’s just going to be that way, but I keep looking to the future, and I’m happy because they work hard. They make mistakes, but they persevered tonight and won a tough one.”
Michael Harris posted a double-double for the Ghosts with 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots while freshman Sammy Lochner added a team-high 11 points and Deja Rawls had eight points. Gabby Nolan scored seven points, and Leah Simmons had six.
“It was a complete team effort,” Marsh said. “I thought we could match up with them because they’re guard strong, and I really think we’re guard strong, even though we’re young.
“Especially defensively, I thought Sammy Lochner and Deja Rawls could match up with Alexis Hofstaedter and number 11 (Courtney Brown), and it worked out.”
The Golden Hawks, who were without Taylor Dillon (illness), were led by the 13-point effort Cara Barlow while Hofstaedter added nine points and Brown, eight points.
“They took a one-point lead with about a minute and a half to go, and I wasn’t happy,” Marsh said. “But we got them to turn it over and got the ball back.
“Michael Harris hit two huge free throws to give us the lead, and they didn’t score again after that.
“They did some halfcourt traps and some presses, which we handled much better this time. We passed the ball, and we didn’t try to dribble through it like we did against CB South. We could have rolled over a couple of times when they took the lead late, but they just kept battling and persevering. I love this team.”
While the Golden Hawks are 2-2 on the young season (0-1 SOL), the Ghosts improved to 3-2 (1-0 SOL).
NESHAMINY 59, HARRY S TRUMAN 37
Lori Paulits had a monster game for the Redskins, exploding for 30 points. Megan Schafer contributed seven while Mullen added six. Shappelle Brewton led the Tigers with 12 points. The Redskins are 2-0 on the young season (1-0 SOL) while the Tigers fell to 2-3 overall (0-1 SOL).
PENNSBURY 60, BENSALEM 33
Sajanna Bethea scored 23 points while Kaitlin Kelly added nine and Jae Jackson and Courtney Kruscavage both contributed eight to lead the Falcons to their fourth win in as many games.
The Falcons led 11-5 at the end of one quarter and upped that lead to 30-9 by halftime on their way to the decisive win. Ashida Cooper led the Owls (2-1, 0-1 SOL) with 15 points.
Continental Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 62, HATBORO-HORSHAM 42
The Patriots sprinted to an 18-3 lead at the end of one quarter and never looked back on their way to the decisive win. Four players finished the game in double figures, led by the 15-point effort of center Courtney Webster. Kelly Morgan added 14 points, and Karoline White contributed 11 with Lindsay Nier scoring 10 points.
For the Hatters, Tori Waddington – after being held scoreless in the first quarter - had a big night, scoring 15 points. Lauren Jester also finished the game in double figures with 10 points.
The Patriots are 2-1 on the season (1-0 SOL) while the Hatters fell to 1-3 overall (0-1 SOL).
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 82, QUAKERTOWN 41
Nicole Munger scored 16 points and also handed out five assists, and Peyton Traina added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists on a night that saw 14 players get into the scoring column. Kate McLaughlin had eight points, Kat Bahner contributed seven points, and Mackenzie Carroll, Maggie Gratz, Corrinne Godshall and Tillger each scored six for the Bucks. Godshall also had 10 rebounds.
West opened up an 18-5 lead at the end of one quarter and never looked back. Taylor Herd led the Panthers with 17 points while Kathryne Vetter and Ashlee Ruzicka both added eight points.
The Bucks improved to 3-1 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Panthers are 0-3 (0-1 SOL).

CHELTENHAM 41, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 35
The Lady Panthers got in the win column on Friday night. Seniors Sabrina Casseus (15 points) and Seraiah Robinson (nine points, 20 rebounds) led the way for Cheltenham.
“For a girl that’s really not that big, Seraiah was huge tonight,” coach Brendan Nolan said.
The Lady Panthers spotted the Spartans an 8-0 lead before they came to life to go on top 9-8 at the end of one quarter. At halftime, they had a four-point lead only to watch the Spartans rally to knot the score with four minutes remaining in regulation, but the Lady Panthers refused to fold, holding on for the win.
“They really needed this (win) for their confidence,” Nolan said. “We’re taking small steps. We have girls who have never played varsity basketball before this year at all except for Sabrina Casseus, who would get a couple minutes.
“We’re improving everywhere, but the truth is we have a long way to go. The girls really don’t know a whole lot about the game. We’re moving forward little by little. We have a freshman starting and two sophomores, so there’s a nice nucleus, but I value this year for our two seniors – Seraiah and Sabrina. This is their year, and I’m not looking past this year for them. I want this to be the best year I can make it for them.”
The Panthers are 1-3 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Spartans fell to 1-2 (0-1 SOL).
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 51, UPPER MORELAND 24
Sophomore guard Alynna Williams led a balanced PW attack with nine points while Chrissie Mesunas contributed eight points. Simone Jacques, Maya Thomas and Kayla Wisniewski each scored seven points.
The Colonials, who led 22-15 at the intermission, broke open the close game with a 16-0 scoring burst in the third quarter. Thomas sparked the defense with six steals. She also had six rebounds.
According to PW coach Daniel Dougherty, the Golden Bears, down a pair of starters due to injury, displayed tremendous toughness. Karli Lynch led the Bears with 11 points.
The Colonials are 1-2 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Golden Bears are 0-4 (0-1 SOL).
NORRISTOWN 49, UPPER MERION 37
Sydney Morse scored 16 points while teammate Briana Hedgepath added 15 to lead the visiting Eagles to the win.
“We controlled the tempo of the game,” Norristown coach Ashlee Harrison said. “Our defensive communication was good, and I was pleased with their effort. I’m so proud of them tonight.”
The Eagles (1-0 SOL) and Vikings (0-1 SOL) are both 2-1 overall.
UPPER DUBLIN 52, WISSAHICKON 26
The Flying Cardinals used a 20-0 run to turn a 29-20 lead into a 49-20 advantage. Regan Gallagher led Upper Dublin with 15 points, nine rebounds and six steals while teammate Curtrena Goff added 14 points.
The Flying Cardinals improved to 3-0 on the season (1-0 SOL) while the Trojans fell to 1-3 overall (0-1 SOL).
