COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 54, WILLIAM TENNENT 43
The Indians rebounded from their disappointing loss to Rock South on Tuesday to earn the big win over the Panthers. The Indians led 13-8 at the end of one quarter and stretched that lead to 28-21 by halftime. They outscored the Panthers 26-22 in the second half.
Jessica Gerber continued to excel for the Indians. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 23 points – 20 in the second half. She also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Katie Budny added seven points and Tara Garfield, six. Hailey Burns had six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots to go along with six points.
For the Panthers, Allison Chatburn had a team-high 18 points, and Nikki Alden added seven.
The Indians are 4-4 in SOL play (8-7 overall) while the Panthers fell to 2-6 in the conference (9-6 overall).

PENNSBURY 36, BENSALEM 31
The Falcons sprinted to a 14-7 lead at the end of one quarter only to watch the Owls make it a 24-22 game by the intermission. The two teams were deadlocked heading into the final quarter, and it was still anyone’s game down the stretch.
“It was a good game,” Bensalem coach Don Bogan said. “Pennsbury took control of the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.”
Sajanna Bethea led the Falcons with 14 points while Kaitlin Kelly added nine and Carly Covin, six points. For the Owls, Ashida Cooper scored 16 points, and Tyra Roberts added 11.
While the Owls fell to 3-5 in the league (7-6 overall), the Falcons improved to 6-1 in the league (10-3 overall).
NESHAMINY 60, HARRY S TRUMAN 18
The Redskins were led by the 17-point effort of senior Lori Paulits. McKenna Mullin added 12 points, and freshman points guard Morgan Goldenbaum added six points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Redskins, who were without point guard Megan Schafer.
The Redskins are 6-2 in league play (11-2 overall) while the Tigers fell to 0-8 in the league (4-11 overall).
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 53, ABINGTON 44 (Thursday, Jan. 17)
The Golden Hawks made the National Conference race a whole lot more interesting with their win over a Ghost squad that shared the top spot in the standings.
“We shot very well,” said coach Monica Stolic, whose team avenged a 42-37 loss to the Ghosts on Dec. 14. “I think the first time we played them at South, we had wide open shots, and we didn’t make them. We also didn’t have Taylor Dillon in that game, so they had to guard her tonight, but I just think we shot well. We hit six three’s tonight.”
Alexis Hofstaedter led the Golden Hawks with 17 points to go along with six rebounds while sophomore Cara Barlow added 11, which included three three-pointers. Dillon had 10 points, and Courtney Brown and Shannon Boyle both scored eight points. Boyle also had a team-high seven rebounds.
“She did a great job – she was hustling all over the place,” Stolic said of Boyle. “We got contributions from everybody that came in the game. We played very well today as a team for four quarters.”
The Hawks opened the game with an 8-0 run over the Ghosts but led by just one (26-25) at halftime. They won the game with a 16-7 third quarter burst. Defense also was a key as Stolic employed a box-and-one against sophomore point guard Deja Rawls, who torched the Hawks for 12 first-half points. Sophomore Cara Barlow was assigned the task of shadowing Rawls, who scored just two points in the second half.
“We also were getting outrebounded in the first half, and I thought we did a much better job in the third and fourth quarters,” Stolic said. “We even got a couple of offensive boards.
“We only had eight turnovers for the whole game. We took care of the basketball. I think the girls are playing together as a team and getting more consistent.”
For the Ghosts, Rawls scored a team-high 14 points while Gabby Nolan had eight. Sammy Lochner scored seven points and Bre Bermel, six points.
The Golden Hawks improved to 4-3 in league play (6-6 overall) while the Ghosts fell to 6-2 in the league (9-6 overall).
Continental Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 61, HATBORO-HORSHAM 21
The suddenly streaking Patriots opened up a 17-5 lead at the end of one quarter and upped that lead to a commanding 36-8 by halftime. A 21-7 third quarter made it a 57-15 game as the Patriots rolled to their sixth straight win, their eighth in nine games.
Three East players finished the game in double figures – Courtney Webster (16 points), Karoline White (13 points) and Lindsey Nier (10 points). Kyra Scaliti added seven points while Emily Sebesky and Morgan Kelly each contributed six points to a balanced Patriots’ attack. Heather Lutz and Lauren Jester led the Hatters with five points each.
The Patriots are 5-3 in league play (11-4 overall) while the Hatters fell to 1-7 in the league (2-11 overall).
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 63, QUAKERTOWN 32
Kat Bahner led the Bucks with a double-double, contributing 12 points and 12 rebounds. Mackenzie Carroll added 11 points while Corrinne Godshall had nine points. Nichole Munger (eight points) and Peyton Traina (six points) also contributed to the balanced attack.
The Bucks led 10-5 at the end of one quarter and took a 27-16 lead into halftime. They blew the game wide open with a 27-8 third quarter scoring explosion.
Senior Kathryne Vetter led the Panthers with 16 points.
While the Panthers fell to 2-6 in league play (3-10 overall), the Bucks upped their record to 8-0 in the league (11-2 overall).
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 51, PENNRIDGE 37
Senior Rachel Falkowski led the Titans with 15 points while Jamie Dugan and Christian Cianciarulo both added eight points. Senior center Lauren Mosher had six points and eight rebounds for the Titans, who led 26-19 at the intermission.
Jordan Rimmer and Jess Tennett led the Rams with nine points each while Shelby Schoonover and Devan Rimmer both added six points.
While the Rams fell to 0-8 in the league (1-12 overall), the Titans evened their record at 4-4 (9-6 overall).

American Conference
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 68, UPPER MORELAND 35
The Colonials picked up their second league win of the week on Friday. Rachel Konowal led a balanced attack with 14 points, which included an 8-for-10 effort at the foul line. Laurie Givnish, who buried a pair of three-pointers, added 12 points. Senior guard Maya Thomas led the defense with five steals to go along with eight points, four assists and six rebounds.
Upper Moreland was paced by the long-range shooting of Lindsay Walder, who had three three’s and finished with a game-high 15 points. Karli Lynch also had three three’s and scored 12 points.
PW led 15-4 at the end of one quarter and opened up a 37-12 lead at halftime on their way to the big win.
While the Golden Bears fell to 1-7 in league play (2-12 overall), the Colonials evened their league mark at 4-4 (5-8).
NORRISTOWN 52, UPPER MERION 26
The Eagles upped their winning streak to six games, winning for the eighth time in nine games on Friday. Norristown seized early control of the game, sprinting to a 17-5 lead at the end of one quarter and stretching that to 29-7 by halftime.
“We played very well,” coach Ashlee Harrison said.
Sydney Morse led the Eagles with 14 points and seven rebounds. Keifonna Ferguson added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Brianna Kennedy added seven points and Brianna Schools had six.
For the Vikings, Katherine Bailey and Regie Robinson both scored seven points. Kristina O’Sullivan had six.
While the Vikings fell to 4-4 in the league (9-4 overall), the Eagles upped their record to 7-1 in the league (10-3 overall).
CHELTENHAM 65, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 39
Amarri Truehart had herself a career night on Friday.
The sophomore point guard was a near-perfect 12-for-16 from the field. She also had four assists and four steals in a stellar performance for the Lady Panthers who trailed 11-10 at the end of one quarter but outscored the Spartans 19-9 in the second to go on top 29-20 by the intermission. They closed out the game with a 36-19 second-half tear.
Also coming up big for the Lady Panthers was senior Sabrina Casseus (12 points, eight rebounds). Eve Mansell connected on a pair of free throws at the end of the game, giving the Mansell family (Harris, Patrick and Robert) 5,000 points at Cheltenham High School.
For the Spartans, Meghan Wheatley scored a team-high 20 points, and Maisey Bradley added nine points.
The Lady Panthers evened their league mark at 4-4 (5-9 overall) while the Spartans fell to 0-8 in the league (2-11 overall).
UPPER DUBLIN 27, WISSAHICKON 16 (Thursday, Jan. 17)
The Trojans’ game plan going into Thursday’s contest, according to coach Rodney Cline, was to limit the Flying Cardinals number of possessions and to slow them down in transition. For one half, it worked to perfection as the Trojans took an 8-6 lead into the intermission.
“We ran our offense with discipline, taking at least a minute or more off the clock with each possession,” said Cline.
The Flying Cardinals, who are allowing an average of 27.5 PPG, turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and outscored the Trojans 10-6 in the third quarter to go on top 16-12 heading into the final frame. They added to that lead in the fourth quarter and collected 16 steals in the half.
“They tried to speed the tempo up by pressing full court on made baskets and trying to trap out of a 3-2 zone,” Cline said of the Cardinals. “The game was there for the taking, but we just could not convert on the shots we put up.
“They were rolling off the rim, and the 50-50 balls kept bouncing in their arms. Even though we lost on the scoreboard, we won in our effort and what we were trying to accomplish.”
Curtrena Goff, who was held scoreless in the first half, finished the game with seven points, six rebounds and five steals. Regan Gallagher had seven points, seven rebounds, six steals and three blocks, and Bri Spector had six points and four rebounds.
Dominique Earland led the Trojans with seven points.
Interestingly, the Flying Cardinals defeated Upper Merion by an identical 27-16 score on Tuesday. The Vikings implemented a similar game plan to try and slow down the high-flying Cards –
While the Trojans fell to 4-4 in the league (7-7 overall), the Flying Cardinals remain perfect in league play (8-0, 13-1 overall). The win was their 13th in a row after a season-opening loss.
